Thirteen-year-old, Bonnie and her two adventurous friends, Henry, and Freddie discover a secret laboratory built over 100 years ago in an underground tunnel beneath the Wardenclyffe estate of Nikola Tesla.
Inside the mysterious lab, they find a unique device invented by Tesla, called A.R.M. (Alternate Reality Machine) an electronic machine capable of accessing a portal to another dimension of the brain.
The three youths find a journal, left behind by the famous inventor, vaguely explaining how the machine works. Consumed by curiosity, Henry decides to try and activate the mechanism.
The inquisitive teens gather in a small chamber located within the lab, where they find a uniquely designed watch along with electronic headsets wired to a transponder. The kids try the headsets on and activate the machine, and without realizing what they have done, the device takes control of their minds, projecting them into another dimension of time and space.
When they awake from the effects of the device, Bonnie, Henry and Freddie find themselves in a land known as the “Realm of Eternal Magic,” a supernatural realm where legends and myths exist. The Realm is an ageless kingdom suspended in the middle ages, a time of witchcraft, sorcery, and wizardry. It is a world far removed from their reality, and they have no way of reversing the effects of A.R.M. or returning home.
Lost in a hostile land filled with magic, the teens quickly come to realize that modern conveniences such as electricity, cell phones, and computers do not exist, leaving them with no way of finding their way back home. Trapped in a world unlike theirs, Bonnie soon discovers the dangers inherent in a mythical land where dragons are commonplace, and outsiders are unwelcome. Their only chance of survival depends on the goodwill of peasants and the fellowship of four extraordinary strangers whom they meet by chance.
As the three youths search for help, they learn of an eccentric hermit, who might be able to help them return home. However, Bonnie and her friends must first find him.
The youths set out on a long journey to a mountain cave, where the mysterious recluse is said to live. Unbeknownst to them, danger lurks at every turn as they travel through the dark forest of the forbidden zone, a domain ruled by a wicked sorceress.
In their quest for help, they must overcome deadly creatures, evil beings, and escape the cold clutches of the undead before ever reaching the hermit. Their journey is long and perilous, and the outcome unsure. Hope and friendship are their only weapons, and home is rapidly becoming a painful memory of a lost world, their world, somewhere in another dimension.
