Interview With Author Alvin Hayes
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired sales and marketing executive who enjoys
the challenge of writing Historical Fiction novels about the
African American “while-black” experience.
I have self published two novels.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “If The Elders Call.”
I wanted to tell a story about the whileBlack
experience beginning on the plantation because
that’s where most African Americans started. But it is not a book about slavery. It’s a story about heroes, villain’s and heroines.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have a story in mind and simply start it and it kind of just flows. I don’t know if its unusual but it works for me.

What are you working on now?
The third novel in the whileBlack Series is about the
next generation of the same family and their pursuit of a better life in the North.
The story of the great migration when 6 million African
Americans left the South. But before my family can leave
New Orleans they have to overcome some situations they were not expecting,
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Networking and handing out business cards. Promoting books is hard. Try different methods and see which works best for you.What are you reading now?
