Interview With Author Donnie Knox
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a corporate accountant by trade, personal growth advocate by passion. This is my very first book but there are more to come int he future.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Unspiritual Awakening was inspired by the profound healing I was able to accomplish through mindset change. I have always had lots to say but this was the first time I felt the world needed to access this message on a larger scale. I have read a lot of spiritual books and know there are a lot out there. But never did I find a book that showed the values outside of the devotion. I needed the world to know there is a way outside of that.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read a wide variety of books. Specific to the influence of this particular work, I would have to say Eckhart Tolle, Michael Singer, and Tara Westover.
What are you working on now?
My biggest struggle when I started writing was getting lost about where I was going. I had to take time and really understand who I was writing for, and that is where this book was truly born. As of right now, I have a lot more stories to tell, but until I find the inspiration for my audience, those stories won’t truly come together. So to answer your question, I am looking for my next inspiration for the audience.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still very early in my promotion so I am playing with different avenues to find the right one.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Have a clear vision of who you are writing the story for.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Embrace the vulnerability that comes from letting your stories out. That vulnerability is actually strength.
What are you reading now?
I am working to incorporate more play in my life so a friend recommended:
Play: How it Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination, and Invigorates the Soul. by Stuart Brown M.D.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have more stories to tell, so I imagine more books.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
