Interview With Author Alicia Stonecastle
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
First of all, thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts with you. It is truly a pleasure to be here. My day job is in technology, where I’ve worked as a leader in operations and implementations for many years. But beyond the spreadsheets and systems, I’ve always had a deep love for art, history and crafts.
Even with a busy career, I carried a quiet passion for storytelling–one that lingered for decades. I would jot down ideas, imagine characters, and dream about writing a book “someday.” Eventually, I realized it was time to stop waiting and start creating. That decision led to my first published work, and I hope it’s the beginning of many more stories to come.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is The Kingdom That Never Existed. It was inspired by my nine-year-old daughter, who insisted she wanted a pet–specifically, a puppy. I wasn’t ready to take on the responsibility, and one day while parked outside a pet store, she brought it up again. Half-joking, I told her we could get a mosquito instead. She crossed her arms, gave me a disapproving look, and told me I was weird. I laughed–and that was the spark. The idea grew into a whimsical story about an imaginary kingdom, a royal mosquito, and the quirky, magical adventures that follow. it’s a tribute to imagination, unexpected inspiration, and the joyful weirdness that makes family special.
. One day we parked at a pet store and she brought it up again, I responded with getting her a pet mosquito to see her reaction, she crossed her arms and told me I was weird. I laughed.
That is how this book was born, a pet mosquito, a princess and a magical world. I wanted a world that didn’t exist but it had similar historical elements to our world, but what if the mountains are pink and the fountains are upside down. How would that world look like, what If the antagonist was an elegant evil queen that is as likable as the hero?
