Interview With Author Steven Hauer
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Steven A. Hauer, and I am the author of One Inch Between Life and Death, a true story inspired by a life changing accident and the journey that followed. I write about faith, perseverance, healing, and finding purpose through hardship. I have currently written one book, and it is deeply personal because it shares my own experience of survival, recovery, and how that moment shaped the direction of my life.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is One Inch Between Life and Death, Updated and Revised Second Edition. It was inspired by a traumatic accident I survived as a teenager in rural Minnesota, and by everything that happened afterward. I wanted to share not only the moment that changed my life, but also the deeper story of recovery, faith, personal growth, and the purpose that can come from pain. My hope is that readers will see that even the hardest experiences can lead to strength, healing, and hope.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Because this story is so personal, I often write by reflecting deeply on real memories, emotions, and lessons I have carried for years. I tend to focus less on fancy routines and more on honesty, clarity, and making sure the message feels real. When I write, I want readers to feel like they are walking through the experience with me and taking something meaningful away from it.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am drawn to books and writers who tell the truth about hardship, faith, perseverance, and the human spirit. I appreciate stories that are honest, heartfelt, and rooted in real life. I have always connected most with books that leave the reader with hope, perspective, and a deeper sense of purpose.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am focused on continuing to share One Inch Between Life and Death with more readers and reaching people who connect with true stories of faith, healing, and perseverance. I am also exploring future writing ideas that build on real life experiences, personal growth, and overcoming hardship.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method for promoting my book is sharing the heart behind the story in a genuine way. I have found that personal connection works better than hard selling. My website and social media help me connect with readers, but word of mouth, reader conversations, and sharing the deeper message of the book have been the most meaningful forms of promotion.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is to stay honest, stay patient, and do not give up on your story. Write the book that matters to you, not just the one you think people expect. Learn as you go, keep improving, and understand that writing the book is only part of the journey. Believing in the value of your message matters just as much.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have ever heard is to keep going, even when progress feels slow. Small steps still move you forward. In writing, in healing, and in life, persistence matters more than perfection.
What are you reading now?
I enjoy reading books that encourage faith, personal growth, resilience, and real life transformation. I am especially drawn to stories and messages that offer hope, strength, and a meaningful perspective on life.
What’s next for you as a writer?
What is next for me as a writer is continuing to grow as an author, reach more readers, and build on the message behind my first book. I want to keep creating work that encourages people through real life struggles and points them toward hope, healing, and purpose.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would want books that offer strength, wisdom, hope, and something meaningful to reflect on over time. I would likely bring a faith based book, an inspiring true story, a book on personal growth, and one classic book I could return to again and again.
