Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am R. Manimaran, an author, screenwriter, and filmmaker based in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, India. I am deeply passionate about storytelling across multiple formats, from cinematic screenplays to captivating novels. I have written and published several works spanning paranormal horror-comedy, thrillers, historical mysteries, and filmmaking guides. My primary goal as a writer is to entertain readers with engaging plots, dynamic characters, and fresh narrative twists.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “Ghost Cooked Biryani: Horror Comedy Novel.” The inspiration came from my desire to fuse contrasting elements—eerie supernatural folklore and everyday situational humor centered around food. Food brings people together, and intertwining a bizarre culinary mystery with ghostly chaos created an appetizing, hilarious, and unique story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always draft my stories, scenes, and character arcs by hand in a notebook before typing them digitally. Writing by hand helps me visualize the pacing, emotional flow, and scene progression much more vividly.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am deeply influenced by classic storytellers and legendary thriller writers who masterfully balance intricate mystery with fast-paced storytelling. Cinematic screenwriting structures and rich regional folklore have also shaped my narrative style.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on an expansive lineup of stories across multiple genres, including intense crime thrillers, historical mysteries, and screenwriting projects, along with translating my original concepts for global readers.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon KDP Select promotions and Goodreads community engagement have been effective platforms for reaching active book lovers and building an organic reader base.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Focus on consistency and write authentically from the heart. Do not hesitate to draft ideas freely before refining them, and always keep the reader’s engagement and entertainment at the core of your storytelling.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Show, don’t tell—and never stop writing from genuine intuition.
What are you reading now?
Classic suspense thrillers and contemporary mystery bestsellers.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Publishing more gripping crime and historical fiction novels, along with taking cinematic scripts into full production.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Classic mystery thrillers, screenwriting master guides, historical epics, and a blank notebook to write new stories.
