Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Well um my name is Amere Dozier. I’m from South Bend, Indiana. I grew up on the northside of town in some apartments with my mom and little siblings. Got a lot of my story ideas from South Bend. I have 4 books out as of right now.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Bandit Boyz 2 was just released like a few weeks ago. I’m currently on tour right now for it. A lot of things I seen growing up is what inspired the entire Bandit Boyz series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know for sure. I wouldn’t know what to consider unusual but I mean I don’t know for sure man.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Growing up I would read the Bluford series and as I got older I started to lean on authors like Jaquavis Coleman and Kwan Foye. I liked all types of books growing up though. I wouldn’t consider them as influences but they taught me a lot for sure.
What are you working on now?
I have some work already finished like ready to be edited and released so I’m not necessarily working on anything right now because everything is done. With Bandit Boyz 2 just being released I have just been focusing on touring and promoting.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I write for people around the same age as me and you mostly see 20 year old on social media. So Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are big ways to promote for me. But appearances and signings are great because you’re actually face to face with the reader.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I mean I’m new to the game myself but I would say to just focus on your craft and never give up. When I released my first book ever it had typos and all. I had to save as much as I could to pay for an editor. I had people who bought the unedited version tell me to just give it up but I stayed focused and now I’m four books in.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Expect the unexpected before you expect anything”. The reason why this is good advice is because let’s say you have a friend that stabs you in the back or turns on you. That would hurt right? Not if you expected it. You can’t be surprised by anything it is what it is.
What are you reading now?
Epic by Ashley Antoinette. She did her thing in this.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Well I am almost complete with my first goal as a writer. I had a goal to release 5 books in the span of 3 years. It’s been one and some change and I already have 4 out. I hope to turn the Bandit Boyz into a tv series of some type someday though so if you know anybody who is good in that world you should send them my way.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well first off a Bible because Lord knows I’d need that since I’m stranded. Other than that um I would take “No Way Out” by Peggy Kern because I grew up on that I can read that everyday, all day. I’d take “The streets have No King” by Jaquavis Coleman. And um…”The richest man in Babylon” by George Clason.
