Interview With Author Alisha Jackson
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Ms. Alisha Jackson, a passionate writer, speaker, and a Master Leveled social worker who believes in the power of healing, hope, and personal transformation. My mission is to empower individuals—especially those who feel overlooked or forgotten—by guiding them toward emotional wellness and spiritual growth. I draw from my own life experiences, including my journey through foster care and group homes, to help others find their strength and purpose through faith and resilience.
As a writer, I focus on books that offer encouragement and practical tools for overcoming emotional and spiritual challenges. As of today, I’ve written several works designed to uplift, motivate, and inspire:
1. I AM A Divine Warrior
2. The Forgiveness Prayer Guide
3. The Ultimate Emotional Healing eGuide
4. Overlooked to Overflow: How God Elevates the Forgotten
Each book reflects a piece of my heart, aiming to equip readers with the wisdom and confidence they need to move forward in their journey of healing and growth. My goal is to create resources that are not only insightful but also deeply transformative, helping individuals reclaim their purpose and walk in the fullness of what God has planned for them.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is Overlooked to Overflow: How God Elevates the Forgotten. This book is deeply inspired by my own personal experiences and the promises that God has spoken to His children. Growing up in foster care and group homes, I often felt unseen, overlooked, and forgotten—but through those struggles, God showed me that even in our most hidden moments, He is working behind the scenes.
The inspiration for Overlooked to Overflow came from my journey of learning to trust in God’s timing and understanding that He doesn’t forget about us. There are seasons where we may feel like we’re not being seen, but God sees us exactly where we are, and He has a plan to elevate us in ways we can’t always imagine. I wanted to share this message with others—especially those who might feel like they’re stuck in the shadows. God’s promises of elevation and purpose are for all of us, even when it seems like no one is watching.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t necessarily call them unusual, but I do have a few habits that might seem different to others. For one, I don’t have a set writing schedule. Instead, I write when the inspiration strikes or when God places something on my heart. Sometimes it’s late at night when the world is quiet, or early in the morning when the day feels fresh and new. I’ve learned not to force the words but to let them flow when the time feels right.
Another habit I have is journaling before I start writing my books. I write down my thoughts, prayers, and reflections, allowing myself to connect with the emotions or messages I want to convey. It’s a way for me to get grounded before I dive into a larger project. I also sometimes write from a place of stillness—just sitting in silence and allowing the words to come without distraction. It helps me stay connected to the heart of what I’m writing and reminds me of my purpose as a writer.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been deeply influenced by several authors who have shaped my perspective on faith, personal growth, and healing. Some of the key voices that have impacted me include:
Tony Evans – His powerful teachings on faith, leadership, and God’s purpose for our lives have inspired me to write with boldness and conviction.
Shannon Evette – Her work on emotional healing and personal transformation has really resonated with me as I walk alongside others in their journeys of growth.
RC Blakes – His wisdom on relationships and purpose has helped me in understanding the importance of self-worth and walking in the calling God has placed on my life.
Tony Gaskins – His insights into personal development and relationships have encouraged me to approach my writing with authenticity and empowerment.
But above all, the Bible is the most influential book in my life. It’s my ultimate source of wisdom, guidance, and truth. Everything I write is rooted in the lessons and promises I find within its pages. God’s word is where I draw my strength and inspiration from, and it always guides me in sharing His messages of hope and healing.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m excited to be expanding my creative work in a few new directions. I’m currently working on releasing more eBooks and paperback editions to continue offering encouragement and healing through accessible formats. I’m also developing coloring books for both adults and children—because sometimes healing and reflection happen best through creativity and calm moments.
One of the projects closest to my heart is my very first children’s books. These stories are being written especially for children who have faced challenges—those who need to know they are strong, valuable, and deeply loved. My hope is to inspire them with messages of resilience, faith, and self-worth, and to create something I wish I had growing up. I believe when we reach children early with love and encouragement, we help shape their future in powerful ways.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Right now, my favorite method for promoting my book is word of mouth. I truly believe that when people connect with a message, they share it with others, and there’s nothing more powerful than genuine, personal recommendations. It’s been amazing to see how readers who are touched by my work spread the word to their friends and family.
That said, I’m always open to learning new methods as I continue to grow as an author. I believe in the power of community, both online and offline, and I’m eager to explore new ways to connect with people who might benefit from my message. Whether it’s through social media, book clubs, or collaborations, I’m excited to continue expanding my reach and finding fresh ways to serve others through my writing.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors is this: Allow God to lead the way, and trust His timing. Writing a book—especially one that carries purpose and healing—is not just about putting words on a page; it’s about being a vessel. There will be moments when the process feels slow or uncertain, but don’t lose hope. Keep building, keep writing, and keep showing up—even when no one sees it yet.
Your gift is not just for you. God will use what you create to reach the hearts that need it most, in His perfect time. So trust that every step, every delay, every revision, and even every moment of doubt is part of something bigger. Surrender the outcome and believe that God will align your work with the right people—those who are waiting for exactly what He placed in you to give. Just stay faithful, stay rooted, and let God do the rest.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever been given is simple, but it’s stayed with me through every season: Be patient with the process. It’s something I’ve had to live, not just learn. Coming from a background where life moved unpredictably and control often felt out of reach, I used to feel like I had to fight for every next step. But over time, I’ve realized that growth, healing, and even purpose take time—and rushing them can actually delay what God is trying to build in you.
That advice helped me stop striving and start trusting. It taught me that even when things feel slow or hidden, something meaningful is still happening beneath the surface. Now, I pass that same encouragement on to others: you don’t have to force what’s meant for you. Trust the timing, trust the stretching, and trust that what’s being developed in private will one day overflow in public.
What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m reading the Bible—and honestly, it’s something I’m always rereading. No matter how many times I return to it, I continue to find new layers of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that apply directly to where I am in life. It’s not just a book to me—it’s a living guide, a source of strength, and the ultimate blueprint.
What I love most is how God speaks so personally through it. It’s like He tailors each word to exactly what I need in that season—whether I’m seeking clarity, peace, encouragement, or direction. For me, there’s no better source of truth, and I’ve learned to lean into it not just for inspiration as a writer, but for alignment as a woman, leader, and servant.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, I’m always looking toward the next step in expanding my impact. Right now, one exciting possibility on the horizon is exploring the world of film. I believe that stories have the power to move people in unique ways, and I want to reach a broader, global audience by bringing my messages of hope, resilience, and faith to the screen. Whether it’s through short films, documentaries, or full-length features, I’m excited about the potential to share these life-changing lessons in a new and powerful format.
Ultimately, my goal is to continue reaching hearts, encouraging transformation, and creating content that speaks to people in ways they can truly relate to—no matter where they are or where they come from. I’m open to where God leads me, and I’m excited to see how my writing journey unfolds next!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a great question! First and foremost, I’d bring the Bible—it’s my anchor, my source of peace, wisdom, and strength. In a situation like that, I’d need spiritual guidance more than ever. Second, I’d bring one of my own books, as a reminder of what God has brought me through. It would help keep me encouraged and focused on His promises, even in isolation.
Third, I’d definitely want a practical survival guide—something that teaches me how to find water, build shelter, gather food, and maintain basic hygiene in a desert environment. And finally, I’d bring a book on sailing or boat-building—because I wouldn’t want to stay stranded forever! I’d want to learn how to safely build a way out and navigate to the nearest land, using whatever resources I could find.
Faith, encouragement, survival, and escape—those would be my four essentials!
