Enhancing the Benefits of Nauli with a Key Exercise for Abdominal Muscle Strength: 2nd Edition
I was inspired by the therapeutic effect both exercises (nauli from yoga and wall bars leg raises from gymnastics) bring when practiced together.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Email is the most effective form of promotion. Besides, book cover promotes a book very much.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Delete all content that does not correspond to the name of your book and is not addressed to its target audience.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I established Broadway Pacific Press in order to list my titles. My current listings are an adult novel, Sisters of the Soul, and four works for children, Snake Food, The Haunting, Henry Bingle’s Transformation, and Is THAT a Hat? The Haunting, Snake Food, and Henry Bingle’s Transformation are intended for middle school to younger teen readers and Is THAT a Hat is a picture book for a toddler read-aloud as well as an early reader for children 5 to 7 years of age.
I am an author and artist living in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of Northern California. A life-long reading passion inspired my desire to write engaging fiction. Besides writing and creating mixed media artwork, I enjoy gardening, going on hikes, purposeful travel, and playing my four-string guitar.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, A Dangerously Close Encounter is being illustrated, formatted and readied for print, ebook, and audio book editions. It is the second title in the Hazelsmith Family Adventure Series. I was inspired to write an action packed adventure that young readers would appreciate.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’d like to say that I write every day, but it would be a lie. Sometimes life gets in the way and things like marketing and promotion need to be attended to as well as the mundanities of keeping up with home ownership.
I do have a practice that involves writing down a question about plot direction or character, etc., and answering the question with my non-dominant hand. I don’t know why this practice works for me, but it does.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am mad about Roald Dahl first and foremost. I’ve always enjoyed the classics and had a period of deep fascination with the Bronte Sisters. Isabel Allende can sure write a dandy story, and I always enjoy Barbara Kingsolver. John Irving’s earlier titles were riveting, and I enjoy Elizabeth Strout, Lorrie Moore, and Anne Tyler. There are so many fine authors that I admire. This is only a sampling.

What are you working on now?
Don’t Blame Sam, a picture book, is being illustrated. A Dangerously Close Encounter is poised to enter the world of print in September or October, 2024. I am working on music for songs in a family friendly two act play, Christmas in July. The next novel for mature readers is The Fever, a historical fiction set in the gold rush era. Unfortunately, I am grinding away at marketing and promotion and haven’t had a chance to finish The Fever.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I will ponder this. Promo stacking has been helpful. The Fussy Librarian, Free Booksy, and Book Sweeps are all promotion services I’ve tried.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
1. Write and rewrite and then do it again. Turn your critical eye on your words and cut anything awkward or that doesn’t forward the story.
2. Make sure the book is edited. Don’t leave any stones unturned. The work should be perfect by the time it is submitted or uploaded.
3. Don’t think your book is going to sell itself.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Less is more.

What are you reading now?
I am reading The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Fame, fortune, best sellers! Ha ha! Wishful thinking.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar by Roald Dahl, Roget’s Thesaurus, The Elements of Style, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Shell Collector by Anthony Doerr, The Collected Plays of Neil Simon for a chuckle now and then.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi I am Avram, an computer software developer and IT Consultant. My first book, written during COVID from Lanzarote, Spain, is about Keeping your PC Running like new. Not a best seller. I enjoy all things creative, and as such I am a backyard beekeeper, an Amateur radio “ham”, and volunteer for a number of non-profits as their A/V and Livestream expert.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, started 18 years ago after the passing of our Kabbalah teacher, is entitled “The 49 Gates to Wisdom.” This is part of Jewish tradition – the counting of the Omer, which lasts 49 days (7 days and for 7 weeks.) It is a pathway to achieving spiritual awareness. The Kabbalah Cards, a deck of 49 cards, is in the manner of Tarot – you pull a card each day, any day in the year, and that is your “activity” for the day.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Uh, no. I just write on my PC when I get inspired.

What are you working on now?
I am designing and writing AI software Agents. If used wisely, can be influential in writing my next book. Or not.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I need help there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write because you want to. Not because you think you’ll become famous.

Alex Rawecki

Interview With Author Alex Rawecki

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a scientist by background, and I love science. I have a PhD in Neuroscience and I published several scientific articles while in academia. Alex Rawecki is the pen name I chose when I decided to write a fiction book. Growing up, I was very much into books and read almost every book I came across. I enjoyed the feeling of escaping reality and being transported into different worlds. The idea to write my own book had been crystallizing in my head for about six years, and I am proud that I was able to transform the stories in my mind into something tangible for other readers to enjoy.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The thriller ‘Zealous’ is my first book. I don’t think there was a particular event or person that inspired the story. Rather, I felt a need to transform the ideas in my head into stories worth reading. I let my natural inclination towards neuroscience and the biotech industry guide me.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I prefer to write first thing in the morning, and I strictly follow the word count goals that I set for myself. I write every day and I like to listen to jazz or soul music when writing. I drink a lot of coffee, too.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Thrillers by Robin Cook and Michael Crichton are by far my favorite type of fiction books.

What are you working on now?
I am busy executing the marketing plan for the launch of ‘Zealous’. I can feel the ideas for my next book slowly bubbling in the back of my head but I haven’t yet committed to writing my second book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I will have my own data on the effectiveness of various marketing tools in the next three months, so I can’t speak from experience yet. If you are self-published, it all comes down to the budget that you are willing to allocate for your marketing activities. So far, I have had a positive experience with Pubby.co and Bookbite.co, and I think these websites are an absolute must for any self-published author.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I think I still need some good advice myself. Trusting your judgment might be good advice, but only if you have good judgment.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
When life gives you lemons, squeeze them into a water gun and squirt life in the eye!

What are you reading now?
Right now, I am mostly reading through Kindlepreneur’s website. I have to say that since I started writing, I haven’t been able to enjoy fiction books, especially thrillers, as much as I used to. I find myself immediately analyzing the text and the way it is written, which makes the whole experience less enjoyable. Hopefully, this will change over time.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a feeling that my next book will again be an action-filled thriller, but I haven’t committed to writing it yet.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
It would be 3 or 4 of the thickest non-fiction books out there so I wouldn’t get bored and could learn something new every day. I would finally have the place and time to focus on something preferably very science-y. My daughters keep me busy right now and prevent me from reading anything that requires more than two minutes of concentration.

Stardust Wanderer Tarot is inspired by my love of sci-fi and space, and it has a dash of David Bowie.

I must have at least three different drink choices when I write; ocean sounds always need those.

What are you working on now?
I have a book about working with the Moon and a few tarot decks. There is another book idea being worked out now.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the hot summer days of my youth, I cut my teeth on science fiction through novels and comic books. Authors like Edgar Rice Burroughs, Arthur C. Clarke, and Ray Bradbury were but a few writers who shaped my youth. Burroughs’ influence with his John Carter of Mars series was the inspiration for The 5 Moons of Tiiana. It’s also my Las Vegas connection, working in the gaming industry as a Blackjack and Craps dealer, that inspired NanoVision, the story of a blind boy who takes down a mobster.
I began my writing career while attending the University of Nevada, where I co-wrote a musical before moving on to screenplays and novels. I now have around half a dozen stories available.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The 5 Moons of Tiiana. My love of Edgar Rice Burroughs and his Martian series John Carter of Mars was my inspiration. I liked the way he told his stories in first person, giving the reader an in-depth look into the character’s mind. And the way he transported Carter between the worlds of Mars and Earth, meeting new characters and entities. It was a delight. Being that it’s been years since the Martian series was published, I felt a new updated version should be created, and that’s why I wrote The 5 Moons of Tiiana.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I haven’t been consistent in my writing. I need to write more.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Edgar Rice Burroughs. His Tarzan and John Carter of Mar series were the best. Yes, they were pulp fiction, but so much fun.

What are you working on now?
I just did a re-vamp of my novel, NanoVision. It’s up on Amazon.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Not sure. That’s a work in progress.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If it’s what you love then write.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you borrow something, remember it has a home.

What are you reading now?
No time right now as I’m in the middle of promoting my novel.

I’ve got some things rolling around in my head, and I’m thinking of a sequel to 5 Moons.

Interview With Author Gregory Pastoll

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am very keen on any creative pursuits. I enjoy making up stories, and writing anything, whether fiction or serious, whether in prose or rhyme. I have published 15 books, including three for children, two for general audiences (one of these comprises 220 of my own self-illustrated limericks) one script for a musical for young audiences, one book of poetry, four for mechanical engineering students, and four on education .

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is a non-fiction one, explaining teaching methods for instructors of engineering, written because I used to teach the subject of mechanics and developed a fair amount of experience in getting students optimally involved. However, I have many more children’s stories up my sleeve, and am eager to get onto publishing those.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sometimes I start with a word or a phrase, and expand that into a story. For instance, while working on making stage props for a musical of mine that was about to be performed by middle-school children, two of the young participants also helping asked me how I think up these stories. I said to one of them: ‘Will you please give me the name of a city you like?’, and to the other one: ‘Give me the name of an animal you like.’ They came up with ‘Paris’ and ‘a whale’. Right, I replied, the next one will be called ‘A Whale in Paris’. It took me six weeks to write the script and the lyrics, while lecturing full time. Eventually that script was published in book form.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
A A Milne was my first inspiration. Among the first books my mother read to me were his ‘When we were very young’ and ‘Now we are six’. They got the rhyme machine jiggling in my head. Many others have fuelled my fire for writing. Among them are Edward Ardizzone, Roald Dahl, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (The Little Prince), Aesop’s Fables, Shakespeare, Alexander Dumas, Roger Duvoisin and Anthony Hope (The prisoner of Zenda).

What are you working on now?
I am adapting one of my play-scripts into a story book for middle schoolers.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I really haven’t done much promotion for my fictional works, because I have been too busy creating. In the case of my technical books, I wrote individual promotional emails to academics who taught my subject, all around the world,. I found their addresses from university and college websites. That provided an initial push which soon resulted in a steady stream of sales. Not spectacular sales, because it is now rare for departments to prescribe textbooks, but there are enough students who need help so that they look online for books on the topic.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Two pieces of advice. Shakespeare advised: ‘Unto thine own self be true’. So, only write about what you know. It is a bad idea to try to write about topics, people, times and places with which you are not familiar. And don’t try to write like someone else. Just be you. The second piece of advice is to put away new writing and come back to it on several occasions, weeks or months apart. When you see what you have written with fresh eyes, you can make sure it is looking the way you want it to.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
An author once mentioned that one should have as many books in publication as possible. She said that if people like one of your books, they will be inclined to look for more of them. I think she wrote in one genre only, so her audience was well-defined.

What are you reading now?
A book called ‘Fake History: 101 things that never happened’ by Jo Hedwig Teeuwisse. She has researched deeply to debunk a whole array of historical myths that get bandied about as ‘the truth’, such as that ‘Queen Elizabeth the first bathed once a year, whether she needed it or not’.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep on writing the various books that I have begun, and which I dip into from time to time, so that I can polish them up

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Definitely, number one: ‘The Story of my Life’ By Giacomo Casanova. It was banned for years on account of his descriptions of his serial womanising. However, he was one of the most intelligent and entertaining writers ever, and had many adventures in other spheres that are astonishing and better than most fiction. No. 2: ’88 Short Stories by Guy de Maupassant. Absolutely masterful in his depiction of character and his sting-in-the-tail endings. No 3: anything written by Christian Jacq, the French Egyptologist I have his novel ‘Rameses, under the western acacia’. His writing (translated, of course) is like diamonds, every sentence insightful, brilliant and economical. No 4: A big fat book about the great art of the world.

I’ve only written one so far, but have plans for at least two more in the future.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Clown in the Church and Other Spooky Tales. It’s the title of one of my stories on the Nosleep forum on Reddit, and it’s one that seemed to genuinely frighten people.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not particularly, I usually write on the fly with little to no planning. As a panster if I remember the term correctly.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Can’t say really anybody. I don’t have much time to read these days unfortunately.

What are you working on now?
Promoting my first short story collection, and outlining my next one.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still finding that out, I’ll let you know.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would say start with what interests you and go from there. Don’t sweat it too much.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I think to have a minimum word goal each time you sit down to write.

More nosleep and creepypasta, I love horror.

Interview With Author Annie Hudson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As a child, I despised writing of any type. I really wish AI had been around when I was in college. In later life, I discovered that I actually had a knack for it. When the company I worked for needed a ‘strong’ but gentle letter, they’d come to me. If we needed to prepare a brochure or marketing materials, that was also given to me. My main job was as a full-time sales associate and later, vice president.

I used to write crafting books and magazine articles. I wrote a book on how to make paper beads, articles on scrap booking and a children’s book on animal origami. When the internet opened up, these writing opportunities became scarce.

In January of 2024, I decided to create a cozy mystery series. I love the genre – typically sweet and sometimes corny. I pulled from real life people to create the characters and so far, because they are visual – meaning I can see them in my mind – it’s working well.

I have a long list of books I’d like to tackle, some in this series called Emma Anders Cozy Mysteries and the others are additional series. I had to ‘wear a character out’, so I’m always creating new ones.

My husband and I live in the Piedmont Region of North Carolina while our 3 adult children live their lives – one in Greensboro, one in Milan, Italy and the third in Buffalo.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book in the Emma Anders series will be released in the summer of 2024 and it is called The Greedy Ghost Hunting Guest. Since Emma, the main female character, owns a bed and breakfast in Boone, NC, where App State is located, and it is haunted by a friendly ghost, her uncle Preston, it seemed fitting to have a wacky ‘professor’ show up and make a mess of things.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I just write all the time. If I don’t, I can’t sleep. I’m what they call a ‘pantser’ – I just sit down, and the story comes out. This will probably sound unusual, but I see it play out in front of me – it just happens.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love any mystery writer. I also adore the way that Jodi Picoult writes, with each chapter from one character’s perspective – how romance it written – but she covers so much ground this way. It’s refreshing.

What are you working on now?
There are two ‘prequels’ for two new series in the hopper right now.

One will need a ‘new’ genre created- it has some ‘magic’ (not witches or warlocks). The MFC is a very modern, young women who creates something very special – it has ‘Traveling Pants’ vibes.

The other is set of cozy murder mysteries, set in a community that really exists – I know because we have a cabin there – and those characters will also be ‘real’ people – fictionalized.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social Media can be a big help. I’m in my infancy with that and have been just trying to learn everything I can about my target readers. So far, it has been a great journey to identify their personas and delve into the secrets of internet marketing.

Eventually, appearing in bookstores with ‘real’ books would be a goal, as they take off.

I am particularly fond of the ‘build it and they will come’ philosophy – so I swap with other authors, participate in promos, attend online classes – anything that will support the work

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write it. It doesn’t matter if it’s perfect. Getting it on paper is 95% of the battle. Try to find a mentor or join a program that encourages self-publishing. It can be eye opening if you choose the right one.

Tell everyone you see that you are an author. It doesn’t matter if you are published yet or not. Are you writing something for others to read? Then you are an author.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Listen to Learn”. I did a lot of talking when I was in my 30’s, in my 40’s I learned far more from just observing and listening.

What are you reading now?
A David Baldacci novel called Escape. Lots of military lingo and some well researched locations. He’s a great writer. Weird coincidence, I was reading the book in the car, when the MMC told the FMC that he had to ‘go to Quantico’ to change his clothes, meanwhile my husband and I were driving right by the Quantico exit.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More books of course. Refining the craft.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Outlander books, One Harry Potter (I’ve never read them, just watched the movies with the kids), Robinson Crusoe (for some survival hints) and “How to get off a Desert Island” because while I love the ocean, I’m not a big fan of coconuts.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy, Associate School Psychologist, Past Life Therapist, Energy Therapist, REIKI Master 1st Degree, and Consultant. I’m the former owner of an international training company, a Licensed Professional Counselor, an Assistant Instructor of Psychology at Texas State University, and a Supervisor of the Children’s Forensic Clinic for Harris County (Houston).

I’ve written 47 business books, 25 of which have become Amazon Top 100 Bestsellers. And one that has been on the list for six years, 11 months.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Find and Talk with Spirits using a Pendulum is the title of the latest book.

The book started as a collection of research notes about working with spirits and paranormal events, going back to an experiment I was conducting using extrasensory perception at Texas State University, moving forward to doctoral training, which included remote viewing, dowsing, and many esoteric elective courses, concluding with a series of paranormal investigations I am currently performing. It kept getting thicker and thicker, and a book was born. Really, it’s more than a book. It’s a full-blown instructional training manual.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like plotting a story rapidly using bullet points, then going back and adding twists. I take care of developing my characters because their characteristics will dictate how they must react to situations or create tremendous internal and external conflicts with other characters.

After that, like many writers, I go into a trance and let the characters do what they do best – act out the story.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Lee Childs’ Jack Reacher series is the most important because he taught me that Reacher never loses the war. He will win. I want my protagonists to have something special that gives them a leg up so my readers will always know they’ll make it right and be alright in the end.

What are you working on now?
I’m now writing a new fiction mystery series using paranormal methods to solve mysteries surrounding locating and recovering missing persons, fugitives, evidence, artifacts, and cargo. While the stories are fictional, the paranormal methods (dowsing, Remote Viewing, etc.) are real and based on my training and experiences and the demonstrated capabilities of professionals working in missing person rescue and recovery, fugitive location and capture, contraband discovery, and others.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Our training company’s website (https://saleshelp.com) has been the primary driver for our business book and web-based training sales. However, now that we’re winding that down, I’m exploring more traditional marketing methods for my new series of books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Have fun with it. Dream it, then put it to paper.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Ernest Hemingway never tore a paper from his typewriter, crushed it, and threw it away. Instead, he considered everything he wrote important and did not want it to be so disrespected as to trash it. It was a mental motivator to do better but not to put what you wrote down in any way. To this end, when I’m writing on my computer, I always have a page open called “Notes and Removals,” where I can paste what I cut from the original manuscript. So many times, I’ve gone back to that document to retrieve a paragraph or two.

What are you reading now?
Most books I’m adding to my library are related to “How to Write Fiction.” This is all brand new to me. So, I’m attending workshops online and conferences (Mystery Fest Key West, Sleuthfest, etc.) to learn the trade. I’ve been successful as a writer with business books, but this is a whole new world for me, and I love every minute of it.

What’s next for you as a writer?

4. 12,000 Dreams Interpreted (Gustavus Hindman Miller – updated by Linda Shields and Lenore Skomal)

With those books, I could access unlimited inspirational prompts to fantasize about and develop story after story. My mind would never go numb.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been fascinated by words and stories for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been writing them almost as long. I’ve dabbled in poetry, microfiction, non-fiction, short stories, and even plays and movie scripts, but my true passion is writing novels. I love delving into characters’ psyches, figuring out who they are, and where they belong in the world. Add in some paranormal and fantasy elements and I love it even more. So far, I’ve published two novels (and two related short stories), but have written a few more.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My recently published book is called Bleeding Heart. My love of plants merged with my vampire obsession and I came up with my character Mara, a vampire herbalist with a garden. She’s the main character in my first book, Love Lies Bleeding, while Bleeding Heart focuses more on Ash, an actor turned against his will (although Mara makes an appearance). Both titles are also names of plants.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Choosing to be a writer is unusual enough!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think my earliest influences were fairytales and children’s stories like Alice in Wonderland. As I got older, I got more into horror, reading authors like Anne Rice and Whitley Strieber. By the time I started writing seriously, I was reading mostly classics: Robertson Davies, Dostoevsky, Dumas. These days my reading material consists of a mix of literary fiction and fantasy. I can’t point to any one influence because I believe that everything I’ve read has had some effect on my writing.

What are you working on now?
I’ve started on a couple of new novels (a sequel to Bleeding Heart and a paranormal YA novel). I’m also busy with smaller projects, including writing reviews of every episode of Supernatural (all fifteen seasons of it!)

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best promotion method is blogging on my own site and chatting with the people who comment. Never underestimate the power of engaging with people.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write for yourself, not for the market.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I appreciate Stephen King’s advice to “kill your darlings,” but the best advice I’ve received has to be “keep at it.” Writing can be frustrating, so every bit of encouragement helps.

What are you reading now?
I’m just finishing some dense nonfiction, but I’m looking forward to reading The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern and Silver Fire by Freya Pickard.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Unfortunately, I’m a pretty slow writer, so I’ll be busy for the next long while with the projects I mentioned before.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Ah, the torture part of the interview. Well, the first two books would have to be “How to Survive on a Desert Island” and “How to Get Off a Desert Island.” Aside from those, how about the Collected Works of Shakespeare, the Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and Edge of Twilight by Maggie Shayne. This selection will probably change by tomorrow (other than the first two).

Samson and His Women. The book chronicles and catalogue’s Samson sordid mistakes in selecting girlfriends. I see so many problems in relationships as a pastor and wanted to provide solutions.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Bible and the details. I have no favorites in authors.

What are you working on now?
A novel about a high school girl named Jance. The setting is 1957 in Mississippi.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As a first-time author, the journey of writing “Hoofprints in Saguaro Shadows” has been incredibly exciting and deeply personal. The narrative follows the lives of two compelling characters, Rye Dalton and Alejandro Mendoza. Rye is a fiercely independent woman exemplifying the characteristics of country-raised women everywhere, while Alejandro is the seasoned Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs, whose character is complex and brings about the sense of a mystery to be solved. Together, they stand as guardians of the Dalton Ranch, a symbol of peace in a land fraught with conflict. Through their journey, themes of courage, resilience, and moral integrity are illustrated — qualities that I believe resonate deeply in today’s world.

I was born and raised in the American West, growing up on a family ranch, which provided me with a connection to the land and its stories. This is a theme vividly reflected in the narratives of the book. I feel my experience training horses and participating in cow horse events helped me to bring authenticity and a realistic sense of place to the accounts. My experiences, from the dusty arenas of local competitions to the serene expanse of the ranchlands, serve as the backdrop for stories that explore themes of loyalty, resilience, and the complexities of human and environmental relationships.

I’ve always been fascinated by the American Southwest, its striking landscapes, and its rich cultural tapestry. This passion has fueled the story I’ve crafted, which intertwines historical context with contemporary issues, offering a unique perspective on the tensions and dynamics at the U.S.-Mexico border in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

Having lived in Mexico myself, I find its culture enamoring, adding depth and authenticity to my portrayal of Alejandro and his world. Composing this book has been a labor of love, a process filled with countless hours of research, writing, and revision.

Though the narrative of the book is crafted within the realm of fiction, it is profoundly touched by contemporary issues and inspired by real-life stories. The character embodied by Luis, for example, bears a strong resemblance to the story of an elite cutting horse trainer. This connection is further personal to me through “Samson,” whose involvement in a pivotal first chapter scene echoes a harrowing experience my mother survived, thanks to her horse, when faced with an assault. And the catamaran story really happened to a friend almost exactly as portrayed.

The genesis of this book was fueled by a desire to touch hearts and minds through storytelling, fostering compassion and understanding among a diverse array of individuals impacted by the border crisis, including ranchers, migrants, and law enforcement. My aim is to highlight the complexity of these experiences and encourage a more empathetic perspective. It’s a story that’s close to my heart, and I hope it captures the imagination and emotions of readers as much as it has for me. I’m excited to share it with you, and I sincerely hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Was It A Dream?: Navigating Life’s Journey Through Poetry. It is the first in a three-book series of poetry I gathered from notebooks and sketch books back to the 1980s.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have really gotten into dictating my poetry I found using Scrivener.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Tony Hillerman, Shakespeare and Mary Oliver have really influenced me.

What are you working on now?
I am formatting in Vellum my new poetry book, Was It A Dream?: Navigating Life’s Journey Through Poetry. I am also re-releasing my first book, This Tumbleweed Landed and I am learning AMMO Click Ads Testing from Steve Pieper.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do a free giveaway and stack promotions at a variety of vetted websites—Fussy Librarian, etc.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t wait! I wrote my first book then put it away for twenty-five years. Do it now!

Write two crappy pages a day.

I’ve written six books, three about ADHD, as well as coloring books that both my grandchildren and adult children enjoy. Currently, I’m working on an exciting children’s book. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is about my love of art. I want people to understand the great masters I have by learning to draw anything they could think of, especially the human figure in portraiture. I’m in the process of finishing that book and will be offering it on this site.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have ADHD and hyper-focus problems. I’ll be getting a book and continuously losing sleep day upon Day until it’s finished exhausted.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve read all the classics that I could find, especially the works of CS Lewis. I’m currently reading The Scarlet Letter; it’s heartbreaking.

What are you working on now?
After finishing the art book, I would like to finish my children’s book, I was writing it simultaneously.

Right about the things you love.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
In high school, I had a difficult art teacher who was a great artist in her own right. She told me to “draw what I really see and not what I think I see. People do not stick figures.” she taught us to develop our style and refused to show us how to draw anything. She would place something in front of us and say draw.

What are you reading now?
The Scarlet Letter in a book about the Palestinian conflict.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I really want to finish my children’s book, but I struggle with it, trying to bring it to a 5th-grade level.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
After several years working as a technical writer for the government, I was able to quit and devote my time to writing the stories in my head and in my heart. And there are a lot of them! I’ve had 2 historical romance novels published, as well as short stories and poems. I like reading different genres, and that’s reflected in my output as well.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Summer and 16 is the title. It’s loosely based on my own 16th summer, which I spent at a lovely lake. I’ve had different versions over the years, but finally nailed it down.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I need to have a clean desk when I write. Clutter is definitely not allowed!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Can’t pin it down as I’d have to say all the authors of the books I’ve read have influenced me in some way.

What are you working on now?
Another young adult novel.

Something I have yet to discover.

Get that first draft done, then get out the scissors. Having it critiqued can help, too.

You can’t just write to popular trends. Your heart and soul must be in it.

A thriller, Predator by Wilbur Smith.

at some point I want to finish a mystery series I began writing a few years ago.

A difficult question. Something practical about edible plants or how to survive, the complete works of Shakespeare in one big tome – that should take a few years. also the complete Sherlock Holmes.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m founder of the non-profit 1455 Lit Arts and direct the Center for Story at Shenandoah University. I’ve been publishing fiction, poetry, reviews (of music, movie, book, food), and essays on the technology industry for over twenty years. I’ve appeared on NPR’s “All Things Considered” and been quoted in USA Today, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Forbes and AdAge. I was a longtime columnist for PopMatters, and my work has also appeared in Salon, The Village Voice, The New York Post, The Good Men Project, Writer’s Digest, Memoir Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine, and many other publications. My poems have been widely anthologized, including the collections Revisiting the Elegy in the Black Lives Matter Era, This Is What America Looks Like, Lo-Fi Poetry Series: Poet Sounds, and Written in Arlington: Poems for Arlington, VA.

I was previously the writer-in-residence at Noepe Center for Literary Arts at Martha’s Vineyard, and in 2017 founded the arts non-profit 1455. My memoir PLEASE TALK ABOUT ME WHEN I’M GONE was released in 2013. My novel NOT TO MENTION A NICE LIFE (2015) was followed by my first two collections of non-fiction, MURPHY’S LAW, VOL. ONE and VOL. TWO (2016, 2017). My chapbooks THE BLACKENED BLUES (Finishing Line Press) and RHAPSODIES IN BLUE (Kelsay Books) were published in 2021 and 2023. My next poetry collection, KINDS OF BLUE (Kelsay Books) and his collection of short fiction THIS KIND OF MAN (Unsolicited Press) both published in 2024. He has been nominated four times for the Pushcart Prize, twice for Best of Net, and PLEASE TALK ABOUT ME WHEN I’M GONE was winner of the 2022 Memoir Prize.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
This Kind of Man offers an unvarnished look at life in 21st-century America, excavating the complicated, tender, wild truth of what it is to be a man across generations and relationships. We see that our received notions of manhood and masculinity are inculcated—from the beginning and by design—to ensure willing participation in a system where the overwhelming majority are excluded from the start. We witness the way these dysfunctions are handed down like inheritance, and how every cliché, from fighting to drinking to intolerance of dissent and distrust of others, is a carefully constructed trap, preventing solidarity, empathy, and love (for others, for oneself).

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’ve been writing long enough that I’ve figured out to have a regular, unbreakable routine is either an incredible privilege or the sign of dangerous OCD. As such, I prioritize writing and fit it in whenever I can, and it’s always easier when a particular piece or project is going well and nothing else matters until it’s complete!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
While I would hesitate to draw any flattering comparisons between myself and these two masters of the short story, I believe This Kind of Man is in the vein of both George Saunders and Tim O’Brien (thinking especially of In Persuasion Nation and The Things They Carried), as it seeks to take an unflinching look at people in crisis, describing the ways this world has pushed them to some type of breaking point. Several of these stories take place in so-called flyover states, so I feel obliged to send a loving shout out to the great Breece D’J Pancake, who wrote so indelibly about Appalachia.

What are you working on now?
I’m polishing off my fourth collection of poetry; I have another book of short stories I’m about half-way through with, and I’m also outlining and drafting a follow-up memoir.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
No writer can be aloof to a social media presence; I’m at seanmurphy.net, I blog at bullmurph.com, and you can find me on Twitter and Instagram at @bullmurph.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
First and foremost: read and write all the time. It’s the most basic and ostensibly simple advice, but it’s crucial. I meet aspiring writers all the time who talk about what they want to do (or will do) “eventually.” Writing material that aspires to connect in a meaningful way with a broader audience involves hours and years of hard, often unfulfilling work. Don’t quit your day job, but treat your writing like it’s your life. Seek to execute sentences and scenes you haven’t encountered, even in books you admire. Work toward cultivating a unique style and ways to convey familiar -and unfamiliar–themes with honesty and originality. Turn off the television, shut off your phone, and understand the real dirty work that results in quality writing involves lots of long, lonely hours. If you aren’t feeling it with all of your being, how can you hope to engage a potential reader? Above all, trust yourself and love yourself: writing is necessarily a solitary endeavor, but you are connecting yourself with a community of special human beings who have made our world demonstrably better. Celebrate the idea of contributing something of yourself to that tradition.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I think often of this amazing quote, courtesy of V.S. Pritchett:
“Sooner or later, the great men turn out to be all alike. They never stop working. They never lose a minute. It is very depressing.”

I’ll say, as someone who has been writing (with varying degrees of success and consistency) over more than two decades, there’s literally something from any writer’s observations of what works for them that I can identify with, understand, or seek to emulate. I also know this type of dedication, discipline, and focus is not limited to artists; mastery involves an almost impossible combination of obsession, passion, respect (for the subject; for the self), ambition, and not lastly, balance.

What are you reading now?
I’m greatly enjoying my friend Whitney Collins’s forthcoming collection RICKY & OTHER LOVE STORIES (Sarabande).

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write, read, write, read, so on and forever.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Howdy! My name is Ben, I live in the UK, I sell bathrooms for a living, and for my sins, I follow Formula 1 motor racing. I love sci-fi, especially Star Trek, and I am a huge fan of most things Disney too. I have published two books, and currently have a third in the hands of my publisher.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Fontana & Istilor, which sort of bubbled up out of nowhere. It’s the story of Michael, a young man propelled into a crazy situation, where he is transformed into, of all things, an anthropomorphic meerkat! He faces a fight on his hands to get home, and he finds himself dealing with a secret family legacy on his way.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know about *unusual*. I will often imagine scenes in my head, as I walk to and from work, and I’ll try to put those scenes to paper when I get home. Needless to say, what I imagine, and what I put down on the page, do not always match!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As a kid, I read a lot of Roald Dahl. His books were captivating and magical to me. The likes of James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory… they were all wonderful stories. As an adult, I have thoroughly enjoyed David Weber’s Honorverse books, and the Old Man’s War saga from John Scalzi crackles with feisty energy. Peter F. Hamilton’s sci-fi works have a brilliant, epic feel to them, and I highly recommend Becky Black’s ‘Shoot the Humans First’.

What are you working on now?
I recently finished the sequel to my debut book, The Awakening. This is now with the publisher, so soon will come the time to go through edits and such. Beyond that, I am looking to follow up on Fontana & Istilor, and I have a couple of projects rattling around in my brain.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I turn to social media for a lot of promotional work, though I have a website, www.meerkatmusings.co.uk, where I talk of my books (among a lot of other stuff!).

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Try to enjoy what you write. If you are not entertained by your own words, you can’t reasonably expect someone else to.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
‘Show, not tell’. Let the actions of the characters show the reader the events, and let the characters tell the story.

What are you reading now?
I’m looking to start the Illyria series, by Armin Shimerman.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am looking to write a third part – perhaps a conclusion – to The Awakening. I have also toyed with developing a Roman-era story into a more polished book, and my daughter wants me to develop a dragon story.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oooooooh… good question. I’d probably take Old Man’s War by John Scalzi, and Shoot the Humans First by Becky Black. Dark Matter, by Blake Crouch, is a compelling read too.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Writing has always been a love, though I didn’t always take it seriously. I started with feature articles for Ghanaian blogs, then ventured into running my own (though it’s no longer active). Now, with ‘The Stumble with Doom’ as my debut novel, I’m determined to tell more unique stories from my vibrant city, Accra.

Born and raised in Ghana’s capital, I’m a proud graduate of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (now the University of Media, Arts and Communication). As a single mom and restaurant cook, I juggle my passions with the realities of life. But my dedication to writing burns bright, and I’m eager to share more of Accra’s soul with the world.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My friend’s playful challenges, throwing random ideas my way, birthed the germ of ‘The Stumble with Doom.’ When the world faced a new threat, I poured that creativity into the pages, resulting in my current book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My characters are keeping me company—a little too well, maybe? Writer’s block? I never heard of her!

For fiction, I will say Peggy Oppong’s “No roses for Sharon and “Lemon suitcase.”

What are you working on now?
I’m writing a heartwarming children’s story that explores themes of family, love, and finding your forever home, and my other project is a supernatural thriller that explores unconventional relationships and the complexities of human nature.

For promotion, I’ve been focusing on social media strategies. While I haven’t used any paid services yet besides Awesomegang, I’m actively building an online presence.

Just write!

“Be yourself.”
