What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Rolando Under the Coconut Tree and it was inspired strictly by my imagination and my eyes into the world of children. I taught elementary school for over twenty years before transferring to teach high school.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so except that I write wherever I go. even when I am listening or eating, sometimes, I am already writing the next story, whether it is for children or for adults.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Although I have also written novels, I would like to focus on the children’s side.
As for the children’s books, it would definitely be Dr. Seuss, Margaret Wise Brown, or Michael Rosen, but it would also be Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes and so many others.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on my next children’s book which should be released at the first of April 2020. I am so exciting because this is also an entrepreneurial venture for me.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think that these days Amazon is my favorite website for promoting my books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to always write -no matter what anyone says , no matter what anyone thinks, including yourself. Write what is true to your heart.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I think that the best advice I have ever been given is to write without fear and to edit without mercy.
What are you reading now?
I just finished reading Just Mercy which is an excellent book. But now I am turning my attention to How Not To Die which is a book my mother blessed me with for my birthday; she and I are on this healthy life journey together.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I think that I will continue with my childrens book line and maybe even a childrens poetry book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That is such a difficult and unfair question because I love books and I collect them. But if I could only take four, they would be The Bible, a complete collection of Maya Angelou’s work, a complete collection of Shakespeare’s work, and maybe The Color Purple. (I love Purple.)
