Interview With Author Adina D. Grey
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an Italian romance author, born and raised in amazing Italy, but honestly, my heart belongs to the US. I’ve always said I’m an author with an Italian mind and an American heart. Romance is something I’ve always loved and here I am, writing them. So far, I’ve written over twenty books but published seven books in different tropes and spice levels.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest published book is called ‘In a heartbeat’. It’s a spicy insta-love, small-town, firefighter romance with a pinch of suspense. I went on vacation with my family and the beauty of the lake and the vibe it sent worked magic. Each book I write has a piece of me, of my own experience and places I’ve been. In a Heartbeat, we’ll see this small town (Fictional) but a real one in New Hampshire inspired me. I’m in love with it and one of the states of the US I’d love to live in.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think we can call them unusual writing habits, but I like to have some music in the background. Depends on the trope I’m working on. If it’s a rock star romance, then I’ll go with rock. I must admit I’m starting to love it. A fun fact is if the main character of my book is playing some instruments or is the lead singer, my brain isolates just that specific sound. It’s like finding yourself in a different dimension.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m a book addict, and that’s why along with my passion for writing I also run a blog called Books Charm Book Blog where I share, read, and review Indie authors’ books. I had the pleasure to work and discover many talented authors such as Lizzie James, HL Packer, Alice La Roux, C.N Marie – just to name a few – but also Jillian Dodd, Emma Chase, and I could go on and on forever. I devour absolutely everything, and their books influence me in a way.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on my first solo rock star series I’ll release this year through Skye High Publishing. Signing up with them pumped my creativity so much and I have to admit Shandi Boyes and Meredith Green are absolutely the best ones to work with.
The Devil Sides series has as Main Characters the members of the band, and in each book you’ll get to know them better, walk in their shoes and see what they are up to. You can’t avoid falling in love with them. Each book has a different heat level, and they are standalone but at the same time interconnected. Think of them as a big family you’ll find throughout the series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method when it comes to promoting is doing it yourself with your own Tribe, as I call them, and finding great websites in your niche that can help you reach the right audience for you.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’ll say what I’ve been told: Keep going and trust your gut. You can’t please everyone but as long as you love and enjoy what you write then don’t stop and your talent will shine. My advice is to always have a cheat sheet with notes for each story you’ll work on. Trust me, it’ll save you a headache when you realize you’ve switched your characters’ manes halfway through your manuscript.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I’ve been told to write what I love and never force myself to write something out my comfort zone. I admit it’s true. We have to read our manuscript so many times that at the end of the process, we have it memorized. And of course, try to be as accurate as you can be during your research process.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading ‘Stardust in her eyes’ by Lizzie James. It’s the last book in the Stargazing world shared series and I loved each one of them. I told you I’m an avid reader. Have you ever heard that saying: Don’t judge a book by its cover? I’m that kind of reader. If a book has a great eye-catching cover, then it ends on my TBR list, and I finish my TBR every year!
What’s next for you as a writer?
That’s a tricky question. My husband always says I’m stubborn and nothing stops me. I’m an Aries, of course, I am stubborn and I’m aiming high. Mine is a challenge against me. Each time I want something more. I’d love for every romance reader to read my books and walk into my world.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh, that’s easy. I just need my tablet I use as a kindle since I have tons of books in there and my solar charger. *Devil laugh* why do I have to choose when technology offers me a great escape and since there is a fantastic provider who can reach every place on the earth with a great internet connection, I can use that precious time to write too. That’d be heaven! Where do I have to sign up for that vacation?
