Mitian and his daughter, along with their camels, camp for the night while crossing the desert to trade bolts of silk in Yojaief.
He is going to tell her a story…
… But Dariad has envisioned his doom.
Grand Delusion is a story of enormous scope told from a unique narrative perspective.
In terms of genre, Grand Delusion would be classed as Science Fiction.
The problem is, it’s true.
Dualta Carolan was the worst birth to survive in the thirty-five year career of the attending maternity-nurse in April 1977.
Although he didn’t know quite how bad his emergence was until more recently, the thought did pop into his mind every now and then during his childhood that he was an imposter who maybe did t deserve to be here. Now he views it far more positively.
That maternity unit in Enniskillen, close enough to allow for the chance to grab an to an existence, was closed-down a few years after this, so Dualta is now able to entertain the thought that this is the only time in all of human history when he could have made it!
Yes, he wouldn’t have gotten as far as those Spartan rocks, but there’s a slim chance that no one has ever thought in the same way that he thinks, and so for brief instances, he allows himself a moment to feel special and unique (as we all should in truth!).
He grew up amidst the Troubles in Northern Ireland, doing jobs early on such as farm work, including lifting stones in ploughed fields or cutting turf, with a little bit of Time before running off to college and working on psychiatric assessment units, which he then did full-time for over a decade.
During this time, the best (postable) compliment received was getting told that a dead, frozen Leonardo Di Caprio turned into him as he sank down watched by the sobbing Rose.
Over the next decade the best comment was being called “a poor man’s Kevin Bacon”.
After doing nights in psychiatry for two years and going to college in the day time to get his masters, Dualta left the. nursing role and qualified as an English teacher, teaching for a year in Sharjah, including royalty. After returning to the U.K. he has enjoyed certain elements of teaching, especially being a tutor and the “I get it!” Look on a the face of a student. A recent one was when an individual realised that “copying without getting caught” was just a very simple way to encourage redrafting, playing with syntax, modifying detail/vocab etc. while adding a sprinkling of rebelliousness!
He’s released a couple of songs on iTunes/Spotify/Amazozn etc. made on a phone with just a guitar and Apple headphone mic. Very proud of Figment, by Dualta! Like the other one. Too but wouldn’t change a note of the former.
He loves playing the guitar and try to get on a piano, but only knows how to make up his own songs!
He spent a week on just one paragraph of Grand Delusion Episode 1. He’s immensely proud – the best thing he has created other than children people begin to realise… it’s good g to blow some minds clean away ha ha! But I’m mostly proud because , if it does well, I’ll totally deserve it – BlackSwanned myself on it.
Would most like to:
Not worry about money for a few days in a row!
Have a music studio of my own in my own house.
And all that stuff!
Oh yeah! -he has definitely saved two lives – most proud of one of them when, before jumping into the Atlantic to help this teenager get back to safety, he genuinely considered, with the swells being gigantic and the tide going out, that he might not make it back himself.
Overall, I believe in celebrating people for what they are, not what they’re not (what a waste of time)!
