Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have just finished and self-published my first book. I have always been creative, I love to entertain and after thirty years of being averagely successful in financial services I thought I would try and concentrate of what makes me happy.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first book is Order of Draic; we used to live in a beautiful house in a small English village and we had a well in the back garden. My daughter was an infant at the time and I started to write a children’s story about a dragon that lived in the well. Over time the idea bubbled away until it had formed into a more adult, rounded story which I am telling. I am mid-way through the next installment and I think that perhaps there is a third book to finish everything off nicely.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am pretty unextraordinary in most aspects and the same is true of my writing habits. In my “day job” I can spend an unbelievable amount of time sitting on hold, waiting to speak to financial institutions being told “your call is important to us, please hold” so I use this time to make notes and come up with ideas.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have tried to read a broad range of authors and genres, from James Herbert, Donna Tartt, Joseph Heller, John Irving, Irvine Welsh, to Edgar Rice Burroughs or Oscar Wilde. The book that impacted me the most was Diceman by George Cockcroft (Luke Rhinehart) – it made me laugh and cry and I carried a dice in my pocket for more than a decade afterwards.

What are you working on now?
I am still telling the story that I started in Order of Draic and the next installment is called “The Draco Grimoire” and hopefully will be out and available by July.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still learning this, so, ask me in a few years.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I am still a newbie, but I would say be careful who you pay to “help” you; the world is full of people that will take your money and deliver nothing of value in return. Be patient if you are going to publish, the the process of editing and reviewing takes way longer than it appears. Finally, take a breath and set your work free – creativity is personal, not everyone will like your work, but, if enough people see it you will find those that will. Dont take any negative comments personally – listen to them as they could be valid but always remember it is easier to destroy than create.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Dont crew wasps

What are you reading now?
Peanut Butter Memoirs by David Wilson. We had a chat via facebook and it compelled me to read his work.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finish this story off and get on with the next idea, which will be more sci-fi. Hopefully sell enough so that this will become my full time gig.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a young adult-fantasy-romance-writer based in Colorado. Alongside my husband and two sons, I enjoy many hobbies, including graphic design, skiing, camping, and baking with the kids.

I grew up in Long Island, New York, where I spent many years in a Special Ed classroom. Kids were so mean, always calling me stupid or illiterate. And, if it’s said to you enough times, you start to believe it. In my twenties, I got better at hiding my learning disabilities by being outgoing and funny. But adults can be crueler than kids. I once had a boss tell me I can’t get a raise until I learn to spell better, when he knew I had dyslexia.

Today I am a proud dyslexic. With the help of my family, I found the courage to embrace my learning disabilities, letting my imagination run free.

It took me over 13 years to write my first book… But I did it!!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I just published my first book, My Forever Midnight, in the Forever Midnight series.

In 2008, my husband took me to see the movie Twilight. Who knew, after walking out of that theater, my life would dramatically change. I was dying to know what happened next, so the following day, I faced my fear of reading and bought my first book, New Moon. A week later, I was done with the series and wanted to read more. So, I did. Years later, after reading hundreds of fantasy books, I wanted to write my own book. But the fear of being called stupid again kept me from writing. That is, until one day, I was watching the movie Tangled with my oldest, when my mind birthed the world of Dragovin. From there, this storyline grew, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So, with the support of my loving husband and two amazing boys, I found the courage and opened a new file in Word.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I know of… But I’ll keep trying to.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Twilight by Stephanie Meyers.

What are you working on now?
Aside from marketing my new novel, My Forever Midnight, and designing all of the book adverts, I’m now editing book 2.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I guess I would have to say Facebook has helped me. But since I’m a newbie, I’m still learning.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up on your dream.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Always accept yourself the way you are.” Which I got from a fortune cookie. I have it taped right next to my laptop.

What are you reading now?
Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum

What’s next for you as a writer?
Finish up book 2 so readers can continue their journey with Andie and Lark.

Memoir of a vampire from a born again teenager. Inspired by my youthful inquisition of the unseen realm.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a creator, lover of life and all it has to offer, and passionate about skateboarding, and my faith. I have written and published two books so far. My first book is more youth mystery and black magic. The second book is a children’s book and a mixture of my story and the art of youth skateboarding.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Cement Dreams: A Skaters Journal is my latest book. I was inspired by where I am in life right now, and how far I’ve grown as a teenager and in skateboarding. I wrote this book to draw more attention to the sport with the younger generation.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Ha, that it takes me forever! Not really. Most of the time I am on my board so my books come from thoughts I have that I jot down or stem from an idea I have and when I get time I sit down, write it out, and work with my mom to piece it all together.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Tony Hawk, Hawk: Occupation Skateboarder inspired me to put the idea for Cement Dreams: A Skaters Journal together.

What are you working on now?
Focusing on skateboarding and getting ready for competitions. I would like to put out a comic book eventually.

Don’t do it for a paycheck do it because you love to write and connect with other readers around the globe.

That normal is just a word that does a lot of damage.

I’m just going to continue to push my creativity and run towards the book rather than away from it.

I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY in 1976. I moved to South Carolina in 2012. I have been a born again Christian since 1997. I am CEO of Hope For The World Ministries a Christian nonprofit that I started in 2014. This is my first book that I have written but I have also written articles about poverty and hunger.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of the book is The Love Of God: How We Should Love. It is based on 1 Corinthians chapter 13. This book was written about how we should love our neighbor. With all the stuff going on in this world today this was the perfect time to write about this subject.

None that I am aware of.

David Jeremiah and Adrian Rogers.

What are you working on now?
I am currently in the process of writing my second book title Love One Anther.

My advice to writers is to take it step by step, not feeling pressured to write the entire book at once. Start with smaller pieces and gradually bring them together.

The best advice I’ve received, from my mother, is to never let anyone, not even myself, steal my joy. This advice has helped me navigate tough times and appreciate both the good and bad experiences in my life.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently engrossed in “The Two Lives of Sarah” by Katherine Adele West, the author of “Saving Ruby King.” The book is set in 1960s Memphis, portraying a young mother finding solace in a boarding house where family extends beyond blood ties, capturing the essence of being Black in that era.

What’s next for you as a writer?
The next step for me as a writer is to focus on promoting my current book and developing it into a training tool for creating courses on caring leadership. I believe the future of my leadership book lies in collaborating with real-life leaders to incorporate self-care and resilience, as their ability to lead impacts the realization of equity.

Some of my favorite authors include romance novelists like Danielle Steel and Barbara Cartland from my teenage years. Later on, I delved into horror, crime stories, and classics by authors such as Stephen King, John Grisham, Toni Morrison, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, bell hooks, and James Baldwin.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am Ray Sandhu. Every writer breathes in their imagination, so do I. A phenomenal storyteller who has chosen my imagination to turn my vision of what a story can be into reality through novels and books to represent my tremendous talent that most people, prized to read. I have always been fond of tales I used to hear in my childhood from my grandparents. When the tales used to conclude, my curiosity used to arise about what would happen next, and this led me to create the stories afterward.
Later, in my early teenage years, I never really was interested in any other study than English literature in which I used to stick to different lessons, always understood the central idea of the chapter, and answered all the questions without even giving that chapter another glance. With the teacher’s each sentence, I used to imagine each and every scene of that particular story.
After going through several jobs and professions, I realized that my actual talent was none other than writing stories. This happened when I lost my father when I was just twenty years old. My father’s demise has broken me emotionally and practically, that I was not able to see any hope of proceeding in my life further. Being the only son, I tried several workings in my life and got a little successful but was still not satisfied with the professions I was in, I did not get that joy spot in there.
This was the turning point of my life. The heartbroken me of my Father’s departure finally started getting a light of doing something extraordinary in my life through my writing. Then I wrote different short stories, further used to tell my friends and the majority of people interested. My friends used to freak out and really loved the way I told the stories, especially the horror ones. I finally chose it as a lifetime career and got ready to reach out this time to the whole world to entertain through my novels and stories.

This novel “Mystery & Horror: of Dead lady, Ghosts and The Witches in Mitilyn.” is one of the finest works of mine. In this book, you would witness the suspense in each chapter way more than the previous. All the characters in the story are fictional, not real. They are just for entertainment. So, enjoy this fabulous scary tale and experience one of the most suspenseful thrillers in history. Further, I am coming with a lot of brilliant novels and thrillers. My vision is to create history through novels, books, and movies in my lifetime. So, stay tuned. Let’s do this together.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The advice “Anything the mind of a man can conceive, it can achieve” is incredibly powerful and resonant. It speaks to the limitless potential of human imagination and determination. With belief in oneself and dedication to one’s goals, there are truly no limits to what can be accomplished. It’s a reminder to embrace creativity, dream big, and persevere in pursuit of our aspirations.

What are you reading now?
Currently, I’m indulging in the pages of my own creation, “Mystery and Horror of the Dead Lady, Ghosts, and the Witches in Mitilyn,” alongside the timeless adventures penned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring the iconic Sherlock Holmes.

What’s next for you as a writer?
As an author and writer, I am poised to ignite a revolution in the writing industry in the upcoming years. With a plethora of ideas and novels at my disposal, I am committed to delivering works that will stand the test of time and make history. My ultimate goal is to adapt my stories into captivating movies and even take on roles in some of them, bringing my narratives to life on the big screen in a truly immersive way.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
On a deserted island, I would bring along two non-fiction books and two fiction books. For fiction, I’d choose my own novels and Dennis Lehane’s “Shutter Island.” As for non-fiction, I’d opt for “Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay and “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Dr. Joseph Murphy.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write women’s fiction, with two full novels and seven novellas in my collection so far.

I used to write and record songs with my band (we’re on Spotify!), but now I concentrate on writing prose.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest, released on February 19, is called Lies and Love. My stories are all set in small towns and I wanted to use the Black Hills of South Dakota as a setting this time, so I plopped my main character down in a fictional tourist town there and watched her life unfold.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t plan out my books. I develop a main character, a setting, and usually the main character’s occupation and then things happen to her. I never know what’s going to occur, but my characters have found themselves in some unusual situations.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think I draw from all the authors I read, and I love discovering great writing styles.

What are you working on now?
The second novel I wrote (as quite a novice) didn’t turn out well, so I’ve decided to condense it into a novella. I still like the storyline, and now that I’m a much better writer, I believe I can make something out of it. That said, I’m itching to begin a new story as well.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve used many. I do like Goodreads, because I can usually find a few ARC readers by posting in a few of the groups there. As an unknown author, I try to take advantage of as many opportunities as I can find to promote my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write a book that you would like to read. Don’t try to please someone else before you please yourself. In other words, be genuine.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t overthink it.

What are you reading now?
I just finished reading Matthew Perry’s memoir.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll soon be ready to begin a new novella. I think this time my main character is going to buy and refurbish an old roadside motel.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’m partial to true crime and great true crime writers, so In Cold Blood for sure, probably Executioner’s Song. I might take Stephen King’s “On Writing” with me as well.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Canadian author, a world traveller and an enthusiastic golfer. I’ve acted in little theatre, and I have directed. I have found that writing is a lot like directing, except all my characters show up on time. And all know their lines. Although sometimes they do go off in a direction I hadn’t anticipated. Travelling to over 50 countries also helps with my writing. I have written two cozy mysteries that take place in countries I have visited. The biggest challenge to writing travel cozies is not to make them a travel log. And I have succeeded. My readers tell me that they see the country through my protagonist’s eyes. But it doesn’t take away from the mystery.
I have written four cozy mysteries. One thriller and a historical mystery. My Cozy mysteries are Wayward Shot, Death and Denial, The Trouble with Funerals, The Suspects, Murder Exit Stage Right. The thriller Moving is Murder was published in September of last year. My Historical mystery is The Séance Murders. The launch date is April.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Moving is Murder was published in September of last year. Writing cozy mysteries is great fun. And my readers enjoy them. My thriller, Moving is Murder, starts out like a cozy, then takes a 90-degree turn. My inspiration was what would happen if my protagonist’s instincts were off the mark and she trusted the wrong person.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I try to write every day for at least two hours. In the winter, I write in the morning after going to the gym. In the summer I write in the afternoon. I golf in the morning.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Yvonne Rediger, Linwood Barclay, MC Beaton, Richard Osman, Mick Herron.

What are you working on now?
The Blonde Widow

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Book clubs on Facebook and Twitter, now renamed X. And book newsletters like Awesome Gang. And guest blogs.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up. Keep writing. There are many books published every year. But none from your point of view.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The first draft is a story you’re telling yourself. Then edit, edit and then edit again.

What are you reading now?
Bad Actors by Mich Herron.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am going back to the cozy mystery genre with The Blonde Widow. But I have fallen in love with writing thrillers. So stay tuned.

I am a writer at heart. Writing has always been a part of me for as long as I can remember; and Romance Fiction tops the list of things I like to write about. I am passionate about crafting captivating stories that transport readers to a world of forbidden, spicy, feel-good romance, and paranormal adventures. I currently reside in Georgia, US, with my husband, where we enjoy communicating with people, traveling, and building our business together – just to mention a few.
I’ve currently written five books – two are published on Amazon and three more will be published soon. I am also planning a sequel to a standalone book in a series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Under the Lesser Light is the book I published a few days ago. It’s a paranormal-romance book that is very dear to my heart. One of the things that inspired me to write it was my love for this KDrama called My Love From The Stars.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I guess you could call writing while listening to authors on YouTube talk and vlog a habit. Also, I love writing while listening to music that just keeps me in the mood and vibe of the story/scene that I am working on. And sometimes, I change positions where I write, and I sometimes move from writing on my laptop to writing on my phone.

What authors, or books have influenced you?

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Handsome Devil, and it was inspired by one of my favorite tropes, marriage of convenience. In this instance, I wanted to flip the trope a little bit, and instead of having the hero come to the heroine with a proposal, I had the heroine propose to him. Oh, and they’re exes who hate each other. LOL.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t consider this unusual, but I need quiet when I’m writing. I can’t write in coffee shops or while watching TV, and definitely not while listening to music. I can, however, write while listening to rain, and I do that quite a bit. I go to rainymood.com and plug my earphones into the computer. That helps to block out other noises and distractions so I can focus on the writing.

What are you working on now?
Now that Handsome Devil is completed, I’m working on the next book in my Family Ties series, about a blended Hispanic and Black family in Atlanta. There are seven siblings in all, and I’m currently working on Bruno’s story, book 4. He’s a chef and restaurateur.

The other siblings I have already written about are Ethan, the billionaire real estate developer who had to make a tough decision. Marry his long-term girlfriend or lose her for good. Monica, which is about the youngest sister, a social media influencer who ends up working with her old college flame–who also happens to be engaged to another woman at the time they reconnect. Audra, a stay-at-home mother and her ex-athlete husband. The couple is on the verge of divorce, and readers get to see them reconnect through exercises they received from their marriage therapist.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method is using my newsletter. I share sneak peeks and background information about the characters before a book releases.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
For new authors, I suggest you manage your time wisely and don’t try to do everything. There’s so much information available now, compared to when I started indie publishing in 2011. It’s easy to get overwhelmed. Don’t stretch yourself too thin trying to do too much. Pick one or two social media platforms to concentrate on, and prioritize one or two tasks you absolutely must get done each day. Without a doubt, one of those should be writing. So do that and let all the administrative work and marketing be secondary.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the youngest of four children. My mother was a junior high school teacher and girl’s counselor. My father was a college professor who traditionally published many textbooks. We had an awesome family, not wealthy, but lots of books and lot of love. Books filled our home and when my dad began writing, which back then was on a typewriter, I always knew he’d found his bliss. His passion for books and writing greatly impacted me. Writing has been a part of my life since I was young. As a professional, I wrote mostly technical pieces. I decided to follow my dreams and start writing creatively in 2008. I’ve spent my entire life inventing character names and stories, and it’s been an absolute joy to watch them transform into real books. Thanks to Amazon, my paperbacks now sit on the shelf next to my dad’s and countless others.
I’ve written six novels and have self-published three of them. All are cozy mysteries: Murder After Hours, Twisted Fate, and Murder at the Christmas Wedding. The three are now available as an eBook box set.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Murder at the Christmas Wedding is the third in the Starry Hill Cozy Mystery series. The setting is a fictional town located east of the Cascade Range in Washington State. My mind always wanders back to the beautiful snowy mountains, where I lived for years, with their winding back roads, mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, and streams. The series begins with the protagonist going through a painful divorce. Along the journey, she meets Mr. Right and they fall in love. In this third book, they have plans to get married at Christmas time, but there’s a blizzard and one cook turns up dead. It was fun to draw from real-life experiences of driving in blizzard conditions. I added the celebrity chefs, as I’ve enjoyed watching some of the cooking shows on TV.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Growing up with three active siblings and two busy parents, there was always a constant buzz of activity around me. Like my father, I became skilled at blocking out the happy chaos and immersing myself in my projects. I can escape into my own little world, where outside noise fades away. My best friend calls it going down the rabbit hole.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My father was a tremendous influence, as he had such a love of writing and books. My mother did too, and she read a lot of mysteries. She and I stayed up late at night watching scary movies, and I just always loved mysteries. Sherlock Holmes with Nigel Bruce and Basil Rathbone were favorite after school shows. Then I read Edgar Allan Poe, Lewis Carroll, Agatha Christie, and other books, such as The Pink Dress by Anne Alexander. Old Yeller and Savage Sam by Fred Gipson. In high school, I became interested in science fiction and read Ray Bradbury, Aldous Huxley, and was introduced to Kurt Vonnegut with the Sirens of Titan. I went on to read many other books by Vonnegut.

What are you working on now?
I have two major projects I’m working on now: The fourth in the Starry Hill Cozy Mystery series, Murder at Misty Creek, and a Prayer Journal.
I’ve plotted Murder at Misty Creek and have drafted a synopsis and the first five chapters. I’m hoping to have it ready to launch by mid April.
The idea of the Prayer Journal came to me while using one that I bought. Although there are many things I enjoy about the prayer journal I bought, as a writer, I find the provided spaces too cramped. So, I’m designing an 8.5 x 11 for my use and perhaps others will find it useful too. I’m planning to launch that around Easter.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m grateful for the plethora of websites out there to help us indie authors promote our books. My first book just came out in July 2023, and I’ve found the following to be invaluable: Critique Circle, Scrivener, Atticus, Book Sirens, GoDaddy, Awesome Gang, Crave Books, All Author, Kindlepreneur, Prowritingaid, Grammarly, Autocrit, and Anne R Allen’s super fantastic blog.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
As a new author, I’m still learning the ropes in a rapidly changing field. Many have provided me with valuable information through books and the internet, for which I am grateful. One of the most helpful resources for planning a book launch came from Kindlepreneur’s Book Launch Strategy https://kindlepreneur.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Book-Launch-Strategy.pdf. This includes steps for building an ARC team, and getting editorial reviews. For building an ARC team, Book Sirens has been extremely helpful. For editorial reviews, I’ve been delighted with Readers’ Favorite.
You can spend a lot of money promoting your books, so I recommend setting a monthly budget and sticking to it. When investing in promotions, focus on one at a time and assess their success by examining sales generated and Amazon sales rank. I set up an excel spreadsheet to help keep track of promos and results.
It was more than a little scary to push the launch button on my first book last year. I found solace in my Prayer Journal and discovered St. Francis de Sales, the Patron Saint of Journalists and Writers. “Be at peace,” he said. (I’m trying.)
I also particularly like Heinlein’s Rules:
“1. You must write.
2. You must finish what you start.
3. You must refrain from rewriting (except to editorial demand).
4. You must put it on the market.
5. You must keep it on the market until sold.“

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Only a small number of readers leave reviews, so don’t worry about it. Just keep writing.

What are you reading now?
During the day, I’m reading Murder at Hawthorn Cottage by Betty Rowlands and it’s very good. She’s an excellent writer. I love reading interesting stories that are well written as they help me learn to be a better writer.
Every night, I read aloud to my husband, a tradition we started years ago, just like my parents. It’s an interesting book, One More Day Everywhere: Crossing 50 Borders on the Road to Global Understanding by Glen Heggstad. The author is an interesting person from California who’s traveled around the world via motorcycle. I read his other book, Two Wheels Through Terror: Diary of a South American Motorcycle Odyssey, which included his capture by Colombia’s rebel ELN army.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have the next three Starry Hill books plotted and planned. I hope to launch them this year.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hmmm. I once read Alex Sheshunoff’s delightful book, A Beginner’s Guide to Paradise: A True Story for Dreamers, Drifters, and Other Fugitives from the Ordinary, in which he tells of having a quarter-life crisis, quitting his job (which ironically was his own business) and packing up the 100 books he was most embarrassed not to have read and taking them to a small island in the Pacific to read. He got to pick 100 books. Which 3 or 4 would I take? Possibly Sheshunoff’s again. It was very fun.
I’d also need my Padre Pio’s Spiritual Direction for Every Day and of course The Bible. Then it would have to be either Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection.
But I’d really like a western too. How about A Million Ways to Die in the West by Seth MacFarlane? And a good history book…This is a scary question!! I hope I never have to face it for real. Honestly, if the tsunami alarm went off and I had to grab a book, I think I’d be under water still trying to decide.
I don’t think I’m doing this right. Do I get extra credit for listing more than 4 books?

Trista Woojin writes dark, sometimes provocative (and occasionally bizarre, stream-of-consciousness-style) poetry (yes, most of her works do rhyme) about cracked, fragmented, broken and twisted worlds, fictional killers, imaginary cannibalistic dinner parties, broken dreams, lullabies of the cosmos, sapient stars becoming black holes, drifting through fog, apocalyptic ponderings, abandoned places, questions that cannot be answered, fantasy creatures and much more. She currently resides in Texas, is fueled by copious amounts of coffee and owns a tuxedo cat named Twinkie. Though she started writing poetry decades ago, while she was in high-school, “Aeternitas” is her first published collection (she just never bothered to consider publication in the past) and “Cacaphony” is its indirect successor.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My newest collection is called Cacophony. I’m not really inspired by anything but random ideas that pop into my head, like “I wonder what a star would think about before it goes supernova and starts destroying worlds.”

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yeah, I suppose I do: I cannot write during the day, or without coffee.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I would say Lovecraft and TS Eliot are my two favorite poets, if nothing else.

Interview With Author James Miller

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a poet who lives in the small state of Delaware. I received my MFA in poetry from NYU. I have taught creative writing at the college level. My poems have been published widely both at home in the States and abroad. My first book of poetry, Shell Songs, was published in 2018. My second book, Walkways, has just been published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Walkways is the title of my recent book. It came about simply because I need to write poetry. However, as I wrote the book, I grew spiritually and much of the book reveals this awakening within my conscious. Walkways is similar to my second book in that it explores the infinite possibilities of nature and the beauty which can be found in nature. However, the poems in this book are built upon the idea that we were created and nourished by a loving God. Therefore, death is not the final destination of these poems. They dare to dream of something more.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often write by hand in the dark. In this case, the poems in my notebook will often look sort of goofy when I finally turn the lights on. But by that point, I have already memorized the poems, so it is easy to put them back together.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite poets of all time are John Keats and William Wordsworth. I am attracted to the Romantic era and draw inspiration from it. Their attention to nature and beauty are what I find most compelling. They also focus on the individual as he or she faces the paradox of death and eternity. That being said, I am also very fond of Yeats and have a fond admiration for Irish poetry. I love the musicality of Irish poets, and I try to make sure my writing is full of music. I identify myself as a lyric poet.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I am working on my third book. So far, I haven’t noticed that much of a break from Walkways, which was just published. But that being said, it takes me four or five years to write a book of poetry. So, I imagine things will change over the course of that time. I am excited for it. I hope I continue to grow as a poet.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I focus a lot on my website which is jamesmillerarts.com. I also write music, and people can listen to my music on the website. There are also sample poems and links to my two books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is mainly that I hope young poets love writing and that they love their poetry. They should feel proud of what they have accomplished. I think that they will find that the need to write becomes as necessary as food and air.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
In graduate school, I studied under Philip Levine. He wrote in meter, and he encouraged us to master form before we could pretend to have mastered free verse. I took his advice, and I still write much of my poetry in meter. It has become a key ingredient to my poetry. I do also write in free verse. I go back and forth.

What are you reading now?
Because of the current difficulties in my life, I have tried to find spiritual strength by reading theology. In this case, I often read Christian writings. Right now, I am reading Michele Cushatt’s Relentless. The book is about a lot of things, but it is mainly about how she has managed to maintain her Christian faith after enduring the trauma of three caner diagnoses and irreparable damage to her body. It is an inspiring book.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Well, I am a little drained from my second book, Walkways. I am finding comfort now in my music and playing out. I still am writing poetry, but I am a bit burnt out. I will probably get back into gear in a month or so. Sometimes the brain just needs time to rejuvenate.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Well, this is a touch question. For one, I would take the collected works of Shakespeare. I would also take the collected works of John Keats and William Wordsworth. I would also take the collected works of Pablo Neruda. It would also be important for me to have a Bible too.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Finlay Beach and I love combining stories about freedom and faith with adventures. I’ve worked as a lifeguard, an EMT, and a doctor, which makes my stories relatable. I’ve written a book series called “Managed Paranoia” and other novels, including “The Seventh Pawn” and a short story, “Rhodium Tycoon.” Altogether, I’ve published several books and stories that explore big questions about life, technology, and what it means to be free.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “The Seventh Pawn.” It was inspired by my fascination with the resilience of the human spirit. The story weaves together themes of freedom, faith, and the pursuit of meaning.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m part of Camano Writers. We all have unusual writing habits. It’s probably kind of a writers thing. Personally, I find writing the one thing I don’t need to discipline myself to do. I have to schedule; work, eating, showers, but writing is my muse… probably my therapy as well.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Like most writers, I read a ton. If I read a book more than once, that says something about that book and what influences me. There is an unwritten rule that all Christians who are authors must include the Bible. All 66 books that is, actually I love the Apocrypha too. Political Sci-fi, “1984” is a classic for good reason. I used to read quite a bit of dystopian, but it’s not as enjoyable now that we are living it. David Gregory and C.S. Lewis are on my list of authors, but I also read secular stuff all the time… “Snow Crush” was fun and I loved “The Hunger Game” series. I’m always looking for books which strive for freedom and liberty for all. That’s why I write in a hopeful vain, I tend to write what I want to read. Suggestions?

What are you working on now?
As I write this “The Seventh Pawn” is done, but not published. It is the first novel I’ve written that my wife truly dislikes. I love it! We will see what readers think. Please rate and review. I’m moving on to completing “Managed Paranoia – Book Three.” It is the final book in the series and I have promised fans a satisfying ending.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesome Gang!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I meet writers and writer-want-to-be’s all the time. I tell them to push through their doubts. We all have them, so keep writing and enjoy the process.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You are unique, just like everybody else.

What are you reading now?
I’m getting into Westerns again. The old timers like Zane Grey and Louis L’amour are standards, but the newer stuff about the Old West is holding my interest. They are not influencing my writing yet, but who knows.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Readers have offered directions they would like me to go, and we are of one accord. The “Managed” fictional universe has become my brand. You can find me there.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written far too many books to count. Many of them sit silent and ignored in 3 tall filing cabinets. I’ve published a 2-book Memoir, a 4-Book Fantasy series, a disturbing Horror novella, many Short Stories, Poetry, etc. The list is endless. Not everything I’ve written has earned the right to be published. That’s a tidbit of wisdom every author should know and accept.

Regarding talking about myself, that’s difficult for me to do…

I’m a happy and content wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, a daughter, and a friend. My immediate world is an 8×8 office with a desk, a computer, and far to many craft items which I use when I’m working out a plot or simply need a break. I enjoy painting, beading, sewing, working with leather, gardening, working with wood, and creating things with cement. I enjoy helping other authors achieve their dreams. I’m a child-abuse advocate.

However, I am a writer first and and foremost.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Sagaman Kessler 4-Book Fantasy Series, based on a single storyline. It was inspired buy a previous version of a children’s book I wrote whose narrator is ‘The Keeper of the Word’ and ‘Guardian of the White Forest’ — he is a turtle. I’m unsure how or when the switch was made, but obviously at some point Sagaman Kessler was born as a high fantasy novel.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I have writing habits! I like to write by candlelight and by hand with a ballpoint pen in a notebook. I’ve experienced writer’s cramp that worked its way clear up into my shoulder. In those early days, my writing was horrid, unreadable, and no publisher would touch it — but I was learning my craft at the time which made it all worth while. Today I use a keyboard and although the words come into my mind faster than I can type them out, I still burn a candle to stay grateful by remembering that it all began as a dream when I was only 3 years old.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
In order of preference, Gibran, Twain, Dickens, Tolkien, Homer, Bronte, Tolstoy, Austen.

Fairytales written by the Brothers Grimm were the reason I write-their words were the seeds which fertilized the dream.

All the rest I’ve mentioned are those who kept the dream alive.

What are you working on now?
I enjoy writing in different genres. I’m currently working on two books, the original children’s book mentioned above, and a psychological thriller.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The Book Khaleesi.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors is to read the books written by those who created sharp corners and wild curves on the narrow and less-travelled path of Literary Excellence. Read the Masters’ works and then read them again. And again. Discover what they did to change the landscape of creative writing. They all have one thing in common which can easily be applied to any genre: they broke the rules.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard came from my Grandfather. I read a poem I’d written to him when I was seven or eight years old. He cried when I finished reading it. He pulled me onto his lap and he made me promise to never stop writing. I took his advice and here I am.

What are you reading now?
The Chronicles of Aveline by Ken Fry.

What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next? I don’t think it will be any different that what it is now. I’m a writer. I will continue writing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
If I was stranded on a desert island I would bring 4 of the biggest, thickest, 100k-pages-per-notebook available on planet earth. If I’m not permitted to bring ink, I will improvise and find a way to fill every single empty space between the covers of those notebooks with the sound of my words. Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

I have 4 Science fiction books published, one near to publishing, and two non-fiction works published. I have two more non-fiction works in development, and am considering beginning another.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is titled ‘Cicada Serenade’ and is due out in May 2024. It is book #5 in my Science Fiction series.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I will confess in a public forum.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Largely, the classic golden age writers.

What are you working on now?
Right now, my primary focus is ‘Cicada Serenade’

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes. Don’t. There are too many authors competing for too few readers.
Okay, perhaps I don’t really mean that. But if you must, then be persistent.
Write regularly, seek feedback, and stay persistent—believing in yourself and your unique voice as a writer is key to success.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up.

What are you reading now?
The Reapers, by M.J. Edington

What’s next for you as a writer?
Probably non-fiction. I have four, now almost five fiction works. Time for something more serious.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Anything by Doc Smith, Burroughs, Clarke, Heinlein, Asimov, or Del Rey.
