Interview With Author Alicia Lloyd
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written three books, ‘Murder Board’, ‘A Race Against Death’ and ‘Believe Me’, two being mystery thrillers, one being literary fiction. I am a 16 year old self published author who has struggled with OCD, tics, anxiety, depression and has autism, all of this inspires my work and allows me to empathise with my characters and gather authenticity, writing and reading has always been an escape and I want to share that with others.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
‘Believe Me’ and struggles with emotional abuse and tics in my own life inspired it, to me it was a way of getting out emotions that put me into a depression, and to help others feel less alone. My ambition to write and help others influenced the making of the book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I know of, my process is mostly average, other than I suppose writing drafts in public in random notebooks to retain ideas when I don’t have access to my laptop, I write anywhere, I also write poetry that influences my final novels.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Charles Dickens’ book ‘Great Expectations’, Holly Jackson’s ‘A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder Series’, Kathryn Foxfield’s ‘Getting Away With Murder’, and Sarah Crossan’s ‘Moonrise’ have influenced and inspired me and my work.
What are you working on now?
Two books actually, a childrens novel, ‘Perri’, the first in a series, and the sequel to my published book, ‘Murder Board’, each, a pleasure to write.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method is social media, I post on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, TikTok and Linkedin. I post on these frequently to get my book out there.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
To write at your own pace and write what you want, write your passion.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To follow your heart and own instinct.
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading ‘Five Survive’ by Holly Jackson.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Ideally getting my book in physical book stores, that’s the next dream, I don’t know if it’ll ever happen, but I hope so.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d take, ‘As Good As Dead’ by Holly Jackson’, ‘We Are All Made Of Molecules’ by Susin Nielsen, and ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens.
