Because Parks and Routh are the authors, I, Claire—whom this book is practically about—will be doing this blurb-y thing. Meet Yvonne, my wonderful mother, and Stephanie, my mom’s awesome childhood friend, who’ve known each other since they were kids—so, for about a trillion years—and have since grown up, gotten married, dated, done all the adult things like go to college and pay taxes, and now are living grown-up lives. This implies they’ve grown up. They have not— and they do weird stuff, like exposing infants to bordellos and hide in office attics.
There are some pretty crazy stories here that are certainly entertaining (the best ones are about me) as these two young women in their late 20’s go on their separate misadventures, occasionally meeting up like the Avengers for some big, epic, world-threatening event. (Helloooo, Russell Crowe!) Yvonne is a married attorney in the ‘burbs who quickly finds out that she is expecting. Stephanie, a city planner, enjoys the singles’ life, which is “interrupted” by a handsome stud named Pierce.
This is the collection of their separate journeys—from two very different lifestyles, about how positively nuts their respective day-to-day lives can be—captured in keystrokes sent back and forth over the Internet. These two women learn just how nuts planet Earth can be, and find a way to roll with the punches as they come. And there are a lot… Of punches. A. LOT! . (You’ll know what I mean.) Enjoy!
Yvonne Parks lives in Dallas with her husband, two girls, two dogs, and her long-suffering mom. Since it took about 16 years for Yvonne and Stephanie to get their acts together enough to finish this book, her girls have long since graduated from challenging toddlers to impossible teens (and that’s another book…or three–the authors are aiming to have them all done by the time they’re eligible for Social Security). Yvonne has graduated from ambivalence to the law to a genuine love of the practice, finding a career with a great firm in Dallas. If she had any free time, she would write more, read, travel, brush up on her Russian and Spanish, and take up gardening. But that’s just not going to happen any time soon (and plants everywhere are breathing sighs of relief). About the best she can manage between the office, the laundry, her kids’ flute lessons and drivers’ ed classes is listening to audio books (BEST INVENTION EVER!) She hopes you take pleasure in reading about all the bone-headed things she’s done in this journey into motherhood. If nothing else, you undoubtedly feel better about yourself now!
Stephanie Duprie Routh, full of curiosity and wanderlust, is a gypsy soul that uses the world as a muse, travels with her husband and three kids in search of adventure, culture, and food! When not on the far side of the planet, she resides in Austin with the same motley crew and her trusty beagle Ranger Max. She enjoys gardening, beekeeping, yoga, and nourishing her inner foodie habits. Being a creative person, Stephanie uses her travels and her backyard, the strangers she’s met and her own family as springboards for her photography and her writing. Once, in a lifetime far behind at a corporate job, someone told her she was loquacious. In the present moment, (how’d you like those buzz words?!) Stephanie is more thrifty with her words and tries not to be wasteful– with anything–just as any self-respecting, tree-hugging, hippie should be.
