Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Susan’s love of stories began before she could read or write. Her earliest childhood memories are of a make believe game she played with her sister, creating and telling an epic story inspired by a picture chosen at random from a National Geographic magazine. Susan spent her summers reading and writing sometimes serious, sometimes humorous works of fiction, imagining the worlds beyond her bedroom walls. Susan is an avid reader of literature, especially science fiction and fantasy. She loves to bring new worlds and fantasy adventures to young adults and inspire them to join her on her make believe journeys. Susan has just typed the words “The End” on the last book of the Spirit Shield Saga, which is comprised of a prequel novella entitled Soul Survivor and three full length novels Seer of Souls, Soul Sanctuary and Soul Sacrifice.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I just finished writing Soul Sacrifice, the last book of my Spirit Shield Saga, which I started writing three years ago. It feels good and also strange to complete a whole series. The process was an eye opening one, as any author can attest to. It was inspired by my love of fantasy and the death of my mother, and the inevitable questions that come up when one passes on to the next great adventure.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always write with music playing. I find that when it is quiet, I am easily distracted. I love to write out on the deck in the summertime. Smart pop is my favorite munchie and I have been known to sip on a glass of wine or two while writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Robert Jordan, JK Rowling, Terry Goodkind are some of the earlier ones, and lately VE Schwab and Brent Weeks I find entertaining.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am writing the prequel to my next series, which I plan to be a series of 12 books (yes 12!) set in a fantasy realm once again. I have entitled it “The Heart Of The Citadel” and am excited to begin it. I have some fun things planned for it and am picking up on an aspect of magic that no one has visited in a long time. Its going to be unique, that is for sure!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to promote my books on my website ( http://susanfaw.com/spirit-shield-saga/ ) because I have control over them there. Being that I am an indie author, I have more control of them on my own site.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write more books, always write more books. and start building your mailing list yesterday.
What are you reading now?
The Blood Mirror by Brent Weeks
What’s next for you as a writer?
More series and more series. More study into my mail system and learning how to work with it more effectively. Continue to build my mailing list and get the news of my books in front of as many people as possible. And network, always network.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Harry Potter Series, The Wheel of Time and Terry Goodkind.
