Interview With Author Antiequa Harper
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Antiequa Harper is a writer with a heart for healing, family, and faith. She draws inspiration from her own life experiences, using storytelling as a way to encourage others on their journey toward restoration. Her debut book, Healing Bonds: A Journey of Love and Redemption, is a powerful memoir that shares her personal story of overcoming addiction’s impact on her family through love, faith, and resilience.
Antiequa is also the author of Sundays at Grandma’s House, a heartfelt children’s book that celebrates family traditions and the special bond between generations. Whether writing for adults or children, her mission is to spread hope, inspire forgiveness, and remind others that healing is always possible.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Sundays at Grandma’s House, a children’s book inspired by my 6-year-old son—my firstborn and miracle child—who recently graduated from kindergarten. Watching him grow, ask questions, and connect with family in meaningful ways reminded me of the special moments I shared with my own grandmother. I wanted to create a story that celebrates family, tradition, and the simple joys of childhood through his eyes. He’s the reason I wrote this book, and it’s my love letter to the power of family bonds across generations.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes! I don’t write my books in order from the first chapter to the last. I always start with the chapter that speaks to me the most in the moment—whether it’s the middle, the end, or even a flashback. Writing this way helps me stay emotionally connected to the message I want to share and ensures I include everything that truly matters. Once those key pieces are in place, I build the rest of the story around them.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Honestly—every book ever written! I believe every story holds power, and different books speak to me at different seasons of life. I’m especially influenced by books I can relate to—whether through my own life experiences or by witnessing the journeys of those around me. Stories of resilience, faith, healing, and hope always leave a lasting impact on me, and they inspire the kind of writing I aim to share with others.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on the story of my life—digging even deeper into the experiences, lessons, and growth that have shaped who I am today. I also have a special book planned for my daughter, inspired by the unique bond we share, and I’m developing more ideas for children’s books as well. My goal is to keep telling stories that heal, inspire, and uplift—whether for adults or little ones.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Right now, I’ve been using what I have—my Facebook, Instagram, and the support of my amazing family and friends—to share my books and reach readers. I’m still exploring the best platforms and websites to promote more widely, and I’m learning as I go. I believe personal connection is powerful, and I’m trusting that the right readers will find my work as I continue to grow and expand my reach.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you have a story, write it down. Every little detail will come to you moment by moment—don’t rush it. Don’t worry about who will buy it or who will read it; just focus on telling your story honestly and fully. Support your mind and craft by doing what you love, and most importantly, keep writing. The journey is just as important as the destination
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You can do anything you put your mind to—you just have to start somewhere. Be yourself, be honest, and remember that education is key to progress. With focus and authenticity, the possibilities are endless.
What are you reading now?
I haven’t chosen a book to dive into lately because I’ve been busy with family, but I’ve been browsing plenty and plan to return to my favorite hobby of reading very soon. Books have always been a source of inspiration and comfort for me, and I’m looking forward to getting back into that rhythm.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to continue writing and nurturing my passion. I believe more children’s books are on the horizon—my son loves to read, and I firmly believe that reading is fundamental. I also aim to have my book about my life fully written and published within the next two years, so I’m ready to buckle down and make that happen. For me, anything is possible when you stay focused and believe.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d bring Chocolate Covered Forbidden Fruit by Trista Russell because of its compelling storytelling, Robert J. Crane’s The Girl in Box series for its gripping suspense, and Ferdinand the Bull—a timeless classic that reminds me of the simple joys and kindness in life. These books offer a mix of emotion, adventure, and heartwarming moments that I’d treasure on a desert island.
