Interview With Author Daniel O.
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Daniel O., an indie author writing near-future speculative fiction about money, freedom and technology. I’ve written one published book so far: The Value War: A Tale of Freedom and Control.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Value War: A Tale of Freedom and Control. It was inspired by the real-world debate over central bank digital currencies and Bitcoin. In a divided future of 2040, centralized CBDCs clash with Bitcoin and decentralization, and a young coder named Elara uncovers an AI plot to shatter Bitcoin’s foundation.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I draft scenes as pure dialogue first, then build the world around whatever the characters end up arguing about.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
George Orwell, Neal Stephenson and William Gibson, plus non-fiction writing on Bitcoin and monetary history.
What are you working on now?
A follow-up story set in the same 2040 world, exploring what happens after the events of The Value War.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Word of mouth in online communities that care about the book’s themes, plus indie promo sites like Awesome Gang.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Finish the draft before you judge it, and publish before you feel ready.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write the book you wish already existed.
What are you reading now?
A mix of speculative fiction and non-fiction about monetary history.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More near-future fiction about technology, money and personal freedom.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
1984, Snow Crash, The Count of Monte Cristo, and a good history of money.
