Interview With Author MALIK A. AHMED
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am Malik A. Ahmed, an independent author specializing in dark fantasy, suspense, and thriller fiction. Over the years, I have built my foundation by writing short stories, crime serials, and digital fiction. Currently, I am fully focused on publishing global English-language novels, with my debut full-length release marking the beginning of an exciting multi-book fantasy universe.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The inspiration for The Woman of Fire (Eyes Of Fire Book 1) was quite visceral. The protagonist, Victoria Stevens, actually visited me in a dream. She appeared with her mouth smoothly sealed by her own skin, not stitched with thread, but completely closed over, and she was crying. It was such a haunting, unforgettable image that I knew I had to tell her story. That moment was the spark for the entire Eyes Of Fire series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t call it highly unusual, but I must have absolute silence and a completely dark room, lit only by my computer screen, to write. Because I write high-tension suspense and dark fantasy, creating a quiet, isolated environment helps me completely immerse myself in the psychological state of my characters and maintain a tense atmosphere.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have always been deeply influenced by masters of psychological suspense, intricate plotting, and dark world-building. Authors who can blend intense mystery with complex human motivations are my biggest inspirations. I love stories where the line between good and evil is blurred, forcing the reader to constantly question what will happen next.
What are you working on now?
Right now, my main focus is expanding the Eyes Of Fire universe. Since The Woman Of Fire is only the first installment, I am actively plotting and drafting the next book in the series. I want to make sure the sequel ramps up the stakes, deepens the magical mysteries, and delivers the fast-paced twists that my readers expect.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me, utilizing Amazon Author Central alongside my verified Goodreads Author profile has been the most reliable method. These platforms act as an official anchor for my work. By keeping these databases completely optimized with keywords and connecting directly with avid readers who love dark fantasy and thrillers, I can build long-term visibility that search engines pick up on.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My biggest advice is to stay consistent and focus your energy on your unique voice. Don’t be afraid to take risks, try new genres, or expand into new markets. The digital publishing world gives independent writers incredible freedom, so use it to tell the exact stories you want to read, and your audience will find you.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I ever received was to ‘write the book you desperately want to read but can’t find on the shelves.’ When you write from a place of genuine excitement and curiosity about your own plot twists, that energy naturally transfers to the pages, and the reader can feel the tension and passion in your words.
What are you reading now?
I am currently diving into modern indie dark fantasy and thriller releases on Kindle. I always find it incredibly valuable to read contemporary authors within my own genre. It keeps my mind sharp, helps me understand current reader expectations, and allows me to support fellow independent creators in the book community.
What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next is continuing my expansion into the global English-language fiction market. I am dedicated to delivering a complete, thrilling ride with the Eyes Of Fire series. Beyond that, I plan to explore standalone thriller concepts and psychological suspense novels, building a rich catalog of dark, immersive books for readers worldwide.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring a mix of brilliant plotting and deep atmosphere to keep my mind occupied. I’d definitely choose The Count of Monte Cristo for its unmatched story of patience and revenge, a comprehensive collection of Sherlock Holmes stories for the pure mystery, and a heavy high-fantasy epic like The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson for the massive world-building.
