What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Woes of a Ginger Named Red–Book 3: New Home Holidays.
The Woes of a Ginger named Red Series is inspired by many challenges I had to personally overcome as a child. Of course, the book is a fiction so it is filled with some reality and some fictional flair, as well! Being an epileptic child is difficult and I realized there are not enough epileptic protagonists in the Middle Grade realm of fiction! Knowing a lot about the struggles from personal experience, I created Ginger for all those children who need to know other kids share their struggles.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t write unless I have a flow of ideas. I can’t just write an idea and lfow later. It has to come pouring out all at once before I start to write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Judy Blume, Dr. Suess, Laura Numeroff, Virginia Burton, & Beverly Cleary have all caused memorable influence in my book tastes and writing styles.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on illustrating a picture book called Farty Arty.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still trying to find the magical solution to best marketing practices.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Don’t doubt yourself. Write from your heart. If people in the book industry don’t like it, get it out there on your own. They are just gatekeepers and not the actual readers. They filter submissions based on their own small opinion and do not reflect the opinion of the actual entire society of real readers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Only you can control you and your future endeavors.
What’s next for you as a writer?
THe Woes of a Ginger Named Red–Book 4: The Great Summer Kick-off
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’m not a fan of beaches, flying, or travel, so the odds of me being stranded on an island are way too slip to have a plan.
