Interview With Author Susan Brooks
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an author and self publisher of 2 series with a total of 14 book. My genre is Cozy Mysteries. I have been writing for the last 3 years. I graduated from The Ohio State University in Art Education and taught Art for many years along with running a 5013c for artists. I have also been teaching yoga for 25 years and ran my own studio.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is A Five Star Murder in my Kat Calloway Cozy Mystery Series. Kat and her boyfriend decide to take a spring vacation to NYC where he had planned for them to visit as many famous restuarants and tourist attractions. And of course their vacation gets hijacked with a murder and kidnapping.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I learned quite along time ago to think about the reader and what would they like to read about.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oh gosh, there are so many. Simone Stier, Tonya Kappes, Vivien Chen.
What are you working on now?
The next installment of my Kat Calloway series. The next book is Cinco de Mayhem and its about my characters entering a Taco Cooking Competition for Cinco de Mayo.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have an email list that I have built up to 5600 subscribers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Research! Do your homework. Read, watch and study and do it again and again.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Follow your heart.
What are you reading now?
My latest book about to be released. (editing)
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have also been thinking about getting into lower content (adult coloring books) since my degrees are in art and maybe connect them to my cozy mysteries.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Good question! It would probably be some psychological thrillers from Frieda McFadden. She is such a great writer.
