Hello, everyone, welcome to Grow to Your Fullest channel. I’m Ling Zhang, the author of Grow to Your Fullest. Today I will tell you why I wrote the book.
Let me start with my background. I grew up in a small village China, where poverty was around, no milk, no bread and no meat – I even ate wild vegetables and tree leaves. However, I was rich in dreams. The beauty of the nature – twinkling stars, silvery moon light, radiant sun rise, flowers in seasons brought me many beautiful dreams.
As a little girl, every year I dreamed to have a shirt with flowers, especially at New Year. I did not dare to ask because I knew my parents had no money. But that could not stop me dreaming, sometimes I closed my eyes – picturing I put on a fine made silk flowery shirt. One summer, my father brought a piece of silk fabric home. My mother turned it magically into a beautiful shirt. I was so excited when I put it on.
One day, I was told there is a country called America, a beautiful country. I dreamed to come to America then I arrived here in 1996. Now I have been here for over 25 years. During these years, many things happened. One of the things happened was revolutionary because it turned my view on life upside down. I went from being a person who did not believe in anything to becoming a person of faith. I believed there is a God who started everything: my life and my dreams. Though I had many dreams in childhood, I did not dream to have chocolate because I did not know I did not have chocolate. This means my dreams were limited by my limitation. Believing in God removed my limitation. Now I can dream much nobler dreams.
In life, I have gone through so many. The journey was not smooth but was full of great and sensational moments – bad and good. But they all played a significant role in shaping my character. At one point, I came to realize how each moment was intertwined so tightly into a bigger picture and these are moments of enrichment – they instill meaning, transform lives, bloom beauties, and sow the seeds of eternity. God has made everything beautiful in its own time and infused each moment with eternity. I also realized that all those things worked together to bring me to the truth, gain the essence of life, and understand the will of the Lord. As It’s said in the Bible that “ In all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28).
Most importantly, I came to know, through all of life’s struggles and turns, God helped me become an author I dreamed in youth. I wrote the book because my dear LORD, Jesus Christ, His tender, faithful love moves my heart; His gentle and powerful hands hold me, and His words empower me to move forward in life regardless of any kind of adversaries and obstacles, and His calling to live a life of fullness inspires me. In Him, I found the secret of living a life to the fullest.
I also realized the biggest problem is that most people are disconnected from their deepest inner longings, and from their purpose of living; people are disconnected from their calling for a great cause. All these because they are disconnected from the spring of life, God. People pursue paper thin temporary happiness. They want to become famous and be recognized by the world; they pursue success in material possession. At the end, they are consumed by their success instead of consuming the success with true inner joy and peace. They lose the harmony of life.

I value the harmony of life, truth, love and beauty and want to help people to live out their best lives, to reach their fullest selves, no matter whom you are or where you are in life. What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Grow to Your Fullest – 4 steps to rise above the crowd, bloom and bear fruit

Through all of life’s struggles and turns, I came to know that God helped me become an author I dreamed in youth. I am a director of data science team and manage a team of data scientists at different levels. I support non-profit companies to mentor young people who will be data scientists. I am also volunteering to be coach and mentor for others for spiritual and career growth

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a physicist and computer engineer (among other things) by training. After thirty years in industry, working at every level from individual technical contributor to senior vice president, I was ready for a change. I now write full-time, and my latest book, just out, is my twenty-second.

Mostly I write science fiction and techno-thrillers, from time to time throwing in some popular science. Along the way, I’ve flown (mainly crashed) the space-shuttle training simulator, toured the space-station training simulator, gone behind the scenes at a satellite factory and a radio-astronomy observatory, and seen a space-shuttle launch from up close.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
That’d be Déjà Doomed, published on May 25th. It’s a near-future adventure set mostly on the Moon. Our intrepid explorers find artifacts left behind by ancient alien visitors — and you just know nothing good can come of their poking around. Even if the title didn’t mention doom.

What inspired the book? Well, First Contact is not only among the most popular SF themes, but it’s also among my favorites. I wanted to do something new with it. Most First Contact stories involve either face-to-whatever encounters or some type of signal detection — and I’d already done such novels myself. An archeological discovery of alien visitors would be different — but by itself not (ahem) as novel as I’d like. So, rather than hide the traces of long-ago visitors on Earth, I chose the Moon. Setting my book on the Moon allowed the alien relics to be far older, and far better preserved, than if they’d been left on Earth. Which then led to other wrinkles that are best left for readers to discover.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Drawing a blank here. I doubtless have my quirks, they just seem normal to me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many writers are friends to wish to single out living favorites. And yet, I *will* name the SF of Larry Niven. His SF, especially his “Known Space” future history, appealed to me enough that I approached him about collaborating — and, in the end, we did the five-book Fleet of Worlds series together. That makes Larry both a favorite author and a significant influence on my writing career.

Among the sadly departed, I’m a big fan of Joseph Heller’s Catch-22 and pretty much anything by Kurt Vonnegut.

What are you working on now?
A story arc about aliens on an interstellar cruise ship who get stranded on the fringes of our solar system. (Have I mentioned an interest in First Contact?)

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Some combination of a personal website, blog, and Facebook.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Rejection is inevitable on the road to being published. PERSONAL rejection (as opposed to form letters and emails) is actually good news: editors are too busy to spend time on authors whose submissions haven’t already shown promise.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Editorial comments are SUGGESTIONS. Don’t take suggestions with which you disagree. This, by the way, was advice from an editor.

What are you reading now?
I *just* finished Andy Weir’s latest novel, Project Hail Mary — it’s the kind of tech-centric SF I write. From which I dove into two books at once. The first is 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus, by Charles C. Mann. The second is Pity the Reader: On Writing with Style, by Kurt Vonnegut and Suzanne McConnell. (Have I mentioned an appreciation for Vonnegut?)

What’s next for you as a writer?
As my last few novels have mainly been set on the Moon and asteroids, it’s time for me to do something set on Mars.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well, they’d have to be long. Am I allowed omnibus editions? Oh, and a download of Wikipedia?

USA Today Bestselling author with 65 plus books for Harlequin Presents/Mills & Boon Modern, 20 more books with other publishers, as well as my red-hot passion romance Indie books.

I started out writing non-fiction, and then my husband bought an auction lot ‘Be An Author For A Day’ which happened to be a writing day of bliss with the FABULOUS late Penny Jordan, who persuaded me to write romance. Penny became not just my mentor, but my closest friend. We shared a love of dogs, and all animals, and I owe her everything I am in the writing sense.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Warrior Witch is the first book in my new HOT HEX series. I’m so excited about this series, as it is my first scream ride into hot fantasy romance.

I would describe my books thus: Romance with heart, heat and red hot men, written by author addicted to all of the above!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write a lot!!! I get up at five o’clock in the morning to make a start – that’s when I don’t stay up all night writing. And I can never make write without my faithful dog muse Betty lying on my feet, snoring contentedly.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. I could so identify with this book when I was a pre-teen. Wind in the Willows taught me a lot about the power of friendship. Judy Bloom taught me a lot about life. Grimm’s Fairytales opened my eyes to the impossible being possible – and scared the living daylights out of me into the bargain – but then I was just a kid when I discovered that thick book propping up the broken leg of my favourite chair!

What are you working on now?
Christmas Witch – a celebration of all things Christmas: warmth, friendship, good food, loyalty, magic, and scorching hot men.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
www.susanstephens.net is where the soul of my writing resides. My readers pass the word, knowing I love and appreciate them all, and absolutely write for them. They share my news unstintingly.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never EVER give up.
I had pretty much given up, when an icon of the romance genre, Penny Jordan, asked, “What do you have to lose by giving it one more shot?”
Penny was right. I got the call, and the rest is history.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Bum glue: advice from the inimitable Nora Roberts.

What are you reading now?
A Gentleman in Moscow, and Captured by a Gentleman by the amazing Carole Mortimer.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Fire Witch, followed by book eleven in my hot as hell Acosta brothers Polo series for Harlequin Mills & Boon.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d need a trunk! All Georgette Heyer’s novels – the same for Jean Plaidy. I’d re-read so many books from my childhood – A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Black Beauty, War Horse, Wind in the Willows, Heidi, Heidi Grows up, and Heidi’s Children – these books instilled in me a lifelong love of reading, for which I can never thank their authors enough.

I have written 5 books mostly on jazz and jazz music. Women In Jazz is one of the major areas I cover and interviewing female musicians and learning about and sharing their journeys. I am International editor for the Jazz Journalist Association and a columnist as well. I review concerts and recordings and curate the Jazz repository – 59,000 old and vintage recordings. I host radio shows and basically do a lot of things involving music.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Pause, Play, Repeat was inspired because musicians were not being heard during the pandemic. Many saw their incomes fall off a cliff so I wanted to give them a platform. 18 stellar musicians were interviewed. Before that Women In Jazz was inspired by women’s journeys in jazz and the book won several awards and recommendations. All That’s Jazz was inspired by a love of jazz and the desire to investigate and share the inner workings of the jazz industry so I interviewed musicians, PR people, managers, writers and a host of others and put the book together. It has been popular.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write best when I have an impending deadline.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
An author called Finklestein but also the usual – Enid Blyton as a kid.

What are you working on now?
A book which will blow jazz open – inside the industry – women, bullies, all kinds of things. All good things about jazz too of course.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
None really – mostly publishers have managed that in the past but this last book I self published and used FB and Twitter.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Find your niche, remain passionate and ignore anyone who says ‘ you can’t do it’. You can but you need to work and learn – all the time. Many people out here are willing to help.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up.

A few ideas but mostly jazz.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a librarian in an elementary school in Montreal. It’s the best job in the world. I get to read books, buy books and foster a love of reading in the next generation of young people. I decided to write a chapter book series and I am currently writing book #5.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Black Hole Radio – Saphira. The idea for the story came from a beeping sound in my garage after my children’s great uncle died and I ended up with some of his stuff in my garage for storage. We could hear a beeping sound coming from one of the boxes and it took weeks to find the source. When we did we could not stop the beeping no matter what we did. It would beep at 2 pm every afternoon and if was very eerie and sparked my imagination.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I start writing and ideas just seem to come to me on the fly. I keep writing because when I stop to think about it everything just falls into place with a little tweaking. I’m definitely a pantser and not a plotter.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I always loved Charlotte’s Web and The Wizard Oz. But as a librarian I read many, many middle-grade books and I wanted to write a funny story like Bruce Coville’s scifi series “My teacher is an alien”. I love the way he interweaves humor into his adventure and scifi elements.

What are you working on now?
I am working on book 5 in my Black Hole Radio series. I have been developing my characters and their experiences at school and in their club house. I try to work some realistic issues that all kids face into my stories. This story is set on planet Saphira and will challenge our heroes to…….Stay tuned to Black Hole Radio

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Twitter by far. I am part of the #WritingCommunity and they are very supportive. But I like the specific groups on FB.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing, it gets easier the more you do it. Book one was like pulling teeth but it’s gotten progressively easier to write the dialog and create the drama and cliff hangers.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Go where the story leads you.

What are you reading now?
I am reading The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager. It’s a great thriller/mystery.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to continue writing stories that help kids think about real issues and make them laugh at the same time.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written and published six books in the Casey Holland mystery series. I’ve also released a two-book mystery series focused on white-collar crime, plus two novellas featuring security guard, Evan Dunstan. Those books are currently unavailable after my publisher closed shop, but I hope to re-release them again. I’m currently working on a full-length urban fantasy, with the working title When Darkness Draws Nearer. I live near Vancouver BC and primarily set my books in Vancouver and the surrounding lower mainland. I used a handful of European settings in my first book, The Opposite of Dark, as I visited those places during my travelling days.

I’ve worked a lot of different jobs in retail, security, and office administration. Several of those experiences, along with volunteer work in a juvenile detention center have been incorporated into my novels and short stories.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Blade Man, which is number six in the Casey Holland series. The inspiration came from a series of attacks on bus drivers in Vancouver, where I live. Research soon revealed that this is a problem in cities throughout North America and elsewhere. The ramifications can be quite severe on drivers.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I know that some authors like to play music while writing and others prefer silence. I like silence, but I also keep the TV on, sometimes with the sound up. I’m a news junkie and am also tuning in to find out what’s going on in the world.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
In childhood, Nancy Drew inspired my love of reading and fascination with mysteries. In my teens and twenties, it was Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayer, the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, thengreat American authors like Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett. Later it was Sue Grafton, Tony Hillerman, and many others.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on two projects right now. One is my first urban fantasy, which is nearly twice as long as my mysteries, but great fun. I’m also completing my seventh Casey Holland mystery, only this one is a novella and is on the humorous side, called Man in a Gold Satin Thong.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For me, promoting my books works best through my blog and newsletter, although I do promote on Twitter and Facebook as well. I’m always looking for new opportunities, and still figuring out how to make the best use of Instagram.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is to keep reading, keep learning, and try to network with others either through social media, your local library, or community centers. Writing and publishing is not as solitary as you might think.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Read, read, read. Not just in your genre, but everything.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading W is for Wasted, which is one of Sue Grafton’s last novels before she passed away. I’ve loved this series from the beginning and have postponed reading her last three novels because I really don’t want the series to end.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll be looking for beta readers for both my fantasy and the novella. While they read the book(s) I’ll be outlining the next fantasy and possibly starting a new paranormal mystery series, which combines the two genres I love most.

For the past 22 years I have been internationally recognized as leading expert on civility at work. I am a 16 time published author, CEO of Civility Experts Inc., speaker, mentor, and civility advocate.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The new book is called “Civility at Work”
In case you were not aware, research focusing on both Canadian and U.S. companies shows that a whopping 98% of people polled have experienced uncivil behavior on the job. And, according to the fourth annual study on Civility in America: A Nationwide Survey, conducted by global public relations firm Weber Shandwick and public affairs firm Powell Tate in partnership with KRC Research, civility in America continues to erode. This year’s study found that 70% of the Americans believe incivility has reached crisis proportions. Alarmingly, 81% of the Americans think that incivility is leading to an increase in violence at work. Notably, 80% of the people are dissatisfied with their jobs. TO ME – this is a problem worth solving and so I was inspired to write the book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Maybe other authors do this too- but I write “nuggets”, I have these moments of inspiration and I have little notes everywhere. Over a few months I begin to see how these notes all align and a book falls into place. In the past, I have been able to put all the notes together in a few weeks and seemingly write a book in 21 days (ish) but the reality is the book has been formulating for months.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a nonfiction person so fascinated by any nonfiction author or researcher who can hold my interest and teach me something. No favorites really- the topics draw me in. Anything social science is like a sugar craving- I just can’t get enough.

What are you working on now?
At present I am taking a break. Along with Civility at Work, I co-authored 3 books on Civility in Manufacturing- all four books completed in about 18 months so I am exhausted. Switching to training projects at present.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Word of mouth- and I love LinkedIn. Our target audience is business- owners, managers, HR so LinkedIn is perfect for us

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t ask too much advice until you have dumped what is in your heart and head onto the page. Then ask for feedback- otherwise, the opinions of others- good or bad can really change your approach and content and overall satisfaction about what you write

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just do it! Don’t overthink it, just start.

What are you reading now?
Nothing. lol. Honestly, taking a break, letting my brain rest.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to mentor our 500+ affiliates to each write their own books- I think it is an incredibly satisfying achievement and there is a lot of learning and introspection involved. I feel it’s a gift we give ourselves to write a book.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up in a small town in Tennessee called Jonesboro. It’s the oldest town in Tennessee and I lived walking distance to the historical downtown district. I spent a lot of my teen years wandering around the old houses and letting my imagination run wild.

The house in Ruthie, my first book, was inspired by an actual house on Main Street in Jonesboro. I’ve always been fascinated by old houses with old stories.

I’ve recently moved to Michigan (husband’s job) and I love it here! I feared the winter would be difficult but as luck would have it, menopausal hot flashes coincided with this past winter so it worked out quite well!

I have a Boxer named Cece. She is rotten. And I have a huge cat who weighs in at twenty pounds! Really! And I have another cat who is more normal at twelve pounds.

I love wine, football, and my husband (not necessarily in that order, I suppose…!)

I’ve written three books so far and am beginning work on another series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Again, the third book in the Ghost Girls series.

I honestly don’t know what inspired it! It came to me in bits and pieces and created itself.
Some of it was inspired by my daughter, who is also a writer. She had a partially finished story that she ‘gave’ to me and I used it for the middle part of the book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Don’t think so! But I suspect most writers are unusual anyway. So, maybe…?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I pulled up my Kindle to see what authors I’ve read the most. In no particular order I have Jodi Picoult, Liane Moriarty, Mark Edwards, Harlan Coben, Michael Crichton, and of course, Stephen King.
I can pick up any of their books and all I want to do is read until it’s finished!

What are you working on now?
A new series! It follows a character who spins off from the last book, Again.
After her husband passes, Connie begins working in a real estate office. Eventually she finds that she has a unique gift that the agency can definitely use and she begins matching buyers with haunted houses while also appeasing restless spirits with stories to tell.

And, of course, she must deal with one particularly pesky ghost from her past who just won’t leave her alone.

Each book will be based on an actual house and I will pull in various stories from history to build the ghost’s story. I plan to add in a fair amount more humor also.
I loved writing Ruthie, but the topic was difficult.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Don’t know yet! Hopefully this one!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
You won’t figure out your method or process on the first book so don’t waste your time trying. Just plow through it and get it done. Then you can refine and tweak your process. Trying to follow all the advice out there will drive you crazy. Take the time to pay attention to what works for you and keep doing it until you are finished.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what works for you!

Elusive by Sara Rosett and What You Wish For by Mark Edwards. Also, Help! My Facebook Ads Suck by Mal and Jill Cooper and Successful Self-Publishing by Joanna Penn.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finish the series I’ve begun.
Continue to hone my craft.

I write contemporary romantic fiction about women, their families and men they can’t live without. I try to create worlds I like to live in; quirky and bohemian, filled with artists and musicians striving to express themselves.

I grew up in London, surrounded by poets, film-makers and political activists. I have worked as an actress, musician, singer, and was a journalist for many years, contributing articles to the BBC, Channel 4, Euronews TV and writing for publications including The Guardian, The Times, and the FT. Born in the UK, I have lived in France and Belgium, and worked in Germany, Holland and Greece. I have travelled widely in Europe, Russia, the US and Africa.

I relishes the absurd – there’s nothing better than hearing someone crack up at a joke I wrote. In fact I think some of the funniest and most endearing characters I’ve written are in fact animals; dogs, cats, horses, a donkey and even a parrot.

I have written I Married a Pirate (published in paperback by Myrmidon), Living with Spies, In the Doghouse, and On Golden Sand.

As an avid reader in French and in English, I was thrilled to be asked to translate the new Angelique books.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I wrote On Golden Sand because I wanted to go to Cornwall but couldn’t because of travel restrictions. I built the plot around the idea that a long-lost husband could wash up on the beach, and put the donkey in because my friend Lena asked me to. (She loves donkeys.) I invented the artists for fun!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I write with a cat on my lap and one eye on the weather outside, because if the rain stops I’ll dash off to the airfield and fly a plane.

A sequel to In the Doghouse, because several people have asked for one. It might even turn into a series!

This is the first book I’ve had published but not the first one I’ve written. I used to work on cruise ships and travel the world, but now I’ve settled down on land in Pennsylvania and started to grow some roots. I teach at a local school and am working on my PhD.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Genesis” is the name of my book released in February. I’ve always loved “The Da Vinci Code,” “National Treasure,” “Tomb Raider,” “The Mummy” and even “Indiana Jones.” These books and movies inspired my love of history and I wanted to write an adventure of my own. All of the places mentioned in “Genesis” are real and can be visited.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’ll sit and stare at a blank page for some time before finding the courage to write. There’s something intimidating about a blank page, but I find once you get going it’s fairly easy to come up with what you want to say next.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on a prequel to “Genesis” named “Revelation.” I like the dichotomy of the names and order. Genesis is the first book of the bible and was released first, but is the last book while Revelation is the last book of the bible released second, but chronologically first.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep going even when people tell you no. I sent my book to over 30 publishers asking for someone to publish my book and guess what? Eventually, THEY DID.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Consistency beats luck every time.

What are you reading now?

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continuing to write and publish more books. They will not all be in the same world as “Genesis” as I want to explore and create different characters.

The Bible and Harry Potter are the ones I feel like I need the most. I’d obviously have to have the entire Harry Potter series…that counts as one, right? Lastly, I think it would have to be “Angels and Demons” by Dan Brown. I read that when I was a teenager and absolutely fell in love with it.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I love to create and it’s only recently that I’ve found my niche in writing. I’m currently working on a 6th story, though I’ve only just released my first novel this May.
My novels are short, between 50 and 90 pages but they are engaging reads, I’m told that keep readers entertained and guessing til the end.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first published book is called The Book of Miriam, though it is actually the second book I’ve ever written.
It began as an idea for what the world would eventually look at in the future from the perspective of a human captive in a world of machines, but inspired by the women in my life I created this character Miriam who embodies the struggles of women’s oppression over the centuries and with her own mind and will lives on her own terms in her search for true freedom.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know how unusual it is but most of my first draft writing happens on the subway. I buy grade school composition books and blow through countless pens. Once the first draft is all written out in pen, then I hit the computer for the second and then third and final draft.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am forever inspired by Cervantes’ Don Quixote. It taught me that writing has no boundaries and I’ve never seen anything like it since.
Other big inspirations: 1984 by Orwell. It’s just so true and stunning how prophetic and relevant the story gets with every passing year. It probably subconsciously helped bring about ‘Miriam’, a character people end up loving as much as I do.
Tolstoy’s writing also influence me to be descriptive, his attention to detail is unmatched and I wouldn’t try it myself but it certainly helped me see what is possible with a pen and a blank sheet of paper.
There are so many more, but let me just mention Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. Very much like 1984, as years go by, these themes grow more and more relevant.

What are you working on now?
Right now, it’s the third and believe final story of The Book of Miriam. There is also a story I’m working on a first draft of on the train that is based on my experiences working in several radio newsrooms.
I have other finished stories but one at a time.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Right now, it’s you, Awesome Gang.
I have used social media and word of mouth otherwise.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you don’t love it, don’t bother. It’s much too difficult to expect magic to flow from your pen if you don’t put the work in. You have to sit there and love that moment of creating and when you think you’re blocked, write on. I say all talent comes from God, I trust God and He never fails me.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep at it. I heard someone who won an Academy Award for writing say it in a post ceremonial interview. I couldn’t tell you his name. I never forgot it, though.

What are you reading now?
Moby Dick. It’s taking forever because

What’s next for you as a writer?
Success I hope. It has been my dream to be able to write stories people can’t wait to read. I’ve finally figured out how to write a beginning, middle and end without giving up and I hope I can do it for the rest of my life.

I Did Not Kill My Husband : But I Almost Killed Myself is my first published book. I have been writing patient advocate articles for a medical site for two years, but when my life took a turn for the worst, I knew I had to help people. So, I wrote a book!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is ‘I Did Not Kill My Husband : But I Almost Killed Myself’. I was inspired to write this book after my husband lost his decade long battle to the disease of alcoholism. He was the alcoholic and yet… I found myself standing next to the tracks of an oncoming train, seriously contemplating stepping in front of it. This disease is a silent kill. It infiltrates entire families and rips them apart – and people keep it secret. Not anymore. I’m here writing my story, the story I needed when I was on the front lines myself, for anyone going through this trauma as well.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I never write without my naked sphynx cat, Eli, on my lap. He’s a trained emotional support animal and he helps me make it through the hard chapters to write.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been influenced by Daniel Handler, or Lemony Snicket, author of Series of Unfortunate Events. I know, I know, he’s a young adult author… But I’ve read this series to my classes for the last 15 years and have absolutely enjoyed watching them learn to love reading. That’s where it all begins.

I’m currently writing the second book in my ‘Healing Trauma’ series titled ‘Dear Macular Degeneration, You Can’t Have My Joy’. Besides all of the trauma I had going on with my husband’s alcoholism, I’m losing my central vision and going blind. More trauma, more to heal, more to write about.

‘War Baby’ is my biography, just published on Amazon in Kindle and Paperback forms. I was inspired to write as I had so many tales to tell, usually after a few glasses of wine. Inspiration often comes at night before or even during sleeping; another sentence, paragraph or even chapter, will leap forward and I will have to get paper and pencil to record the moment.

I like all of the Dan Brown Books. I also enjoyed the early Joanne Harris adult books. Very inspirational were the Elena Ferrante series, fabulous. I like female writers and biographies of musicians and entertainers.

What are you working on now?
After finishing and publishing War Baby it’s time for a break from writing. When self publishing it’s not just the writing, it’s the layout and making sure that the correct text goes with the appropriate picture. That is the most difficult part for me.

My name is Colleen K. Buchanan, but I go by Lee. I recently published my Memoir “Don’t Forget To Remember…” detailing my experiences of being a black baby adopted into an all-white family and all-white environment, as well as other traumatic events throughout my life.

Recently, Dr. Bruce Perry, MD, PhD, and Oprah Winfrey published their book “What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, And Healing”.

It wasn’t until I was 48 years old that I found the courage and strength to stop living a life of lies and unhappiness. I decided to understand why I didn’t love myself, but more importantly, why I’d never been shown unconditional love. I went on an incredible journey of self-discovery and realized I am perfect, whole and complete. I am enough.
It’s an extremely challenging and difficult process to be with all of your Self, but whatever happened to you, doesn’t mean you’re unloveable. The love you seek, is within you and you alone.

I hope you can find the strength within you to be heard too. It’s never too late to fall in love with the incredible, powerful, beautiful person that you truly are!

My name is Stuart Knott, I am a PhD graduate from the United Kingdom. I grew up watching action, horror, and science-fiction movies and playing too many videogames and I have always had a love of writing.

So far, I have written six short stories (which have been collected into one volume) and a full-length novel. Like a lot of my stories and books, I worked on these over a period of about eighteen years while I was busy studying.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book is called “Nightshade: The Inception”. It’s something of a coming-of-age story about a troubled teenage boy who, after suffering a break-up, lashes out and end sup adopting a vigilante person in his increasingly-violent home town.

Like a lot of my stories, this is largely based on my time as a troubled, angst-ridden teenager as well as pulling from influences of the media (movies and comic books, mostly) that I have absorbed over my life.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nothing massively unusual. I sometimes jot down story ideas (especially from nightmares or dreams) in a notebook in my bedside cabinet, as well as in a comprehensive Word document. Consistency and continuity are a major emphasis for me so I have put together an Excel document listing all of my characters, locations, and stories so I can map out their relationships and progress.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Primarily Stephen King; I am a big King fan and enjoy his blending of the normal and mundane with the fantastical and horrific. I’ve also been influenced by the likes of Bret Easton Ellis and Douglas Adams, especially the way they combine humour (often dark humour) and portray characters through dialogue.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a novella based more around horror and featuring some younger characters uncovering an age-old conspiracy in their quiet home town.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do a lot of promotion through Twitter, mainly, using writer’s lifts and such, but I am also quite active on Instagram.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Mainly just stay focused. Even if you hit a wall or have a bad day, it’s better to write something than nothing as you could potentially salvage something that you’re not proud of. Don’t let the blank sheet intimidate you; just be productive and work towards your goal. Also, be prepared to network and plug your work as hard as possible.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I’ve had a lot of advice over the years but it mainly boils down to staying on track and making the best use of your time. You have to give yourself a break because writing can be hard; if you’re not feeling it, take a break but always try to write something down, even if it’s a character synopsis or ideas for a future chapter or book.

What are you reading now?
I just started reading “Insomnia” by Stephen King, which is one of my favourites of his.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a couple of other potential ideas for short stories at the back of my mind and even some longer books that I might develop depending on feedback from this book.
