Interview With Author Gemma Stringer
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have published six books to date and have a couple on pre order. I’ve been writing for six years so have drafts in various stages. So, I guess the answer is a lot of books, but I do write every day and I type quickly.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Heather and the Hedgehog rescue. It was inspired by my daughter finding a hedgehog in her grandmother’s garden, and our love of open mic nights. My daughter is a fabulous singer so the two things just sort of went together.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I fast draft – Is that unusual? I can draft a short novella in a week. I can crank out words really quickly.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like to write what I enjoy so I write a lot of young adult romance.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a young adult coming of age novella and also the third book in my Dawclark Hotel series, which may or may not be the last book in that series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think talking to people about them in person helps or promotions on websites like this. I do use a lot of these types of websites for visibility.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what you would like to read, because through the editing process you will get fed up of reading it and if you enjoy the story it’s much more palatable.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write the next book.
What are you reading now?
I don’t have time to read currently, but I have a TBR that includes anything written by Elle Kennedy. I literally watched the first series of OFF CAMPUS in one day and loved it! Everything about it from the soundtrack, to the acting, to just everything.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue writing. I have so many drafts that need to be finished and published. That will take me to the end of 2027 at least.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Deal – Elle Kennedy
Anything by Sophie Kinsella
Something nostalgic like Matilda.
