Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Ashley Moss was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She is the middle child of three children born to her mother, and she dearly loves her family. Ashley’s love of reading began when she learned to read at the age of four. From that point on, books and words were her friends. Her passion for writing developed when she wrote her very first poem at the age of twelve. Writing is her solace and comfort in life. Today, her love of reading and writing continues to uplift her in life. I have published one book so far.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Its title is Lessons I’ve Learned: A Collection of Love and Inspirational Poems. It was inspired by greats such as Maya Angelou and Emily Dickinson and their poetry collections.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I write, it has to be completely quiet. I can’t have any distractions around me. I also have to be surrounded by writing utensils, a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a computer.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mark Twain and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as well as J. California Cooper and her books have inspired me.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a Christian fiction short story collection that will feature twelve stories.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method of promoting my book is social media or Instagram. I find that when I share my book image or links in my story, they get a lot of attention and or views.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
To be themselves, to be authentic, to write for themselves, and to develop their own writing styles. They don’t have to write like the greats of the past to be considered good writers to others.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To put all your eggs in one basket business wise, and then keep your eye on that basket to make sure your business grows. It’s a quote by Andrew Carnegie.
What are you reading now?
Mostly magazines such as Oprah Winfrey’s magazine and Women’s Health. I also read the local newspaper.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Promoting my name and works more media wise.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Matilda by Ronald Dahl, Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.
