Interview With Author Ahmed Mohamed
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a medical student at Mansoura University with a strong passion for personal development and self-improvement. Beyond studying medicine, I am deeply interested in mindset, productivity, and helping students unlock their full potential.
My writing focuses on building discipline, clarity, and consistency — especially for ambitious students who want to achieve more without feeling overwhelmed. Writing is not just a hobby for me; it is a mission to inspire others to think differently, work smarter, and grow both academically and personally.
So far, I have written one book centered on mindset and productivity, and I am currently working on expanding my ideas into future projects that empower students to take control of their goals and their lives.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled “Before Anything Changes.”
This book was inspired by my personal journey as a medical student and the challenges I experienced along the way. I realized that many students are not struggling because they lack intelligence, but because they lack the right mindset and productive habits.
Through this book, I wanted to show that real change does not start with circumstances — it starts from within. I aimed to create a practical and motivating guide that helps students shift their mindset, build discipline, and take control of their time, goals, and future.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I do have a few unusual writing habits. I prefer writing early in the morning, especially after Fajr prayer, when my mind feels clear and focused. I also like to outline my ideas in simple bullet points before turning them into full paragraphs.
Another habit I have is rewriting sentences multiple times until they sound clear, powerful, and easy to understand. I believe simplicity is strength, so I always challenge myself to explain ideas in the most direct and practical way possible.
Sometimes, I also step away from my desk to think deeply before continuing, because I believe good writing comes from reflection, not just typing
What authors, or books have influenced you?
One of the most influential books in my journey has been Atomic Habits by James Clear. The book deeply shaped the way I think about success, discipline, and long-term growth. I was inspired by the idea that small, consistent improvements can lead to remarkable results over time. James Clear’s practical framework for building good habits and breaking bad ones strongly influenced my writing about mindset and productivity. His approach to focusing on systems instead of goals changed the way I structure both my life and my work
What are you working on now?
Currently, I am building my presence on Substack, where I share insights about mindset, productivity, and student growth. My goal is to grow a strong and engaged audience by providing valuable, practical content that helps students become more disciplined and focused. I am working consistently on expanding my readership and creating meaningful content that inspires action, not just motivation.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I believe the best method for promoting my books is content-driven marketing. Instead of directly selling, I focus on providing value through educational posts, newsletters, and social media content that reflects the core ideas of my book. Platforms like Substack and social media allow me to build trust with my audience first. When people connect with the ideas and see real value, promoting the book becomes natural and authentic rather than forced.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is simple: focus on consistency, not perfection. Start writing before you feel fully ready, and allow yourself to improve along the way. Don’t chase validation — chase growth. Build your skills, refine your ideas, and most importantly, write regularly. Writing is not about inspiration alone; it is about discipline. If you stay consistent, clarity and confidence will follow
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have ever heard is: “Focus on systems, not goals.”
This idea completely changed the way I approach productivity and success. Goals give direction, but systems create progress. When you improve your daily habits and routines, success becomes a natural result rather than a constant struggle
What are you reading now?
Currently, I am reading books related to mindset, productivity, and self-development. I focus on practical books that offer actionable strategies rather than just theory. I enjoy reading works that challenge the way I think and help me become more disciplined, focused, and intentional in both my academic and personal life.
What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next for me as a writer is expanding my impact. I plan to grow my audience on Substack and continue building a strong community around mindset and productivity. I also aim to write more in-depth content, possibly a second book that focuses on discipline and high performance for students. My long-term goal is to create work that doesn’t just motivate people temporarily, but actually changes the way they think and live
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on a desert island, I would bring:
Atomic Habits by James Clear — because it constantly reminds me that small actions create big results.
Deep Work by Cal Newport — to help me value focus and eliminate distractions.
The Qur’an — for spiritual strength, reflection, and guidance.
Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl — because it teaches resilience and finding purpose even in difficult circumstances.
These books would help me stay disciplined, focused, spiritually grounded, and mentally strong — even on a desert island
