As theater-crazed junior Seren Bennett would tell you, an “I Want” song is the tune a character sings to let the world know what he or she wants for their lives. Seren Bennett wants to be a New York City playwright after college. For now, she just hopes she and her friends can get through the week before Opening Night.
The drama is not confined to the stage as the cast and crew of Equal Measure prepare for the premiere of the show. Vanessa, the troubled star and best singer of all, misses rehearsal and Ms. Robey, the music teacher/director, must find out why. Social butterfly Jill must ditch her obsessed boyfriend. Most of all, Seren is forced to deal with her own problems. Her mother abandoned the family several years ago and her father never recovered. Seren spends the whole week helping her friends work through their problems, but who will help her when it’s her turn to deal with drama?

The Fletcher High series is loosely based on some of my own experiences in high school. Seren is her own character, but we have a few things in common. Her family situation resembled mine, we both got involved in the musical in the same way, we are both playwrights… Okay. I guess we have a LOT in common!
In addition to writing, I enjoy baseball and repairing fountain pens.
