Interview With Author Alex Kecskes
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a regular contributor to several print and online magazines. I interview film talent for Hollywood Weekly. I’ve written on a wide variety of topics, including health, medical science, technology, and green issues. I immigrated to America as a child with my nurse mother and artist father. I am a graduate of Long Beach State University and live in San Diego, CA. I am the proud father of two sons and three grandchildren.
“My main focus is creating classic romance novels that unite various genres.” I love historical romance shows like The Gilded Age, Poldark and Downton Abbey.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Healer a Novel” was inspired by the TV show my wife and I used to watch–Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. I toyed with the idea of a handsome doctor from the future coming to the rescue of a young medical student struggling to survive in 1880s America. A woman who had a number of personal issues to overcome while trying to help children working in a Tennessee mining town.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write in the morning till about noon. Then let it dwell the rest of the day until after dinner. Then I go back and edit.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Nurse’s Secret by Amanda Skenandore
An American Beauty by Shana Abe
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
What are you working on now?
I just finished the sequel to Healer (it ended in a cliffhanger and readers were screaming at me, wanting to know what happened to Rene Sakin). It’s titled “The Search for Dr. Noble” and should be available on Amazon in October ’25.
I’m also in the middle of a third novel titled “Starbound” about an autistic, stuttering female server in Nazca, Peru, who we learn is connected to the stars. It’s a love story between her and a science journalist who recently lost his wife to cancer.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I send people to my website and provide a link to Amazon, where KindleUnlimited members can get Healer for FREE. I’ve also created six video trailers for Healer, which can be found on all my social media.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Grind out that first novel—no matter how bad you think it is. Just get it out of your system. Then edit at least six to 10 times until you know the story inside and out.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I had a brown bag lunch with Ray Bradbury and he said to fall in love with your characters and let them talk to you.
What are you reading now?
Nothing now. Too busy with my new novel.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Finish Starbound. And find a good book-to-film agent for Healer.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Virginia Woolf
E. Hemingway
Philip K. Dick
Arthur C. Clarke
