The saga of the Johnson family ( introduced in The Sky Between Two Worlds) continues past the Great Oil War of 2034. Kantak and Luanne Johnson develop superior robots to help the West recover from the damage of war. Luanne enthusiastically takes over the family robot business in Alaska after her father Kantak moves to Canada to serve in the newly-formed North American Parliament.
But Luanne, protected by a special robot named James, faces difficult times. Fast-money speculators play rough. So does James. Human workers fear the robots will take their jobs, and old quarrels between East and West reignite conflict, this time using robot armies.
The robots, learning from history and experience, conclude that humans cannot be dissuaded from greed and war. They take appropriate action.
Glen Books ( actual name ) grew up in small town Indiana. A scholarship took him to MIT where he majored in physics but spent much of his time on the debate team, competing against the likes of Harvard, Dartmouth and Holy Cross. Debating took him to Columbia for law and to Bell Telephone Laboratories in its days of glory.
