Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a 25-year-old writer, songwriter, poet from Newark, Delaware. I have written one children’s book only, but spend a lot of time writing on a developing sci-fi short story series I plan on turning into a novel at the end of the year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled “Can You Find A Four Leaf Clover?” and was inspired by the anniversary of my grandfather’s passing.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I cannot write while full. I usually only drink (we’ll say water for now), and light snackage but I never eat a full meal in the middle of a writing “sesh”.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was primarily influenced by Jacqueline Woodson, Maya Angelou, and even some William Shakespeare and Edgar Poe. Really, I draw inspiration daily from all forms of the written word, especially things that fall outside of my “typical genre” or my “comfort zone”.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a second children’s book that will follow a dad teaching his daughter to fish and learning he has become a feminist.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I get a lot of my better promotion through twitter and instagram. ‘Tis the age of the social media amirite?
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read and write. Read as much as you can. Inspiration to get through that deadly writer’s block comes from the most inane places sometimes. And write constantly. There’s no such thing as a bad idea. I’ve recycled things from scrapped poetry into thrilling short stories. Y’ never know.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be yourself… It sounds stupid. But it’s true.
What are you reading now?
A book entitled Compound by S. A. Bodeen
What’s next for you as a writer?
Trying to branch out more as a blogger and gritting my teeth on vlogging. Oh, and of course finally finishing that dreaded novel. I’d like to try my hand at a true romance too. The possibilities are endless.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hamlet
The Raven
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
and Lord of the Flies (just to freak myself out)
