Interview With Author Eileen Anne

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I began writing poetry as a child. I remember typing verses on my grandfather’s desktop computer while my siblings and cousins were playing outside. My grandmother then framed my award-winning poems and hung them amidst the family photos.

Each time life got challenging for me, I turned to writing. My words connected me to myself in a way nothing else did. Writing gave voice to everything I held so deeply inside.

Few know I began in business school. Taking a required business-writing class, I had a rebel of a professor who went beyond teaching office memos and into the depths of composition.

Feeling a connection with my words, this professor greatly encouraged me, eventually poaching me from the business school into the arts. That’s when I started to realize her gift of writing, but it took me many years and occupations to come full circle.

Extraordinary Inner Light is my first book. Although I have been previously published in academic writing, and in a Chicken Soup Series.

I graduated cum laude from Villanova University as an English major with a focus in Writing & Rhetoric. I tried to funnel her business courses into a minor, but I was one lower-level mathematics course short.

I also attended the University of Galway in Ireland as a Connelly-Delouvrier Scholar. Many of poems are about my experience in Ireland and my Irish grandmother.

I went on to graduate summa cum laude with her master’s degree from Holy Family University, along with my masters plus from Pennsylvania State University and Gratz College.

I am grateful to all of my teachers, earth angels, and the poetry- my creative outlet that has beautifully weaved itself through my life- my lifeline, my voice, the way I make sense of my place in this world.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled “Extraordinary Inner Light.” It’s also my Instagram handle. Through all of my hardships, I found this beautiful light inside of myself. It always existed, though the world had dimmed it down. The more I worked through my journey, the more brightly this light shined.

Each of us has a bright light within ourselves. We all have an Extraordinary Inner Light.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I use my writing as a means of feeling. It’s always been really hard for me to feel emotion and to let myself cry. When I go through something difficult or start to work through trauma that I’ve held, I write. This writing allows me to release, in the same way others cry.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite poets are Mary Oliver, W.B. Yeats, and Chelsea Diane. They have each touched my heart with their words and brought me closer to myself.

What are you working on now?
I will always be writing.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m new to all of this, so I’m not sure!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The more you align with yourself, your heart, and your authenticity, the more others will connect with your work.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Always stay true to yourself. When you are authentically aligned and in your power, you are a force to be reckoned with.

What are you reading now?
Poetry by my sweet friends Maria Theresa Practico-Swanson and M. Rose.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll be writing more books – maybe a memoir.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Sport of Presidents: The History of US Presidents and Golf. I was inspired when I noticed how much you could tell about a president’s leadership style by their golf game.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I believe in “method research”: immersing myself in my topics by various means to collect ecologically valid data. I conduct experiments in the real world, by, for instance, taking a job to understand the realities of it. For instance, I worked as a true crime researcher for A Time to Kill for three seasons in order to understand the reality and ethics of the profession.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
John Kennedy Toole’s A Confederacy of Dunces, Richard Adams’ Watership Down, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles were big influences on me.

What are you working on now?
I am writing a nonfiction book that is being kept under wraps.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a Barrister-at-Law, married with an 11-year-old daughter, and I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I am also a trained actor and singer. I have one novel, The Flower Bed, published on 30 April 2024 by Echo Books: https://echobooks.com.au/our-books/the-flower-bed-15762/. I am writing my second novel, which I hope to publish by June 2025. I am also a mental survivor, having suffered from various mental health conditions for most of my life, and I am a passionate online advocate to normalise mental health.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my only published novel in The Flower Bed. My inspiration for writing The Flower Bed was my daughter, after I experienced a life changing physical health event at the end of 2015. In January 2016 I gave my then three-year-old daughter her plate of dinner for the night, and as I looked into her eyes, the plot for The Flower Bed suddenly popped into my mind. I immediately sat down at my laptop computer and commenced the manuscript, and the rest was history.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do not concentrate on just one fiction genre; instead, I blend genres within the plot’s context. The testimonials recorded on my publisher’s webpage for my book show that my writing style is highly regarded, and my admiration includes notable established authors.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have read so many fiction and non-fiction books during my lifetime it is difficult for me to say precisely there has been a particular author who has influenced me. In my final year of secondary school, I had to write a thesis about Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Mr Kesey’s writing engaged my mind to such a degree that I was awarded the top mark in my senior year for my thesis. I also love reading the poetry of the Romantic era poets, so perhaps I am influenced by those writers who do not follow traditional convention or styles.

What are you working on now?
I am writing my second novel, which will be in a different genre and plot from The Flower Bed. I am not a fan of sequels, whether in books or cinema/ stage productions. My second novel will blend genres again; however, without giving too much away, the central character’s life commences in more financially secure circumstances than the central character’s early life circumstances in The Flower Bed.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Every method or website is beneficial in promoting The Flower Bed. I promote my book on eight different websites or social media platforms, including Goodreads. If a person asks me about my occupation in life, I include the fact that I am a published author. Indeed, I remember one person who attended my home for sales purposes and ended up purchasing a copy of The Flower Bed on Amazon right in front of me as he was trying to sell me his products.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Believe in yourself, and do not give up on completing that first manuscript. Do not worry about grammar or spelling, as those issues are addressed in subsequent drafts of your manuscript—just make sure you get the entire story out of your head.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Michael Robotham recently gave me this simple but inspiring advice: “Keep finding time to write.”

What are you reading now?
I am just about to start reading Michael Robotham’s Storm Child, and it will be the first time I have read any of his books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will continue to promote The Flower Bed around the globe. It was my publisher’s top-selling book for the July to September 2024 quarter, and I have opened the doorway to the American. United Kingdom markets. I’m hoping to have my second novel ready to be published by June 2025; however, I am not going to hold myself to a particular date because I need to be satisfied with the manuscript before I approach any publisher.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That is a difficult question because by being stranded, I assume that may entail no temporal limitation. So, proceeding based on being stranded forever and without any intention of ranking these works, I would like to have the following books:

1. My copy of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.
2. The Penguin Book of English Verse.
3. The Heinemann publisher’s copy of F. Scot FitzGerald’s novels.
4. One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Well, I used to make up stories for my son at bedtime when he was a little, and one of those stories was “stuck.” I called it “The King Who Lost His Crown.” He would ask for it every night, saying, “Tell me the one about the monkey!” Spoiler alert: the story has a monkey in it. It took me 20 years, but I finally got it published and in print! By the way, although the story took 20 years, the song that I wrote to go with it took only six weeks! The song, appropriately named Little Bitty Monkey, was a pleasure to record!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My last book is called, “The King Who Lost His Crown,” and was inspired by trying to come up with new stories for my son at bedtime! (See background story in previous question).

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
N/A

What authors, or books have influenced you?
ooh, one of my favorite children’s authors is Dr. Seuss! And that goes for both myself as well as when I would read stories for my son when he was little. His stories are so timeless and kids love them! I also love his story about being rejected over two dozen times by traditional publishers, finally being accepted, and ending up being one of the best known children’s authors of all time. What an inspiring story!

What are you working on now?
Well, I have now published two children’s stories books based on stories I made up for my son when he was little, which was my main goal. The first story, “The Mother’s Day Rock,” was my favorite, and “The King Who Lost His Crown” was my son’s! I’ve also published a companion coloring book for The King Who Lost His Crown and written a song to accompany the story, available as a FREE SONG DOWNLOAD. For the future? I am considering writing a sequel to the story. (If you read the ending, you will see where I’m going with this!) That could also lead to another kids’ song, which could be a LOT of FUN!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Great question. I have not found a “best” method and I would like to explore this further in the coming months.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Join some good author Facebook groups in your genre for great advice on publishing options, illustrators, formatting, and promotion. It’s a start!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket(?)
Slow ‘n steady wins the race . . . . lol.

What are you reading now?
Oh, I like paranormal cozy mysteries. I read one book a week, every week.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Working out a promotional strategy. Contemplate continuing the series with another story + song.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmm. I would bring at least two books by Janet Evanovich. She is my favorite. I love humorous books with self-deprecating humor, where the main character doesn’t take things too seriously and pokes fun at herself and others in a light-hearted way. BUT, she is a really fast read . .. so I’d have to take along a couple other books that are maybe a little more serious and take longer to read. I mean, who knows how long I’ll be on that desert island??

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Nicolas Ramis, aka The Emotional Chameleon (yes, I may have honed my writing skills binge-reading Marvel Comics—what can I say, we all have our origins). I like to think I’m my own brand of superhero, and I write the kind of books that slap you awake and make you wonder why you’ve been cruising through life on autopilot for so long.

As of today, I’ve written 2 self-help/psychology books and the third is already available in Pre-Order. My books cut through the BS—no sugar-coated fluff here.

It’s all about exposing the RAW TRUTHS of the mind. My writing is straightforward – and yes, it’s also blunt or can be perceived as slightly aggressive at times – but my voice is also gentle when it needs to be.

My words are here to serve my purpose, that is, helping people shift their perspectives and reach new levels of personal freedom, success and happiness.

*The One-Sentence Depression Cure*.

The problem with most personal development or self-help books is they’re just rehashing the same old soup your grandpa was already sipping while flipping through those old-school “how to live better” guides. And sure, those classics have their charm, I dig the kitsch, but let’s face it—what’s the point if you can’t use the ideas to actually improve your daily life? In that case, they’re just entertainment. Even the most comprehensive books are useless if you can’t remember and apply their lessons when life slaps you in the face.

That’s how I came up with the concept. I condensed years of psychological research, my clients’ breakthroughs, and my own battles with depression into a SINGLE, POWERFUL sentence. It’s not just a gimmick—it’s a formula, a mental wrecking ball that shatters your old ways of thinking. The sentence is the golden scripture, the key to unlocking real change. Then, each chapter of the book then decodes one fragment of that sentence, taking you deeper and deeper into its meaning.

Think of it like this: the sentence is your lifeline, the chapters are your PERSONAL COACHING sessions with me—except it’s just you, the book, and your mind.

I’m also making intensive use of what today’s world considers one of its weakest links—EMPATHY—to my advantage. I hypnotize myself (self-hypnosis) into what I like to call “deep-wave writing sessions” (forget transcendental, this is way more intense). It’s like flipping a switch in my brain, almost like meditation, but with a raw edge. I project emotional and social scenes into my mind as if I’m living them right in the moment.

That’s how I feel the suffering, the fears, the desires of the soul, and translate them into words in a way that is so relatable it feels like reality slapping you in the face.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Anthony Bourdain’s *Kitchen Confidential* for his “don’t give a f***” attitude. Hunter S. Thompson for the raw, unfiltered chaos of his gonzo journalism. French Existentialists like Sartre and Camus—they’ll strip life down to its absurd, brutal core and leave you in the dirt.

But let’s break the mold a bit—Jimi Hendrix. Yeah, the guy didn’t write books, but he wrote the vibe. Just like John Bonham and his grooves from hell. Their music made me feel like the world was bending reality, like the way words should twist a reader’s mind.

And for real curveballs, Haruki Murakami’s surrealism, Ranpo Edogawa’s dark mysteries, and the confidential genius, Thomas Temple. Ever heard of *Beware of your digital twin*? No? Read it. The guy was pulling out crystal ball predictions on our AI-dystopia before anyone cared to listen. His *Whispered Crimes*? That one will carve its way into your brain like a slow-acting venom—etching memories that won’t quit. So, yeah, these influences—they’re anything but cozy fireside reads.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently deep in the next sequels of the ‘Overcome Depression Mastery’ series—a modern, no-nonsense short-encyclopedia on depression that’s not just for the depressed. Whether you’re battling negative thoughts, struggling with self-esteem, or just stuck in a funk, this series is your go-to for cutting through the mental noise.

Straight-up guerrilla tactics. Word of mouth through people who’ve found value in my work is the best weapon. And, of course, controversial posts that get people triggered, because hey, if you’re not shaking things up, you’re not doing it right.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write like you don’t care who’s going to read it. If you’re holding back, if you’re thinking about pleasing anyone, you’re already dead in the water. Be raw. Be real. That’s the only way anyone’s going to care.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Kill your darlings.” Not in a literal sense, obviously, but get rid of anything in your writing or life that’s not serving the ultimate purpose. You might think it’s gold, but if it’s holding you back, it’s dead weight.

What are you reading now?
I’ve got Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl on one side and Hell’s Angels by Hunter S. Thompson on the other. I like balance, you know—deep philosophical thoughts mixed with the craziness of life.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More mental excavation—and I’m pulling no punches. You see, I’ve spent 20 years wrestling with my own body, mind, and mixed-wrestling partners (literally). Between shiatsu, yoga, and nuad boran in the jungle backroads of Thailand, I’ve cracked some serious codes on emotions as energy signatures. And I’m ready to mess with what you thought you knew about the body-mind connection. Oh, and maybe one day, I’ll drop a fiction piece that’ll gut-punch your psyche the same way a badass self-help book would.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
So I’m authorized to give 3 or 4 answers, right? Here are three:

– **No book**—because reading *one more personal development book* on how to “find my purpose” would push me to throw myself into the sea. Seriously, I’ve read more than a hundred, and let me tell you, those are just wish-fulfillment fantasies wrapped in motivational quotes.
– **A survival manual**—I mean, screw personal growth, I just want to make sure I don’t die of dehydration or get eaten by something that crawls. Do you think “positive thinking” will light my fire? Hard pass.
– **A blank notebook**—If I’m gonna lose my mind, I’ll at least write some bonkers survival notes that’ll make me famous posthumously. Maybe someone will find it and call it “*The Last Self-Help Book Ever Needed*.”
