About Welcome to Humanity: A Psychiatrist’s Memoir and Case Against the Mental Health System by Fred R Moss MD
After 37 years as a board-certified psychiatrist and over 30,000 patients, Fred Moss arrived at a conclusion that contradicts almost everything his profession taught him: there may be nothing wrong with you. There may never have been.
Welcome to Humanity is part memoir, part manifesto, and part love letter to every person who has ever sat across from a doctor and wondered whether something was permanently broken inside them.
It begins in 1980, when a twenty-one-year-old version of Fred walked onto a locked psychiatric ward in Pontiac, Michigan for what was supposed to be three weeks — and stayed five years. It ends on March 6, 2026, when psychiatry fired him by video call, and he felt, underneath the anxiety, something that surprised him.
Relief.
This is the book that explains why.
