Interview With Author Scarlete Michele
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a brand new author, full of inspiration and ready to share my favorite things, my worst moments, my loss and heartbreak, and my journey to get to know the real me, the powerhouse of creative flow and a voice that speaks to the forgotten.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Phoenix in December is my first book.
It was inspired by my experience as a little girl abandoned by both her parents and sent to live with her grandparents. Their love held me and kept me grounded until I lost them and went through a roller coaste of relationships, Motherhood, Marriage and divorce and marriage again, and raising a child with disabilities , all this taught me integrity, self respect and independent strength.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to write alone, with a cup of coffee or tea, my favorite pen, and my journal my husband bought me for Christmas. My favorite music softly playing in the background. I lean back, close my eyes and take a deep breath and if it flows well, then I write until I can’t, if I don’t feel the flow, I take a break to enjoy family and friends or going to live music shows! This always brings fresh inspiration.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Arthur Murray, Emily Dickinson, Ted Dekar, Mark Lanegan, Robin Sharma, Wendy De LaRosa.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a new project to follow up the story about Phoenix, with the soon to be Phoenix Rising, twice the poems, twice the content, and a somewhat Clinically cynical new view to life.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m new at this so Facebook has been my base of followers, I have tried Instagram and YouTube with very little success. I am shopping for a great way to get my work in people’s hands.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Research the effort, and time. And knowledge and financial aspects. Plan your book outlines, plan your ARC team. Have a pre-launch strategy, writing strategy and launch and post launch strategies in place before beginning any of this process, know your audience.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t write about what you think people want to read, unless you are a mind reader. Write about what speaks to you and you will be surprised who else you speak to without even realizing it.
What are you reading now?
Plague of poems by Mark Lanegan, he sadly was a great musician and lyricist, his voice was raw with a straight forward, no bullshit position. He will be sadly missed.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am working on my second project in a 3 part series, I have somewhat of a memoir planned for my younger years and growing up in church and I may write a fan devotion book, by fans for fans inspired by our favorite bands.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Empowered empath, 5am Club, Plague poems, Absolute Surrender
