Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m the father of four girls and have worked most of my business career in the Casino Gaming industry. I turned to writing so I could tell people about the history of Nevada gaming. I’ve written four books in that non-fiction area and several novels.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, “Getting Thin is Murder,” is set in Southern California. I love baseball, and I love the sand, the beaches, and reading murder mysteries, so the book is about an ex-ballplayer.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No unusual habits since I gave up using crayons.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think the first book that really turned my screws was “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and then Stephen King’s “On Writing,” which really got me thinking about being a writer.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on walking since I dislocated my hip. Writing-wise, I’ve finished three Ghostwritten books so far this year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Getting bang for your buck is tough these days. Bookbub is great, but it’s either a promotion or a downpayment on a car! Using quality sites like Awesome Gang is great for an author on a budget who needs results.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Practice – practice – practice. Write articles, blogs, short stories and then give a book-length project a chance.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just throw out what isn’t part of the story.
What are you reading now?
I just read “The Whistler” by John Grisham.
What’s next for you as a writer?
The second installment of “Getting Thin is Murder.”
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, a dictionary, and maybe a couple Jack Reacher stories.
