Kindred Journeys, two journeys, woven together across time and half a continent. One begins in the fifties, when a woman finds herself with babies born unexpectedly early as she travels west. With no money and no way to care adequately for them, she heads home with the help of kind truckers, chance encounters and the ability to fabricate a story on the spot. But as she has to fend off an attacker and elude the suspicion of kidnapping, she leaves them, one by one, with people who run into misfortune themselves. As soon as she can save money, she intends to go back for them, but a series of misfortunes and twists of fate delay her until it’s too late.
Another begins decades later, when a cop and a nurse meet in a class, and suspect they share more than an interest in writing. As evidence builds that they’re related, each makes unsettling discoveries about their own past. They start a search for a mother they never knew, finding more chapters than they could have imagined in the story of their life.
