Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My day job is sales for a lighting company. I am husband to a loving wife and father to a wonderful daughter. This is my first book, so being a self-published author is new to me. Just enjoying the journey and looking forward to much success.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Mya and the Magic Feather is my first book. It is inspired by my amazing daughter Mya. She is 3 years old and a beacon of light. So curious, energetic and imaginative. One night while reading bedtime stories I thought to myself that it would be pretty cool to write a story for her to enjoy and here we are.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
In general, I am unorthodox. I think of rhymes or sentences then build a story from there. I don’t really have a theme fleshed out until later. I write then put together from there.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Margaret Wise Brown, Dr. Seuss and H.A. Rey. So Goodnight Moon, all of Dr. Seuss and Curious George have been my biggest influences. I appreciate the abstract thinking of Seuss, the warmth of Brown and the adventure for Rey.
What are you working on now?
Currently, I am adding to the series of Mya’s Magic Adventures with two more additions so stay tuned. Additionally, I will have some sales books so anyone within the business world can stay tuned as well.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
This is my first venture into being an author so I have gone to Amazon to self-publish. I learned about Awesome Gang through Kindlepreneur.com so this is part of my promotion.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My only advice for new authors or anyone in general is to be authentic. Be true to your passion and beliefs. Be focused, plan your work. Have goals and you’ll be successful.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have gotten is that a positive mind state is the key to success. If you think you will succeed then you will. If you think you’ll fail, then you will. It’s all about positivity.
What are you reading now?
Currently, I am reading Napoleon Hill – Think and Grow Rich and Cuddly Piglet to my daughter at bedtime.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, I am striving to get better at my craft. Trust myself. Trust the creative process and put out more children’s literature and sales literature. Otherwise, my goal is to live happily everyday, love my family unconditionally and enjoy the journey.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Mind Hacking – John Hargrave, The Purpose Drive Life – Rick Warren, The Secret – Rhonda Byrne
