Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written over 30 books for Harlequin’s medical line, plus two nonfiction books. My latest book Cornerstone of Love is my first indy book. I will have two more in the series.
I live in north Georgia with my husband of over 37 years. We have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. I love to travel, sew and of course read.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Cornerstone of Love is the name of my latest book. I arrived at the name because the heroine, Allison is a constructional engineer. The cornerstone is important in a building. If it is off nothing in the building will be correct. It is the same with love. You have to have the correct foundation to make it work.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write character driven books but I usually start with the setting. I ask myself what could happen here. What characters would or wouldn’t like it here?
For some reason my writing process seems to go slightly different with every book.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Linda Howard’s books, Katherine Woodiwiss writing, Carol Burnside, and many more.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on another Harlequin medical story and the second in Modern Masters of Their Castles series. The first book takes place in north Alabama during Christmas. It should be out this year. The second will be out in May.
To say I’m busy is an understatement.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website www.SusanCarlisle.com is the best place to go to find out more about me and my books. All you would ever want to know can be found there.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Finish the book and write another. Without doing so you never have a book. The best two words in a writer’s life is The End.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading Baby, Come Home by Stephanie Bond. She is a great writer. I’m proud to call her friend.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Write another book, and another, and another…
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Shanna and Wolf and Dove by Woodiwiss and Best of Europe travel guide by Rick Steves.
