World-famous movie star, Zoe Martine is murdered in a robbery gone bad. Local detectives Cole Trane and Mollie Simmons, once lovers, now partners, draw the case.
A case that’s tough not just because the whole world is watching, but because there are no suspects. Her assistant, Zak, is innocent. The man she was having an affair with has an airtight alibi: he was with his wife and kids. Then there’s the mystery of how did a quarter-million-dollars in haute couture dresses become confused with cash? And who told the robbers? And where are they now?
They’re on the run.
Igor, the trigger-happy Russian assassin and Vlad, his cousin, are holed up in a motel. Their only “take” from the crime was Zoe’s hundred-thousand-dollar Cartier watch, but they can’t sell it in L.A.
When Igor robs a bank, the surveillance tape of his face is on every TV channel. Zak recognizes him and calls Cole and Mollie. Russian mobster Pytor also recognizes Igor and puts a bounty on him: because Igor works for him and the man Pytor works for, super-oligarch Nikolai Voronov is going to be furious. Nikolai doesn’t like any kind of publicity. And Igor’s acts, even though it’s a labyrinth of connections back to him, is something Nikolai will crush.
Desperate and now hunted by their own, Igor and Vlad flee north for Canada where Igor has a distant cousin. They hope to sell the watch and get enough money to escape to Russia.
It’s a brutal flight. They hire a guide to get them across the border into Canada, then kill him so there’re no witnesses. When the guide’s two sons are waiting to escort them deeper into Canada, they kill them too. The vehicle they stole from the guide breaks down and they steal an expensive BMW from an exclusive country club, beating the young rich kid and an employee senseless.
Cole and Mollie are hot on their tracks, but always just a step behind. But they finally catch a break when Igor and Vlad are stopped by a rookie Mountie. They gun her down, but not before she kills Vlad.
Cole and Mollie strike a deal with Nikolai: They’ll get Igor for him, but they’ll need use of his private Gulfstream. He agrees, but also sends a second jet – with three Russians aboard; one of them Sergey, a human terminator.
Cole and Mollie are closing in on Igor. Sergey and the two Russians are closing in on Cole and Mollie, but get stopped by a RCMP patrol. Only one man drives away from that slaughter: Sergey.
Igor is desperate to reach his cousin Annuskha’s home. So are Cole and Mollie. Fortunately, they get there first. But even their careful plans run into trouble.
Because they had no idea Sergey was on their trail.
In the devastating finale, caught in a cross-fire, it is Cole and Mollie’s former intimacy as lovers that helps them make the right choices and ultimately kill Igor and then Sergey.
They fly home on Voronov’s Gulfstream, ready for their next case: take down the oligarch.

I am an award-winning and optioned screenwriter – so in my fiction I try to be a verbal camera taking you right inside the story. Whether we’re on a high-speed car chase or hunting down an assassin, we’re going to be part of the action. My goal is to have you say, “Okay, I’m going to read just one more page…”
