Interview With Author Charlie Sochacki
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I'm originally from Chicago, now living in Arizona. This is my first book, although I have ideas for my next two books! When I'm not writing, I love music and sports. I love all of the Chicago and Phoenix sports teams. I play drums in two bands. I hit the comedy stages around Phoenix as well. My "desert island band" is unquestionably Rush.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My debut novel, A Chizona Resume: Backstage on the General Labor Tour, was inspired when I was in the airport, returning from an out of state job training. As I sat in the airport, hoping this next job would lead to a long and promising career, I began thinking about all of the jobs I've had and thought "that has to be some kind of record!" I started a list of all the jobs I'd held at that time, and realized the list looked like a Table of Contents. This realization prompted me to consider writing it all down.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I'm ready to write, I put on my favorite ball cap – it's from a Rush concert. That, plus a tall cup of coffee and I'm good. I tend to write late at night.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Several – including all of the books written by Neil Peart. I also enjoyed the autobiographies of Sammy Hagar, Motley Crue and others.
What are you working on now?
Mostly promoting the first book (released to public on April 21, 2026). My manager says I'm not allowed to start writing the next book (Thirty Bands in Thirty Years) until we are 90 days into the promotion for the current book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
IDK – I am still learning this
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get help! I am a new author and maybe in need of more advice than I can give.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
No such thing as a job that's too big; only the wrong tools.
What are you reading now?
Honestly, right now the book promotion is taking so much time, I'm not reading much other than, Shift Happens: The History of Labor in the United States
What’s next for you as a writer?
my next book, Thirty Bands in Thirty Years!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Along with the Rush music catalogue, I would also bring Neil Peart's Ghost Rider: Travels on the Heeling Road; Brothers by Alex Van Halen; and The Lord of The Rings trilogy.
