Interview With Author Roberta Howe
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in the north of England, near the beautiful tourist area of The Lake District. I have a dog, love walking and writing. I have just finished book four in a series of cozy murder, mystery, adventure mixed with lots of humour and I started in 2019 around covid, having nothing to do. I was inspired by the fact that my family were all writers. My mother, aunt and father all had books published during the 1950's up to the 1980's. Romance and mystery .
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Azalea and I – On the Road to Mutiny and Inspiration comes from my trip to the Dominican Republic. All my books are set in different foreign countries and the Caribbean is very appealing, fitting in well with my exotic characters.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unusual habits are writing down many things I observe and hear in daily life. I then make them fit into my book, even though they may have no relevance. However, it makes my main characters say things that give them special personalities which I build on continually.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am erratic with planning. I get ideas. I fit them into foreign places and wonder what my heroines will do. I know how they will act so I let them get on with it, then maybe make them change their attitudes and behaviour to surprise us.I write around my endless observations.
What are you working on now?
My mother with her more adventurous books. M. Howe. Ian Fleming with his adventure series and MC Beaton with her humour and sleuthing in the Agatha Raisin series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have got others to do the marketing and it's extremely varied. Interviews that I put on my website and can share, Amazon, Inkitt, and present publishers Daisyblue do an amazing and varied amount too long to mention.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never, ever give up. Write for yourself and if you can sell some books too, it's a bonus. Once you get a book published you will probably get many offers from people who want to help market your book for a fee. Check out their success, their location, compare prices and bargain. They have to make a living so don't be too mean but if you took everyone at their word it would cost thousands of dollars. If possible, get an agent. That's luxury.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
None – sadly. Wish someone had.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am considering what comes next – maybe back to Spain and the resort that my heroine's uncle owns or maybe Malta to a luxury yacht that he also owns. Murder, mystery and humour will abound. I will probably re-introduce previous characters who enrich the story, then I have to introduce quirky characters a delight in their own right.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I have just finished book four in my series Azalea and I. It's set in an English stately home in the English Lake District my old stamping ground.
