Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Leipzig, Germany on Valentines day February 14, 1977. The most memorable event was probably to witness the 1989 uprising in my hometown, which ultimately lead to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunion of East and West Germany. Before I started writing thrillers and dystopian stories, I worked in banking, as a translator and even had a short career as a hotel receptionist. All very exciting but my passion is the one I’m doing now — writing. I love pasta and my hobbies include playing the saxophone, dogs and hiking. I live with my husband Andy in George, South Africa after moving to the Western Cape from England/Essex a few years ago. My second novel has just been published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book “The sky above” is a dystopian story and was inspired by current political events, like Trump’s presidency, the Brexit and the 2015 immigration wave in Europe.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to eat jellies whilst writing, not sure if that is unusual.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been influenced by lots of authors because I like variety and don’t stick to one genre. For a while Stephen King and Jodie Picoult used to be favorites of mine but currently I read a lot of unknown authors in exchange for reviews. That’s quite good fun.
What are you working on now?
I’m working a sequel to my first novel “Layers”.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That’s a difficult one, as I don’t know what ultimately leads to sales. But I would say, Facebook ads.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, don’t give up but you can have a break.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There’s a space for everyone but yours might not be where you think it is.
What are you reading now?
One Last Prayer for the Rays by Wes Markin
What’s next for you as a writer?
I will concentrate on my next project which hasn’t even got a title yet. But I’m sure it will be fun and I’ll might hang around at the Knysna literary festival in March 2020.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Twilight ( I know, I know – but I love it)
It by Stephen King
A book about survival on a desert island (still need to find that one)
The Man Who Saw Everything by Deborah Levy because I haven’t read it yet
