Interview With Author Allen Ansel
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As of Spring 2025, I just published my debut novel. I’m getting close to finishing it’s sequel!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Aquila Rising: Part 1 of the Draconis Series.
There’s a lot of tension right now in our society. Wealth is amassing in fewer and fewer hands, while everyone else is left to fight for the scraps. Aquila Rising delves the reader into a world full of tension with a rebellion fighting for freedom. World-wise, it was inspired by the grit of “The Expanse” and the constant fast-paced action of “Battlestar Galactica” and
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m busy! I have a toddler and a second kid on the way. I also work a 40 hours-per-week day job, so most days, I only write for 30-45 minutes, usually before bed.
It’s amazing what you can get done with a habit, as long as I write everyday, my progress feels really strong.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
More than anything, I really love the multi-point-of-view perspective from “The Expanse” and “Game of Thrones”. They’re some of my favorite series, but I think they have a flair for being too long winded, so I set out to write more concise books that keep the reader wondering what’s going to happen.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on Part 2 of the Draconis Series, it follows Lewis Falco and Obsidian as they continue their fight against Draconis. Part 3 is planned as the final in the series, but the characters have a fond place in my head, so I won’t rule out more sequels.
I have a couple, fun ideas for standalone books that I’m really itching to write as well.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m brand spanking new to this! Facebook has helped me the most, but I’m looking for more options!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write everyday, even if you don’t “have the time” set down your phone and write. It’s freeing and even 20 minutes EVERY day can add up to a book!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write every day!
What are you reading now?
Foundation by Isaac Asimov, A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin and To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a fun twist for a zombie thriller in a world that I haven’t seen used yet. It’s going to be fun!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Lord of the Rings, especially when it’s all three books. It’s a masterpiece that I can read over and over. Project Hail Mary, easily my favorite Sci-Fi. If you haven’t read it, add it to the top of your list!
The practical side of me makes me think I’d need a book about survival on a desert island, boring!
