Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Well, I’m from Northeast Ohio where the weather is always interesting and ever changing. I wish I could say that I lived in a little town, full of little people, but only the first part of that statement would be true. Born, raised, and I’ve only left Ohio for grad school, I’m a Buckeye through and through. So far I’ve written four novels, and about 6 novellas/short story collections. I also write under a different pen name and have published one novel there also.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
So Sweet is my latest release. Though I’ve never actually enjoyed Romeo and Juliet, the star-crossed lovers story is one that is near and dear to my heart. Now, mesh that up with a little Beauty and the Beast, and, well, we’ve got ourselves a rose by any other name…Get it!?!? Okay, I’m a tad corny too. But So Sweet ventures into that darkness of R&J under the guise of a fairy tale retelling. I love my stories to have grit, to not always end the way we remember or expect, to be more than they started out as, and to ping with deeper emotions.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wish! That would make me sound so much cooler, but, alas, I do not. I used to write everything free hand, but…I haven’t done that in a while. Now it’s just computer time, wherever I can snatch it!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Anne Bishop. Sara Douglass. Jacqueline Carey. A little Christine Feehan. Some Garth Nix for flavor. And lets add in a bit of The Brothers Grimm for good measure!
What are you working on now?
Oh, you know, nothing fancy, just a story that begs the question: What would happen if Rumpelstiltskin met Ursula and loved Maleficent?
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m on Facebook all the time. It’s an addiction. Is there a group for that? lol. Probably. Or my website, which I’m inordinately proud of. I use Wix as a platform, but I’ve had so much fun customizing it to myself that I consider it all my own!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Decide what you are writing for as an author. Are you writing to get famous, are you writing to breathe, are you writing to inform? What? Make that call, and then write. Don’t let other focuses distract you. For me, I write to breathe. The minute I forget that, I start to flounder, and that’s when it gets tough for me.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write for yourself first, and let your audience find you.
What are you reading now?
It’s my dirty secret, but, I can’t help myself…Z. Allora has an awesome m/m rock and roll romance series, and, yeah, that’s totally what’s taking top billing on my Kindle right now. lol.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Trying to finish all the projects on my “To Write” list…there are a lot…lol.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Dark Jewels Trilogy (only counts as one because I’m not giving that up).
The Wayfarer Redemption Series (same as above…sue me!)
Mythology by Edith Hamilton (because I love me some gods and goddesses, and this is the best one to go with!)
