Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi there! My name is Amy Marie and I’m a first-time author developing a new fiction/fantasy saga. I’m about to release book two of the Statera Saga: Quintessence. I’ve lived all over the United States, but Ohio will always be my home. I’m a huge fan of all fiction, and am always looking to get lost in the relaxing escape of a good novel. I’ve worked several years for a major book retailer, and now enjoy a career in aviation as an air traffic controller. I’m a sucker for an old-fashioned good versus evil story, and the cuddles of my dog Brutus.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Quintessence is the second book of the Statera Saga. It’s the sequel to the first book Reminiscence. There is one more book in the Saga that will be released in 2018. This series was inspired by my favorite fairy tale, Beauty and the beast, but I twisted the story into an urban fantasy setting and twisted in a philosophical and metaphysical quest. I’m so happy with how the story has developed, it practically wrote itself! There is so much action, intrigue, romance, history, and mystery. It’s a perfect balance, which just so happens to be a repeated theme in the series!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love to snack on hello kitty fruit snacks and drink tea whilst writing. I can’t watch TV or listen to music because I really immerse myself into my fantasy world.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Diana Gabaldon. Her books probably set me on the path to thinking I would like to write a whole saga. But also, I’ve mirrored my style of Chanda Hahn because I love fairy tales. But most of all, I’m doing my best to develop my writing to mimic one of my favorite writers and friend Raymond St. Elmo, his novels read like poetry.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on book three of the Statera Saga while also developing a few side projects/novellas revolving around the series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do my best to promote my books wherever anyone will listen to me! I have active Twitter, Facebook, Instagram accounts as well as my own website and blog. My book release events are generally on Facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My honest advice is to find a handful of your favorite authors and try to mirror their professional practices. When you keep moving forward pretending like you know what you’re doing, one day you might just realize that you’re doing things right!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t Quit.
What are you reading now?
Currently reading The Origin of Birds in the Footprints of Writing by Raymond St Elmo. I’ve read most of his books, and I’ve decided to go back and read his first. It’s not in any way disappointing!
What’s next for you as a writer?
Next, I have some ideas for a dystopian novel. I’d like to try to change things up from the Statera Saga, so I really haven’t been developing it too much until I get this first series wrapped up!
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Princess Bride (to keep my spirits up)
Outlander (in case the island has some stones I might fall through)
Pride and Prejudice (for lonely nights)
Hatchet (because hopefully it would give me some pointers on how to survive!)
