About Surviving 1963 Volume One by Elaine Brown
Set in rural Florida, Surviving 1963 (Volume One) is a raw, powerful memoir following eight-year-old Elaine as she navigates extreme poverty, hunger, and profound isolation. While facing bullies, she finds no refuge at home, where she and her brother care for their bedridden father, 1st Lt. Morris C. Brown, a former WWII undercover spy and Camp X graduate broken by severe, terrifying flashbacks. As financial desperation forces their mother into grueling work, the children struggle to survive, occasionally resorting to desperate measures to get by, sustained only by the kindness of a local storeowner. This authentic, historical nonfiction series illuminates the hidden, generational toll of combat trauma on military families. Driven by a mission to help others, 100% of the book proceeds are donated to stock the shelves at Lincoln’s Promise Food Pantry at the Coatesville VA Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
