The latest book is titled “Thriving in Celibacy.” It was inspired by her desire to delve into the spiritual and personal growth aspects of embracing celibacy, providing insights, encouragement, and practical guidance to individuals navigating this transformative lifestyle.

I find inspiration in quiet moments of reflection and often incorporates personal experiences and observations into her writing process.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I draws inspiration from authors who explore themes of faith, resilience, and personal development. Some influential authors include Maya Angelou, Joyce Meyer, and Timothy Keller.

What are you working on now?
Promoting “Thriving in Celibacy” and engaging with readers through discussions and events.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I finds that leveraging social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, along with author websites and book promotion websites, are effective methods for reaching her audience.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I advise new authors to write from the heart, stay persistent in their efforts, and build a strong online presence to connect with readers.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have received is to write authentically and to always strive for personal growth both as a writer and as an individual.

What are you reading now?
I enjoys reading inspirational books and is currently exploring new works by spiritual and personal development authors.

As a writer, I look forward to continuing to explore themes that inspire personal growth and spiritual development in her future works.

STARFINITY – I usually write books using m perosnal experiences in life and my dreams, so yeah that inspired me to write my fiction book.

Abbie emons, she was the first author whose youtube video i watched, she is a indie self published author like me, so that inspired me to start writting also.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a writer and the founding editor of The Wise Owl, a literary and art e-magazine. I was a student of literature and was awarded scholarship by the Indian government to pursue a doctorate degree at Cambridge University. However, a capricious fate beckoned and I joined the Indian Revenue Service in 1991 instead. However, the call of the Muse was so strong that after completing 30 years of service, I put in her papers to pursue passion for writing and other creative endeavours.

I have authored five books. I started my journey as a writer with books on economic issues (‘Penny Panache: Piecing the Economic Puzzle’ (2016), ‘Financial Felicity: Making Sense of Money Matters’ (2017) and ‘The Bitcoin Saga: A Mixed Montage’ (Bloomsbury, 2019). ‘Myriad Musings’ (2016) is a collection of my published articles and travelogues. However, literature was always my first love, so with my book ‘Phoenix in Flames’, I turned to fiction.

I have also curated and edited two anthologies of poetry and short stories namely, The Repertoire & The Collectibles: Eclectic Tales of 2023 and an e-Chapbook of poetry called Ides of March.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book ‘Phoenix in Flames’ is dedicated to ordinary women, who with their defiant resilience, fortitude and courage become heroic and extraordinary.

My book is inspired by the struggles of real-life ordinary women who face adversities of life with a smile.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When writing a book , I follow three steps. I first decide on the genre and theme of my book. Once that is locked, I begin my research which takes 3-6 months. After my research is complete, I let all the information stew in my head. Then I begin the writing process. My first draft is always a raw unedited manuscript. After this I begin editing and redrafting.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As a college student I loved Shakespeare, Jane Austen and TS Eliot’s The Wasteland.

Paul Lynch , Audrey Magee and Devika rege are my current favourites.

What are you working on now?
I am working on the biography of a world-renowned photographer whose philosophy of life and dedication and passion for his craft impressed me immensely.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My book promotion entails interviews, book readings etc at literary soirees and literary Festivals. Coverage by newspapers also helps as do social-media posts.

Work. work. work

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Follow your heart

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi! I’m Bipasha, an aspiring physicist, poet, dancer and a new indie author. I am currently pursuing graduation in Physics. Writing poetry has always been my passion and I’m glad I’m finally getting to follow it!

My first poetry book was released recently and I’m so happy about it. This is the only book I’ve authored, as of now.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I recently published my first poetry book, ‘Woeful Verses: A Sad Poetry Assemblage’, which is a collection of sad poems revolving around different kinds of sorrowful emotions and having a sad touch in them. They include poems exploring sadness, depression, loneliness, death, abuse and mental and physical pain. I was inspired by my own life. You would be amused to know that I’m quite a sad person myself.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not much, but yeah, I almost ALWAYS prefer writing at a time I’m supposed to be concentrating on some other work.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
To name famous personalities, Sylvia Plath is one of my favourite poets with here sad poems. So is Robert Frost.

Keeping them aside, I’ve read work of various poets on poetry websites and social media. They keep me going.

And of course, Nature is one of my key inspirations.

What are you working on now?
Since I’ve just published my first poetry book, I’m taking a tiny bit of rest now. I’ll resume writing proactively once I’m refreshed.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Currently my best sites are Amazon itself and Instagram. I also like using Awesome Gang, AllPoetry and Threads for my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just go for it! Don’t be shy, put yourself and your book out there. Use as many different sites and methods you can afford to use for your book. And most importantly, never lose hope.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I feel lonely often a times and feel noone loves me. Once, my teacher asked me to always imagine myself, and everyone I love, to be living in a really large house. And because it’s a really large one, it’s not always possible for them to talk to me. However, we still all live in the same large house and they are still there with me. That’s the best advice I’ve recieved, and it has helped me with my loneliness.

What are you reading now?
I’m spending my reading hours going through pieces written by other poets like me. AllPoetry and Instagram are very good places to find such pieces, and I’m loving it.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring a book I have – World’s Greatest Poems. I would also bring The Bell Jar and Malgudi Days. And lastly, I wouldn’t forget to bring my own book – Woeful Verses!!!

Interview With Author Gigi Kaur

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Born and raised in the UK.

I’m a pharmacist, all I’ve known most of my adult life is how to be a pharmacist. When I decided that I wanted to write, and I wanted to write about things inspire by true events I knew that I couldn’t do it under my professional name. I am still a Pharmacist I still have my registration, I still practise and it is my primary profession and source of income. But writing is a passion, and life is too short not to embrace your passions. So I knew that I needed to write under a pseudonym- allowing me to remain an upstanding pillar of the community while moonlighting a steamy romance novelist. But its not solely my profession that lead me to writing anonymously, I am Indian. Being Indian and being open about sex is just not the done thing. Sex is still very much taboo within the culture which is surprising since the karma sutra very much highlights the importance of sexual desires and that scripture was created in India. But generally my family and wider community would not be very accepting to my style of writing. That and the fact that its inspired by true events!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Initially I was in two minds about even writing this book. I had heard about a lot of unrest within the Sikh community about interacial marriages and quite a lot of the explicit scenes are between Jaia (the main character) who is Sikh and her romance interests who range from white, black, and Hispanic. My worry was that the story itself would cause a lot of unrest but compounding that my pseudonym makes it very clear that I am in fact Sikh. But thankfully so far no concerns have been raised. The book takes a very modern view on romance its empowering with a strong female lead who is flawed and completely relatable. I wanted to create a character who was strong, smart, adventurous and sensual. I wanted a romance novel where happiness and fulfilment wasn’t hinged on a romantic relationship, with some self discovery and profound advice thrown in for good measure! It’s a feel good book with travel, passion and an element of real life.

As a pharmacist I know how important it is to talk about sex and sexual health feely and openly. So whilst I worry about the negative response this book might get I am hopeful that there will be some positivity in there too.

Jaia Lust:

Jaia has just finished university, ended her long-term relationship and has left her home town to start the first job of her career. The first job that actually means something, and will define her professional life.

All she has to do is focus; pass her pre-registration year, pass her exams and become the pharmacist she’s always wanted. How hard can it be? What could possibly go wrong? Will she be pulled astray? Dive deep into Jaia Lust, and discover the truth for yourself.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am a pharmacist turned romance novelist, crazy right? A chemist that is veering away from hard solid facts and into the land of make believe. Well, it might not be so crazy. As pharmacists and scientists, we also invent and create and allow ourselves to have that blue sky thinking. So, I guess from that perspective it’s not such a wild leap into writing fiction. That said however, I did struggle initially with getting my ideas down.

I had never written a book or created a plan to write a book. The closest thing I had done was write a plan for an experiment… So that’s where I started. The book became my experiment. Instead of a step-by-step experiment method I wrote chapter outlines, instead of a materials list, I wrote down my character names. Did I think about character arcs…no. Did I think about plot and structure…well maybe subconsciously when I outlined the chapters, but I had no idea.

Now, usually when you conduct an experiment you would do some preliminary research right? So, you’d think as a seasoned pharmacist and a member of the scientific community I would have done some research on how to write a book. I didn’t. I dove headfirst into my new passion project. And I enjoyed every second of it, learning and growing every step of the way! Creating Jaia and taking her on a wild adventure of sex, study and travel has been exhilarating and I’m excited to be able to share it with you.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have a very wide range of interest when it comes to books. But I would say I drew my inspiration for Jaia Lust from Eat, Pray, Love and 50 shades of Grey- not inspiration necessarily for the plot or the characters but for writing the book in general. There are so many books I’ve read, Harry Potter amongst many others in my childhood, books by Slyvia Day, Memoirs of a Geisha, Girl with a dragon tatoo series, Charles dickens, many many books. Usually when I go on holiday I take at least 4 or 5 books with me, at university I used to take text books but now thankfully it’s predominantly fiction.

What are you working on now?
The second instalment of the Jaia Series, Jaia Love.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still at the very beginning at my journey so who know it might be doing a interview with Awesome Gang!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Writing the book felt so freeing. I’ve mentioned that within the Indian community sex is hardly talked about. So I wanted to create a character who was strong, smart, adventurous and sensual. I wanted a romance novel where happiness and fulfilment wasn’t hinged on a romantic relationship, with some self discovery and profound advice thrown in for good measure! Writing the book actually felt very therapeutic. There’s something really cathartic about being in control of a characters destiny and taking them on a whirlwind adventure! So for all those wanna be authors sitting on the fence unsure if they should give it a go, I say do it, take the leap and dive into you masterpiece!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh gosh, what a toughie. Erm:
– A book I haven’t read something steamy- I’ve recently been recommended Finishing school
– A Classic maybe a tale of 2 cities but if I’m stranded on an island maybe something a bit longer…
– Memoirs of a Geisha, something from a different time and place
– The Da Vinci Code

Douglas Cole has published six poetry collections and the novel The White Field, winner of the American Fiction Award. His work has appeared in journals such as Beloit Poetry, Fiction International, Valpariaso, The Gallway Review and Two Hawks Quarterly; as well anthologies such as Bully Anthology (Hopewell), Coming Off The Line (Main Street Rag Publishing), the Bindweed Anthology, and Work (Unleash Press).
He contributes a regular column, “Trading Fours,” to the magazine, Jerry Jazz Musician. He also edits the American writers section of Read Carpet, a journal of international writing produced in Columbia.
In addition to the American Fiction Award, his screenplay of The White Field won Best Unproduced Screenplay award in the Elegant Film Festival and was twice selected as a finalist in the New York Metropolitan Screenwriting Contest. He has been awarded the Leslie Hunt Memorial prize in poetry, the Best of Poetry Award from Clapboard House, First Prize in the “Picture Worth 500 Words” from Tattoo Highway, and the Editors’ Choice Award in fiction by RiverSedge. Drifter, the newest poetry collection by Douglas Cole, explores the world through Situationist Guy Debord’s framework of the Dérive. An idea that intensifies observance with an acute attention to the various forces that draw us in or repel us from engaging with certain spaces, the Dérive as an action or a philosophical idea provides a nuanced, personal, political, even spiritual vocabulary for investigating the spectacle of our experience in the landscape of rooms, neighborhoods, cities, highways…

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an author of fiction and non-fiction. I have five fiction works (four under the name of Kimberly A. McKenzie- “Growing Past,” “The Rest Room,” “The Dream of Keriye,” and “Rise Times Souls Love.” The fifth is a book of short stories “Slips Sideways.” I have six non-fiction works, “TEAMWORK (Together Everyone Achieves More)” and five books in “The Quality 4P’s Model” series. This is my second time appearing on Awesome Gang. I am happy to be here informing the community about my newest releases.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book is “The Quality 4P’s Model Guidebook for Chapters 6 & 7” meant to be used along with “The Quality 4P’s Model Handbook.” I have three other Guidebooks for “The Quality 4P’s Model” series and this latest finishes the works. They are all available at:

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
When I write fiction, I create my own “note bank” from the ideas and uncompleted works I am not finishing. These notes are not always included in my books except abstractly or as places to begin thinking about other possibilities.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Margaret Atwood’s short stories, Anne Rice, Robert Frost, and Raymond E. Fiest have all inspired me to reach beyond the page to touch the reader.

What are you working on now?
I have a new fiction novella in progress titled “Twisted Rabbit.” It is the first in a two-book series. The second book will be titled “God in the Mirror.”

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to put my short stories created outside of the intention for a book on booksie.com. I use my social media for release notes. I constantly search for other opportunities to reach new readers for older books and new contributions.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up. My first book “The Rest Room” took five years to complete as real life had other priorities. I went through a divorce, finished my B.S. degree, and my youngest brother died from Diabetes. I took a few months here and there away from my writing, but I always returned. I was determined to have the book. My short stories took off in magazines and small publications and I added “Growing Past.” Rejections were plenty before I found my style, voice, and polish. Learn from every rejection. (I even made a rejection scrapbook to keep the advice notes.)

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Remember, you ARE a writer.

What are you reading now?
“School Days” by Robert B. Parker is the book I am currently reading.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I intend to celebrate the end of “The Quality 4P’s Model” series and rest for a week and a half. Then my pen returns to usual, working and putting words to task.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“The Holy Bible,” “Backyard Treehouses: Building Plans, Tips, and Advice” by Dan Wright, and The Complete Collected Works of Robert Frost are three books I would like to have on a desert island.

Interview With Author Sabina Ostrowska

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I started my writing career with humorous non-fiction, detailing the misadventures my husband and I faced when moving to rural Spain. This series, titled New Life in Andalusia, currently has three books. Each of them has been a bestseller in the humor and travel writing category. Last year, I began working on a cozy mystery series featuring Harry Sinclair, an intrepid travel blogger and foodie. I have written the first three books in this series, with the first book set to release on July 1, 2024. Book 2 will be available around Christmas 2024, and book 3 is planned for release before next summer.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Shadows of Serenity, is the first in the Harry Sinclair Cozy Travel Mystery series. It was inspired by my love of travel and crime stories. For me, the perfect place is sitting on the beach, gazing at the horizon, and savoring a good mystery with a glass of wine. I wanted to capture this feeling in my cozies.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love writing outdoors. Living in southern Spain, where it’s sunny most of the year, my favorite place to write is my patio, where I can enjoy the views of the olive groves. Writing outdoors allows me to take long walks with my dogs whenever I need to mull over a plot twist and figure out how to weave clues into the story.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
For my non-fiction books, David Sedaris has been a significant influence. I admire how he makes himself the butt of the joke and maintains a certain distance from himself, turning his life into a compelling story. For my cozy mysteries, Agatha Christie is my main inspiration. I love the sense of nostalgia in her detective stories and the fact that a careful reader can solve the crimes by following the clues. Additionally, I enjoy that many of her mysteries are set in exotic locations; my own cozy mysteries span places like Thailand, South Korea, Zanzibar, and Egypt.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently editing Book 2 of my Harry Sinclair Cozy Travel Mysteries, titled Moonlit Secrets. Some events in this book take place during a full moon party in Koh Phangan, Thailand. I’m also working on Book 4 of my Andalusian adventures, titled Under the Cherry Blossom. I usually write one book while editing another simultaneously.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Since I started publishing, I’ve tried various methods to promote my books. Running Amazon ads has been the best way to reach a new audience. I also maintain a healthy presence on social media, particularly Instagram and Facebook, on my own pages and in reader groups. Over the years, I’ve developed relationships with influential book bloggers whose support has been crucial. However, the most important aspect is maintaining a good relationship with my audience, as word of mouth is the best marketing tool.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would encourage new authors to prepare a marketing plan and focus on promoting their writing to readers interested in their genre. I would also advise them not to focus on short-term achievements but rather set long-term goals. From my experience, writing and publishing another book has always been the biggest boost to my sales and readership.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I received when I started publishing was not to read reviews, especially on sites where the reviews are not by verified readers. I would pass this advice to any new writer. Good reviews only massage your ego but don’t improve your writing. Bad reviews can be driven by various motivations, some unrelated to writing. Personally, I don’t read reviews; they are for other readers, not writers.

What are you reading now?
I’ve just started reading Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series. As a writer, I always read successful books in my genre to learn from them.

What’s next for you as a writer?
At the moment, I’m working hard on my new Harry Sinclair Cozy Travel Mystery series, and I hope it will be a success in the coming years. I’m developing the plot for Book 4, Hanbok Murders, and considering a new arc for Books 4 to 6.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I had to take only 3-4 books to read and re-read many nights in a row, I would probably avoid murder mysteries, as their appeal diminishes once you solve the case. Instead, I would choose literary fiction because of its rich descriptions and re-readability. I would take with me:

Kid’s Gluten Free Dessert Cookbook. My Sister-n-law has celiac disease this is how I started creating gluten free desserts. Now I want to help more people.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I always grab just a piece a paper even if it a piece of paper I ripped off something and write down my recipes that are going through my head.

Alex Guarnaschelli books she is so great and Aariti’s she is wonderful too.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a gluten free cookbook made with Shaklee plant protein shake mix. I have put this chocolate shake mix in brownies and have a few other recipes. Now my recipes are gluten free and gut healthy. People with celiac or even gluten sensitive have to be careful with their gut.

Yes, Be careful what publishing company you go to check them out before saying yes.

My mom told me never give up on writing your cookbooks.

I am reading nothing at the moment I am working on 2 more cookbooks.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I recently celebrated thirty years as a writer. I measure that time from my first story submission because that’s when my quest for publication truly began. Until then, I was just a guy scribbling words onto the page. Since then, I’ve written twelve books, over a hundred short stories, and countless essays, poems, and book reviews.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is a re-issue of my short story collection, Old Wine & Black Hearts. I published it ten years ago as a celebration of my 20th year as a writer. It contains twenty stories, mostly from early in my career (Old Wine), and a handful of much shorter works which reflected my output at the time (Black Hearts).

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Define unusual. I have an unusual writing trait, if that counts. It’s a rare condition where I don’t suffer from Impostor Syndrome, which really seems to plague my colleagues.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ray Bradbury. His story collections are incredible, and they oftentimes lay hidden in Fahrenheit 451’s shadow. Other than that, I’m a big fan of old school mystery/crime, from authors like Harry Whittington, Fletcher Flora, Stephen Marlowe, and Lawrence Block. For science fiction and fantasy, my biggest influences are John Brunner, Robert E. Howard, Tim Powers, James P. Blaylock, and early Nina Kiriki Hoffman.

What are you working on now?
An audiobook exclusive to my mailing list, called AFK, about the search for several players on a fantasy MMORPG who went missing around the same time.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve found Bookfunnel works best for consistently building my newsletter, which I, in turn, use for book promotion. Facebook ads work okay for moving freebies.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write short stories. They’re not as popular these days as novels, but that’s mostly silly prejudice because readers are being told all the time that they like novels. However, literature has a proud history in the short form, and it’s only a matter of time before they come back in style.

I recommend them to new writers because short stories are like novels, but in miniature. You can learn everything you need to know about the craft in short stories, from character and plot to pacing and — I can’t stress this enough — how to craft a satisfying ending for your story. So many authors I see these days know how to create an opening to hook the reader, and that’s because they have so many failed or abandoned projects along the way. They’re not so good at middles and ends because they don’t write as many, and it shows. Short stories teach you about the middles and ends and gives you the tools for writing longer works. It also teaches you about brevity, something few indie authors have mastered.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Money loves speed.”

If you’re writing professionally, especially as an indie author these days, you have to be fast with your output, and as prolific as you can manage without hurting the quality of your work.

What are you reading now?
Like any voracious reader, I have a few. The one that’s really kicking my eyeballs at the moment is a James Tiptree, Jr. novella called The Color of Neanderthal Eyes. It’s an unflattering look at the possible emergence of a planet’s apex lifeform and the tough moral and ethical questions about humanity’s influence in the development of other worlds. Classic stuff. Tiptree is the nom de plume of Alice Sheldon, who has a rather complicated history/legacy in older sf circles, but boy, could she write!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I need to re-launch my website, which is currently under construction, get more involved with Instagram and Youtube, and get ready for release of my next book, The Come Out. It’s the newest in my mystery series, The Hardwood Case Files. It’s also the beginning of a story arc within the series called The Salvatore Diamond Case.

Drowning Girl was inspired by the Roy Lichtenstein painting of the same name. The book becomes the story of the individual dots within the painting.

For Drowning Girl I used collage material including paid surveys where I had people go to the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and attempt to count the number of dots in the painting.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
This book is particularly inspired by Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, John Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley, Moby Dick, and a number of Elmore Leonard novels.

What are you working on now?
A magical realism novel and a group of poems.

I’ve had three books published and I’ve written at least three others that may or may not see the light of day. 🙂

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
SILAS ON SUNDAYS is a picture book that follows a gender-nonconforming child to church. My first work, bacon grief, is one of the only works of fiction for teens and tweens to celebrate and affirm BOTH faith and sexuality and I was inspired to try to do something similar in the picture book space.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really, except I don’t write every day. I just write when I find that I have something to say and compose it in my mind a lot first, while I’m mowing the lawn or doing something like that. If I do these things like I normally do, then the actual writing happens relatively quickly for me, which I like.

What authors, or books have influenced you?

What are you working on now?
I am trying to revise a murder mystery for teens composed entirely in text messages and other ephemera. I think it works and I think it’s neat but…who really knows!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I try to promote on all of my social media but honestly probably Instagram has provided the most luck so far!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The same advice we’ve all heard, write what you know, in combination with write the books you want to see on the shelves – someone MUCH more eloquently said this but it’s really true.

What are you reading now?
Tomi Adeyemi’s CHILDREN OF ANARCHY AND ANGUISH and whatever Booklist sends me to review. 🙂

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m just going to keep writing as I am inspired to do so. I don’t really have a schedule in mind, but I am hoping that my picture book is successful enough to warrant a sequel or two. 🙂

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born and raised in a small town on the border of Ohio/Indiana which is why I love small-town romances. I’m a former Army wife with three of my four boys in the Army as well which is why I write military romance (at least the first series).

My first two books are A Change of Heart and The Art of Love both have alpha heroes and sassy heroines who keep those alphas egos in check.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Last Game will be released next month on July 23rd.

One of the side characters from The Art of Love inspired it. I already knew Ivy has been crushing on her brother’s best friend since she was 6. While I was writing The Art of Love Grant started talking about Ivy and his feelings for her. I took notes and tried to tell Grant to shut up so I could finish Cat and Brax’s story. Neither Ivy nor Grant were inspired by anyone or anything.
I ask questions about the characters and they talk back.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Probably. To me, it’s not unusual nor to other writers. But I’ll talk to my characters like they are real people. I pretend I’m interviewing them to have a meal or first date type of thing so I can ask question after question. From there, I create character profiles. Lately, I’ve written them into notebooks. There’s something about slowing down my mind while handwriting it.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Claire Kingsley, Pippa Grant, Bella Matthews, Meghan Quinn, Lucy Score are romance writers I adore.

If I’m focusing on my craft–Stephen King’s On Writing.

What are you working on now?
I am editing the next book in The Boys of Bragg series: The Unveiled Fling (pretty sure I’m going to change the title) which is Samantha and Joel’s book. I love this one because both of them have trauma to work through but hide behind other people or create distractions. They become each other’s safe place.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t think I have a best method yet. I still just use social media and my newsletters.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write as much as you can. Make sure to create believable characters–get to know them.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write every day. Hone your craft. Be an expert.

I don’t write every day, but I do make sure I learn something new nearly every day about my craft and how to improve it.

What are you reading now?
I’m between two books and two audiobooks. The two books are: When We Touch by Tia Louise and The Hot Mess and Heartthrob by Pippa Grant. The audiobooks are: Life Rewritten by Andrea Johnston and the audiobook of The Art of Love.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m in the process of creating bonus scenes for each novel in The Boys of Bragg series then start plotting out the next series. The next series will be a small-town romance taking the readers back to Mike and Cat’s hometown with his childhood best friend and his brothers.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Great Gatsby–come on it’s a classic. I adore Daisy because she’s such a flawed character.

I would take one of Claire Kingsley’s Haven brothers books since I haven’t read any of them yet.

One of my favorite re-reads is Love Rekindled by Michelle Lynn, again because Brad is such a flawed character yet he redeems himself.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I’m an author based out of Ohio who writes YA fantasy. My inspirations include fairy tales, anime and manga, and the time I spent living abroad in Japan and Wales. I’ve written two novels–one was my graduate thesis at Seton Hill University, and the other is my official debut, SON OF THE SIREN, published by Oliver-Heber Books. It releases July 2, 2024.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
SON OF THE SIREN has a lot of inspiration from fairy tales, namely three: Allerleirauh, The Wild Swans, and The Little Mermaid. I took major motifs from each story, gender swapped the characters, and mashed everything together into a new tale. I wrote it while I was living in Japan, so a lot of locations in Japan, like Yakushima and Takachiho, inspired the fantastical settings in the novel. Some folklore from Japan also made an appearance, namely the myths surrounding the kitsune.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
For the longest time I would write with a hat on — literally, my “thinking cap.” It was an old mariner’s/sea captain’s cap and I would put it on while writing. I had it for a good while, but when I moved to Japan, I lost track of it, and learned to write without the hat on. I miss it, though. It functioned, in a way, as a sort of device that cleared my mind and made me feel ready to work. That hat was like one big “on” button.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Juliet Marillier, Holly Black, Alix E. Harrow, and Margaret Rogerson are all inspirations. Juliet Marillier was the big one–I read her novel DAUGHTER OF THE FOREST in college and it made me want to write a novel influenced by fairy tales. Holly Black’s FOLK OF THE AIR trilogy inspired me to write about the fae in my fantasy SON OF THE SIREN; Alix E. Harrow’s FRACTURED FABLES got me to view fairy tales in a whole new way; and Margaret Rogerson’s SORCERY OF THORNS is the influence for my current work in progress, THE NAME AND THE KEY.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a YA fantasy trilogy. The first book in the series is THE NAME AND THE KEY. It’s about Lily, a girl who discovers her mother’s body in the marshes, and the curse that follows her through every reflective surface–her mother’s corpse begging her to “open the door.” Lily’s childhood friend Andresh may hold the key to breaking the curse, but his own secrets may destroy them both.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find promotion to be a bit difficult and I don’t really have a budget to do so, so I try to do as much free promo as possible. I promote on social media and use Book Brush to make all of my graphics. I promote heavily on my author website and in my author newsletter. I also rely on the wonderful team at Oliver-Heber Books to help round things out–they have a wonderful newsletter and blog. Lately I’ve been looking for blogs that offer free promotion, and that’s how I found this wonderful site! I’m so appreciative for the interview!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be kind to yourself and try not to compare your success to other people’s. A lot of publishing is outside of your control, and you need to realize that it’s not a reflection of your talent or ability if things aren’t working out the way you wish. Just keep writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Try not to fight your process–this was something my mentor Tim Waggoner taught me when I was in graduate school. I was so worried that I wasn’t doing things “the proper way.” I struggle with writing daily and I edit as I go, and I thought I had to force myself to change because this often goes against common advice. But in doing so, I actually made my writing process worse for me. So I relied on Tim’s advice to not fight yourself, and let yourself write in the way that works for you.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading a manga called DAYS OF DIAMOND by Ohashi Hirai. It’s about Jiro, a young baseball player whose innate talents often alienate others, and as a result, Jiro is lonely and doubts himself. I just finished the arc where Jiro joins the All Japan Under-12 baseball team and they go to Taiwan to play other international teams. It’s been a great read so far and I really feel for Jiro.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m working on my YA fantasy trilogy. Book One: THE NAME AND THE KEY. Book Two: THE STEP AND THE WALK. Book Three: THE FEAR AND THE FLAME. I’m journeying into some darker fare, with a focus on death and trying to conquer it. Plus, there are demons, which has been great fun to write!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d bring Holly Black’s THE CRUEL PRINCE, Margaret Rogerson’s SORCERY OF THORNS, Brigid Kemmerer’s A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY, and N.K. Jemisin’s THE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINGDOMS.
