I’m Sonia Rompoti, a storyteller at heart and a dreamer by nature. With a background in psychology and a love for weaving words into worlds, I’ve always been fascinated by the intricacies of human emotion and connection. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Widow’s Curse. It’s a story about grief, resilience, and finding love when it feels like all is lost. The inspiration came from a blend of personal experience and a desire to explore the complexities of widowhood through a protagonist who’s smart, resilient, and anything but a damsel in distress. The setting, with its Gothic undertones and haunting atmosphere, mirrors her internal struggles and makes it a perfect backdrop for a tale that’s both heart-wrenching and hopeful.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t say unusual… eccentric, maybe. I’m the kind of writer who needs a soundtrack for every scene—whether it’s classical piano for tender moments or heavy metal when the action heats up. And I have this quirky habit of writing the ending first, like planting a flag at the finish line and then racing toward it. It’s like I need to see where I’m going before I can take off.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m influenced by the lyrical prose of Sarah J. Maas, the world-building mastery of J.R.R. Tolkien, and the raw emotional punch of Colleen Hoover. I love books that mix powerful storytelling with deeply flawed characters—ones that explore light and dark, hope and despair, all while keeping you utterly enthralled.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m knee-deep in a children’s book called Salome, the Invisible Witch. It’s a whimsical yet poignant story about a young witch struggling with self-acceptance and bullying. At the same time, I’m also working on The Widow’s Curse series, expanding the world, diving into new character perspectives, and exploring what happens after the curse lifts.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me, building a personal connection is key, so I focus on my blog and newsletters. I want readers to feel like they’re getting an inside scoop, an invitation to my writing world. My blog is the go-to hub where I share behind-the-scenes looks, upcoming book news, and tips for aspiring writers. I’ve also had great success using social media to engage directly with readers—Instagram for those visual storytelling moments and TikTok for quick updates and, of course, bookish shenanigans.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write without fear, edit without mercy. Don’t let perfectionism stop you before you’ve even started. Pour everything you’ve got into the page, then step back and shape it into something even better. And above all, keep going. The world needs your stories—yes, yours.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard? “Write like you’re the only one who’ll ever read it.”

It’s that perfect mix of freeing and terrifying, right? It means letting go of all the self-doubt, the overthinking, and the pressure to please everyone. It’s about diving into your story with reckless abandon—writing those scenes that make you giddy, that break your heart, or that feel just a little too raw. Because when you let yourself go there, that’s where the magic happens. And, surprise—those are usually the moments readers love the most.

So, take a deep breath, forget the critics, and just write.

What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m diving into Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros—a dragon-fueled, adrenaline-pumping ride through a fantasy academy with more twists and betrayals than a soap opera set in a warzone! It’s got that delicious mix of danger, romance, and jaw-dropping action that keeps me up way past my bedtime.

Oh, and the snarky, sharp-witted heroine? Total mood. It’s the kind of book that makes me want to dust off my own manuscripts and crank up the drama, the tension, and the stakes to sky-high levels.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Up next? I’m gearing up to unleash a storm of creativity! Picture a whirlwind of book releases, each one packed with page-turning goodness and unexpected twists. I’m talking sizzling romance, heart-thumping suspense, and stories that pull you in and refuse to let go. Think of it like a literary fiesta—new characters, fresh plots, and settings that take readers to places they didn’t even know they needed to go.

But it’s not just about cranking out stories—I’m diving headfirst into the digital realm too. The blog is getting a glow-up with advice for fellow wordsmiths, juicy behind-the-scenes peeks, and maybe even a few bookish rants for good measure. If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I had to face a deserted island’s isolation armed only with a few Sarah J. Maas books, I’d want the most explosive, emotionally shattering reads by my side to keep me both on the edge of my beach-rock seat and entertained for ages. Here’s what I’d grab:

“A Court of Mist and Fury” — This book is like drinking a cosmic cocktail of star-kissed love, trauma recovery, and unbridled power. It’s got wings, fae, and enough sass to keep me inspired while I’m outsmarting those coconuts.

“House of Earth and Blood” — If you’re stuck somewhere sandy, you need a book that’s like a neon rave party crossed with a murder mystery. Between its snarky heroine, supernatural squad goals, and emotional gut punches, it’s the perfect escape from an island that’s less “paradise” and more “sandpaper.”

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
When I was in 7th grade, our teacher was in front of the class talking while I was busy writing a short science fiction story in my notebook.

She noticed me, and without saying a word, walked back to my desk, took my notebook, closed it, laid it on her desk and resumed her lesson. I was too afraid to ask for it back.

Two months later, I found out that she had read it and submitted it to the school newspaper and they published it! From that day on, I have wanted to write more than anything else. That was 63 years ago, and I am still writing!

I have done a variety of things in my life, starting with going to college and then being a flight weather forecaster for Navy fighter jets during the Vietnam War. Later, I came across a man who helped me film an artist show for T.V., which ran for three years in different market venues.

I had a career with the United States government, and after I retired I went to school once again and became an ordained Protestant pastor. After spending nearly 20 years as a pastor in several states, I was forced into retirement due to physical conditions.

After I retired from the pulpit, I kept writing and ended up, at this point, authoring more than twelve books, in several different genres. You will notice that for each position I held as mentioned above, there came an “end date”. The only thing that has never stopped is my passion for writing.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, which I just finished, is entitled, “A Murder In Sandy Cove.”

I was inspired by a young man who had just finished his tour of duty with the Marines in Afghanistan and was eager to head home to his hometown to fulfill his childhood dream. that of working for their police force.

He was so passionate, I felt there was a story to be told, and the more I thought about it, the more I knew I had to write it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do not write every day. My office is on the second floor of our home, and at my age, it is harder to “get up there” than it used to be, so I make notes in a notebook. Every other day or so, when I can get upstairs, I take my notebook and read and type, for hours on end, watching my imagination taking place on my computer screen.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Being a retired pastor, I was first influenced by the writers of the Bible. For everything those men may have lacked, the one thing they had a lot of was pure honest passion for what they wrote about.

I pray that I never lose the passion I have for writing. Writing has been my desire, escape, and even my friend for too many years for me to let go of it now.

What are you working on now?
I just started a tale of a man who gets off work one day and bids the people he works with good-bye. But when he goes to the parking lot to get into his car, it is gone. He phones his wife to see if she might have taken it, but there is no such phone number.

He goes back inside the building, but they will not let him in as none of them recognize him.

I have my notes that I have written, but I am not positive where this story will lead, as it keeps changing on me every few days.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
In college, it was pounded into me to do all I could to avoid plagiarism. Today, I have been told that my personal writing style shows up many times as an AI produced writing and that I should change my personal style of writing so that it does not do that.

Rather than change ‘me’, I have discovered another way to deal with it. I use two different websites to help.

I use a free website that checks to see if what I have written is AI generated. If it shows up that it is, I use another website to paraphrase my words. I let it paraphrase the words I wrote three times. Then, I edit the finished product again using my own words.

After that, I can feel confident that nobody can ever say I cheated or that I am not using my own words to write.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Definitely do not try to write for any monetary rewards, because there will not be any! Instead, write because it consumes you and you just love to write – period!

And do not let negate comments do anything but motivate you more. You will improve naturally as you keep writing, so just relax, chill out, and write from your heart.

Oh yeah, you will be faced with a million ways to spend your money to “get sales.” You may have to occasionally spend some money, but spend wisely. If someone contacts you, tell them “NO!” If you want someone’s help, you contact them!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
An old preacher once told a much younger me, “Pray before you write something, pray as you write it, and then after you finish writing, pray again to see if that is what you really want to say to others!”

That man was Billy Graham, and I met him in the 1960s in Tokyo when I was in the Navy. Smartest advice I ever got!

What are you reading now?
I just finished James Michner’s “IBERIA”. Such an elegant wordsmith! If I could be half as good as him, I would finally be satisfied with my work!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have found my niche. I believe I shall write until I die, hopefully making a little profit along the way and praying I can give my readers their money’s worth!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Bible.
A few good comic books.
A book on how to sterilize water and exotic foods.
And a dozen Stephen King books.

Teens Gluten Free Cookbook this inspired me because the teens have it hard enough just coping in the world today, teens can get in their own world and bake and enjoy what they are doing it like gives them a purpose.

Yes, water on my right and my phone on the left and have to have the music blasting.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Alex Guarnaschelli I love the way she really puts herself out there. One of her books is fantastic for different kinds of meals.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a few more gluten free cookbooks. One gluten free food cookbook that is not desserts.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Being consistent with getting my books on Social Media and Platforms. Don’t be afraid to put your self out there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, be careful with scams you can get scammed so easy.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Before my mom passed she said never give up on your books.

What are you reading now?
I have been reading old cookbooks which I love

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to be on Food Network to get my word and recipes out to the world! Keep writing my gluten free cookbooks.

My home state is Virginia, but I’m currently holed up at Fort Bliss, Texas, with my husband. If there’s water nearby, chances are I’ll be on my paddleboard. On solid ground, I’m enjoying the ride on my Royal Enfield Classic 350. My debut book is called “The Magdala League: Mystery on Maple Street.”

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“The Magdala League: Mystery on Maple Street” is the title of my latest book. My goal was to write a thrilling story that appeals to young Christian readers, teaches them valuable lessons, and inspires their faith.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Traveling with my husband means I write on the go.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a fan of mysteries and enjoy reading the books of Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie. Along with the others, Charles Dickens, C. S. Lewis, and Jane Austen are at the top of my list.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m writing the second book in the Magdala League series, which I’m calling “The Secret of the Desert Cave” for now.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As a new author, I appreciate my publisher’s marketing efforts. I’ve come to realize that Goodreads is the perfect place to connect with readers.

Me? Give advice? I’m still figuring this out!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I found the most valuable advice for new authors on Sara A. Noë’s blog, where she shares “Author’s 20 Tips for a Successful Book Signing.” Bookmarks, check. Retractable banner, check!

What are you reading now?
I try to find time for Benjamin L. Merkle’s “Beginning with New Testament Greek” amidst my writing sessions.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My goal is to publish ten books in the Magdala League series. Help me out by buying my first book!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I don’t know if this is a trick question, but my phone has a sizable library. However, if I found myself without my phone, I’d make sure to have the ESV Bible, “The Horse and His Boy” by C. S. Lewis, Agatha Christie’s “Hercule Poirot: The Complete Short Stories,” and “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a Chinese Canadian author & poet with three self-published books so far. When I’m not writing, I’m probably reading or gaining inspiration from the shows I’ve watched or games I’ve played.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “Bloody Fantasia,” Book 3 in the Harlow Mystery series! This amateur sleuth murder mystery book takes place at a highly esteemed music school.

It was inspired by a fusion of La Corda D’Oro (a manga series), The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and elements from several other mystery books set in school settings.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I can think of, except for occasionally acting out scenes that I want to write. Fortunately, I haven’t done that in public by accident.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are far too many authors and books that have influenced me throughout the years to completely list. However, Agatha Christie, Joanne Fluke, Lisa Mantchev, and Junpei Inuzuka are among the authors that influenced me!

What are you working on now?
I am currently writing two poetry chapbooks and several other fantasy books in different subgenres.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method when it comes to promoting my work is just being consistent with promotion. For example, post about it on socials weekly. I think it’s also important to be creative with book promotion – don’t be afraid to experiment with creating book trailers, posts giving information about the characters, and so on!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t be afraid to experiment with your work, especially in the early drafting stages. If you have something that plotted out beforehand, and it changes later on, it might be a change for the better.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Figure out what your definition of “success” as a writer is.

Everyone’s definition of how they want to reach “success” as a writer will be different. Mine has changed drastically in the past year so I can have a writing journey that gives me more joy regardless of how fast or slow I am with having new work published. It’s really important that when you figure out your definition of success, it’s because it’s something you genuinely strive for versus doing it because everyone else seems to be working for that same type of goal.

What are you reading now?
Currently, I’m reading “The Spellshop” by Sarah Beth Durst and just finished reading “The Girls I’ve Been” by Tess Sharpe!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have several works that need to be completed, writing-wise. I hope to self-publish a poetry chapbook next!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring “Restaurant To Another World” by Junpei Inuzuka, “The House In The Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune, and “Alice In Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an illustrator and author with a passion for children’s books. I’ve always loved storytelling through art, and after years of working as an illustrator, I transitioned into creating my own stories. I’ve written and illustrated a handful of books, each one inspired by my deep love for nature, childhood imagination, and adventure. My work primarily focuses on crafting meaningful stories that connect with young readers and bring joy to their world.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is SPIKE: A Dino Tale of Friendship. Spike is a timid T-Rex who wants nothing more than to make friends. Follow his adventure as he learns that courage comes from trying, one step at a time. This beautifully illustrated tale inspires children to embrace new experiences, helping them understand the power of friendship.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t say I have unusual habits, but my process is very visual. As an illustrator, I often sketch out scenes before writing them. The images help guide the flow of the story. I also find that taking long walks in nature sparks creativity, and I always carry a small notebook to jot down ideas or quick sketches.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve always been inspired by classic authors and illustrators like Beatrix Potter and Tove Jansson. Their ability to blend beautiful art with storytelling has influenced my own approach. I also admire contemporary creators like Shaun Tan and Oliver Jeffers for their imaginative worlds and unique visual styles.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m working on a new picture book that explores the wonders of imagination and nature through the eyes of a child. It’s an exciting project, and I’m experimenting with new techniques to bring the visuals to life in a way that complements the story’s sense of discovery.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find Instagram to be a great platform for sharing my illustrations and connecting with my audience. It’s visual, which is perfect for my work, and allows me to interact directly with readers and other creators. I also enjoy doing live drawing sessions and sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of my process on social media.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to stay true to your creative vision and never be afraid to experiment. The more you create, the more you learn. Also, find your own voice and trust that it will resonate with readers. And lastly, connect with others in the industry — the support and advice from fellow authors and illustrators is invaluable.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve received is to create without worrying about perfection. Often, we can be our own toughest critics, but letting go of the idea that everything needs to be perfect frees you to experiment, make mistakes, and grow as a creator.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m planning to expand into more interactive storytelling formats, like combining traditional picture books with digital elements. I want to explore how technology can enhance storytelling while keeping the heart and soul of a hand-crafted book. I’m also considering collaborative projects with other artists and authors, which is something I’ve always wanted to do.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d bring The Moomins by Tove Jansson, for its charming simplicity and adventure, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland for its whimsical storytelling, The Arrival by Shaun Tan for its stunning visuals, and The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a timeless reminder of the beauty of imagination.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an Australian cross-genre author, so I write books varying from horror to historical fiction. Four of my books are published, but I have written thirteen all up. I typically write and release one book per year (not the same book). Next on the agenda is a horror called Mr Hangman, so keep an eye out for that one in 2025!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I came up with Rumours and Repercussions much like most of my books: a simple idea forms in my noggin, and then I let the plot percolate for as long as I possibly can until it’s bursting to come out of me. That’s when I know I’m on to something good; when the storyline won’t leave my mind and I have to find out what happens in the plot. I do not plan my books well. Meaning, I am a proud panster; I sit in front of my laptop and let the story unfold naturally. I don’t have scene charts or mood boards or character family trees sitting in front of me. None of that matters to me; I loathe the thought of knowing the entire story before I even sit down to write it. I focus on the characters and what situations I will drop them into, and see how they worm their way out of it.
My latest book was inspired by the movie Now and Then, starring Christina Ricci. I love stories based around friendship and then lengths people will go to in order to help/save one of their friends. Common themes among my books include love, loss, death, friendship and fierce loyalty.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t say unusual per se, but I am not looking my best when I write a story. Typically, I wake up bright and early and have some brekkie, then I’ll head straight into my office, pyjamas and all, and sit in front of my laptop and write until the sun goes down. No make-up, no changing into jeans and a nice shirt. I also take little notice of what I eat – something quick and easy, with as little hassle as possible (mac and cheese, instant noodles etc.). But having a nice cup of tea throughout the day is a must!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King has by far had the greatest influence on me as a writer. To me, he is the epitome of the word ‘storyteller’; I am never more engrossed in a book than in one written by Sai King. He effortlessly dances between genres; in fact, some of my favourite books written by him aren’t even horror at all. His metaphors and similes are also second to none, in my humble opinion. I devour anything written by that genius.

What are you working on now?
My fifth novel, Mr Hangman. It is due for release in 2025, so I am heavily into the editing stages. Again, this is another story about a group of teens, but this story revolves around a murderer terrorising the close-knit town of Windsor in 1985. Four high school mates set out to bring down the one newspapers have dubbed ‘Mr Hangman’ – given that the murderer leaves discarded body parts around town: a leg, an arm, a torso etc.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I run a lot of giveaways to attract new readers; I don’t mind handing out freebies at all. Goodreads and Instagram are my go-to sites for finding new readers and promoting my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do as much research as you can before starting out. Watch a gazillion YouTube videos, read blogs, join Facebook groups etc. Don’t do what I did: jump in at the deep end without a clue what to do. It’ll save you a lot of time and a heck of a lot of money. Things in this industry are always changing. It is up to YOU to do the research and make sure you’re aware of how things should be done. And please hire an editor and a decent cover designer. Too many newbie authors have been shunned and given 1-star reviews because they haven’t taken the time to hire an editor. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot; spend the time and money necessary in order to come across as professional. You can do this!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
No-one is ever going to come knocking on your door, presenting you with everything you dream of on a silver platter. If you want something in life, then go out and get it! No excuses, no regrets. You have one shot at life. Make it count.

What are you reading now?
The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden. Now there’s an author who knows how to write a page-turner!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I always write one book per year, knowing that it won’t see the light of day for about four-five years after that. I’ve had an idea gnawing away at me, a mystery/thriller titled Down by the Blue. Amanda and Frankie (Francesca) are best friends, and they plan to run away together. But on the night they plan to leave, while at a raving party on the beach, Amanda falls off a cliff and plunges into the ocean. Never to be seen again.
Decades later, Frankie receives an anonymous letter stating that Amanda’s death was no accident. Frankie sets off to uncover the truth about how her best friend truly died, uncovering dark secrets and sinister motives along the way.
