Interview With Author AL Tran
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Throughout my life, I have always harbored a great desire to write a book. This aspiration was fueled by the fact that my grandfather was the principal of a school on an island in Vietnam, and my parents, uncle, and aunt were all teachers. Even my Vietnamese name is supposed to mean “number one in literature.” However, I wasn’t sure where to begin until recently. I hope to keep writing more books in the future.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Gerry The Likable: Story of Cyberbullying is my latest book. My decision to write this book stems from the alarming rise of cyberbullying among children in the digital era. Regrettably, this topic remains relatively unexplored. I was deeply affected upon learning about a tragic incident in which a child succumbed to the pressures of online bullying, ultimately leading to her suicide. By addressing this pressing issue through my book, I aspire to illuminate this challenge and foster greater awareness.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing habits resemble more of a collection of bad habits rather than unusual ones. When an idea captivates my imagination, I leave my seat excitedly and walk throughout the house before finally returning to my desk to resume writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Robert Kiyosaki is the author who has greatly influenced me. Prior to reading his book, I was unsure about my direction in life. However, upon reading “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, I discovered a newfound sense of purpose and determination to transform myself into a better person.
What are you working on now?
Currently, my primary focus revolves around developing my website and crafting numerous activity books that are freely available for individuals of all ages.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Currently, I am experiencing the challenges of self-publishing, and although I haven’t experienced substantial sales yet, I remain focused in pursuit of reaching my goals. Running Amazon ads is one strategy I’m employing at the moment. Despite the difficulties, I am determined to persist and continue putting in the effort required to achieve success.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
As a new author myself, I can’t offer much advice, but I strongly believe in not giving up. The path to success in writing can be challenging. Keep learning, improving, and nurturing your passion.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“You only fail if you give up.”
What are you reading now?
Currently, I am exclusively focusing on listening to podcasts about self-publishing and have temporarily set aside reading.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am planning to release several more books soon, as a means to explore different genres and determine which ones align best with my strengths. From there, I will gauge the response and adapt my writing accordingly.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I were stranded on an island, I would prioritize taking a survival guidebook to learn essential skills and increase my chances of survival. However, since I am not currently in such a situation, I haven’t had the need for those types of books.
