Welcome to the swanky Menorah Retirement Home in Aurora, Minnesota, where residents are expiring under peculiar circumstances. Accidental? Not to Ellie Shapiro and her octogenarian pal Riva, who are convinced that a murderer is on the loose.
As they delve into the mystery of why anyone should want to kill Myra, an inoffensive widow, or cantankerous Mort, the intrepid senior sleuths navigate a quirky talent show, a historical exhibition of Jewish memorabilia, and dangerous encounters with a shadowy killer.
Knock off the Old Block is a 60,000-word cozy mystery, featuring a gallery of Jewish senior citizens who prove that older is sometimes wiser and it’s never too late to grow and change. If you enjoy a rollicking romp, warm humor, baking, dogs and murder, this is the book for you.
Knock off the Old Block is the second in the Tension on a Pension cozy mystery series.
From unsolicited reviews for Long in the Sleuth, first in the series:
• “Long in the Sleuth” has a solid murder-mystery plot. I giggled my way through the whole thing. This was a perfect “cozy” — just the right amount of suspense, a bit of not-too-gory murder, no bad language, with interesting characters, witty commentary and good recipes! I’ve already bought the sequel — can’t wait to see what Ellie, Riva, Noah, Hal and Shultz, the dog get up to next.
• I found this fun cozy by accident, and am I glad I did!
• What fun! A cast of characters that could have been my aunts and uncles. I thoroughly enjoyed following the exploits of the residents of Menorah retirement home: the cliques, the gossip, the mah Jong, the early bird specials. Carol Novis has created a wonderful new entry in the genre of cozy mysteries. I really enjoyed this cosy mystery. I liked that the heroine was a woman of a certain age, Thank you, Ms Novis, I am looking forward to more of your work. 😊
• This cozy is set in a retirement home, but the main characters have plenty of life left (until someone starts to murder them). I loved it!
