Foundation of the Dragon Books 1-4 by Robb Pritchard
For fans of Bernard Cornwell, Ben Kane, and Simon Scarrow.
A land forged in blood. A people who refuse to die. A saga four centuries in the making.
Rome thought it had conquered Britain. It was wrong.
Spanning nearly four hundred years, from the 1st to the 5th centuries, this sweeping, blood-dark omnibus chronicles the slow, violent unmaking of Roman Britain. Through the eyes of soldiers, saints, usurpers, and kings, watch as empire, faith, and ancient tribal power collide across a land that refuses to be tamed. This is historical fiction with the mud, the oaths, and the cost still on the page, leading to the first stirrings of the kingdom that will one day produce the king they called Arthur.
Book 1: Brethren (AD 77). Rome has broken the native British tribes. Cadwal is sent to the mines, the place Rome sends men it wants forgotten. His sons are taken as slaves by a rival tribe. Word finds him in the dark: his people still stand and need him. But every day he fights for his tribe is a day his sons are still in chains. There is no right choice. There is only the man he chooses to be.
Book 2: Usurpers (AD 380). A Roman general dreams of a girl he’s never met, and the old power in the hills means to make it real. Magnus Maximus (Macsen Wledig) and Elen, a woman touched by the divine, will use each other to change an empire. Neither asked for it. Both will burn if it fails.
Book 3: Enemies of the Empire (AD 383). Magnus Maximus has never lost a battle. Now he reaches for the purple of the emperor, stripping Hadrian’s Wall bare to seize it. The painted warbands are already massing. And the men beside him have betrayed him before. For the ultimate prize, he must take the ultimate risk.
Book 4: Overlord (AD 448). Rome is gone. The Picts are breaching the Wall in the north. Vortigern makes the deal that will define both him and Britain forever: British soil, for Saxon swords. He thinks he is buying a shield for his people, but he won’t know until it’s too late that he has handed them a kingdom.
Four novels. One embattled land. The making of a legend begins here.
Over 1,200 pages of Dark Age Britain.
Told entirely from the British side of the sword. The side history forgot.

Author Bio:
Robb grew up in North Wales, the land of ancient kings, (although not ones taught in school) Roman ruins, and the stories that inspired the Foundation of the Dragon series. He knows the word hiraeth, a longing for home, intimately, having spent nearly thirty years travelling to over a hundred countries—working as an off-road expedition guide, English teacher, journalist, and occasional race car driver—before the deep history of his homeland pulled him back.
That same instinct for hard ground and harder living is what brings the grit and glory of Celtic and Dark Age Britain to life on the page. His research takes him from the brooding mountains of Snowdonia to the battlefields of the Roman Empire, and the years spent reading landscapes, cultures, and people in the real world are exactly what let him render this lost one so vividly.
Before he turned to historical fiction, Robb honed his craft as a writer and photographer, test-driving classic Porsches and Ferraris for a living. When he’s not digging through ancient history or on the road, he lives in Prague with his wife in the winter and travels around Wales in the summer, writing where the books are set.
His first series, Foundation of the Dragon, is rooted in the real events of Rome’s conquest and the legends of Arthur. It tells the story of Britain from the Welsh perspective, a perspective overlooked for too long, bringing a brutal, character-driven authenticity to one of history’s most turbulent periods.
