Interview With Author Sameer Khan Brohi
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Storytelling is my core-chemical-element. So much so that my dormitory-mates in boarding school blabbered that I solely missed dinner at our colonial mess cabin because I was busy reading my novels.
When I was 18, I wrote my first book, Irum Coaching Centre, a literary-fiction. Over the years, I just kept scribbling letters to books so far getting me a streak of 5 books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Jareer and the Chocolate Factory. Whenever anything eye-catching stuff happens around me, I just go into Shakespearean mode. I non-stop watch films, read novels and talk to people and then ultimately I end up having bunch of junk-fiction in my Word. The ones that makes my head into a spinning Kathmandu, that’s when I decide to put them out. This is what has led to the creation of my latest novel, which is YA but explores the depths of forced conversion of religion, peer-pressure, and poverty.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I definitely have some weird writing habits, including drafting in handwriting before using Mac, taking notes on my phone in Central Park to grab grapes of notions, and maintaining a "trunk full of cashmere"—a repository of notes on life's ewww and ohh. My process is wavy, often writing the end of stories last.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am heavily influenced by fiction authors like Dan Brown, Stephen King, and Ruskin Bond, shaping my POV to "dedication". My reading tastes range from dark humor and contemporary fiction to literary fiction and every other book with a nice cover. And horrible humor.
What are you working on now?
As of now, I am focusing on my career as an author, having recently released Jareer And The Chocolate Factory, I am taking a tiny break. Following a move to the Monroe University for a Bachelor’s in Health Sciences, I will continue to write, educate, and advocate for pen, books and literature. And of course science as well.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use my Medium platform, Substack, and X.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yup, The "trash-puke" Draft. I advise new writers to force themselves to finish a first draft, no matter how bad they think it is. My philosophy is that you can fix a "terrible" page of words, but you cannot fix a blank one.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best piece of advice I got is from my mother. I recall her mother telling me to treat my problems like helium balloons, to simply take them lightly and let them go.

The Evenings By Gerard Reve.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am brainstorming a new story. I describe it as a "brand spanking high-school YA" that I will be starting from scratch after this mini-break of the new release.
